With “budget” knives as good as those, it’s all about personal preference. Thanks for the nice video.
Very true!
I added the titanium pocket clip to my Altus after polishing the wood scales and it made a huge difference in ergos. The Pyrite is really nice and it would be a tough call to say which I like best. I carry both regularly and enjoy them both very much. The Pyrite is a great deal for the money.
Got mine from WMK for 53 bucks in blue topo scales.
Can’t go wrong either way. Nice set up on the Altus 👍
That altus is a performer. At my corrugated box job, the altus replaced my para 3 In maxament as my go to/ regular carried hard use knife. It sheds cardboard effortlessly and one handed action it great.
I have both of these. Love them both equally even though they are different. These two are tied for my favorite knives in my collection.
Right on
Where did you get the altus scales ?
Custom made. It isn’t for sale anywhere. 👍
@@jd4edc so, you made them?
@@Errcyco haven’t learned yet, I need a couple machines to help me. I got JD to make these for my Altus.

This is a good one. I have and am surprised how great this altus.is at work with all the corrugated, and I want the pyrite, love cjrb, and my favorite knife EVER is made by them, the Ria.
Ria is a awesome smaller knife to carry. 👍
He's not wrong.
Though the solid alloy scale pyrite blows the Altus out of the water.
Where did you get the scales?
I had them made custom. instagram.com/jdizzle__designs?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==
You got that Altus looking good! Love the battle.
Thanks brother 👊
Another thoughtful battle 😎
After carrying large hand friendly knives all week these both felt so small the day I recorded this lol. 👊
I haven't experienced the Altus, but I have the pyrite, and I am more than pleased. Great knife
It is awesome 👍
I don’t have an Altus but I do have a pyrite prototype .. it was my first button lock and I really did it ! Just wish it was a smidge larger.
I wouldn’t complain if they made it a touch larger 👍
Love it, love to see it
🙌
I have three pyrites and their detents vary slightly among them, but they're all what I'd consider on the lighter side... they can all be "thrown" open out of the handle using inertia. One of them actually came super stiff, kind of unusable, but that was something wrong with it where the button was grabbing and sticking on the hole in the scale. Once I fixed that, it was relatively light as well.
That said, I find the action to somehow actially be super snappy with thumb and finger flicks. The action's so smooth and it easily pops and glides into lock. Like, the blade travels lightning fast into lock. I find the action to be exceptional. It's really weird how good it is, even without much stiffness in the detent.
Well, I guess I'm just trying to say that I don't find the action sluggish the way you do. Maybe your detent is a super dud.
I don’t think k it is sluggish action, it just so happens that out of the two examples that were in front of me the Altus had the better detent but that didn’t make the Pyrite bad, just not as snappy.
I wouldn’t say I’m unhappy with the detent on that pyrite though. Just an observation when directly comparing the two 👍
Man... i want a pyrite sooooooo bad.
👍
I think it was 44 bucks for the pie right but man I want the scales for that Altice dude. Anyways if the power rate is anything like the ultimate I’ll be OK with it. Kind of shying away against an expensive knives
The budget realm has been kind of boring with a few gem exceptions. Kizer just drop different versions of existing knives, Civivi, Kubey and QSP have really been far and few in between. The drop bear, escort, penguin plus, and pie have been bright spots.
I read another reviewer stating that no matter what he tried he couldn't get rid of the burr on AR-RPM9.
I’ll be curious when I’m ready to sharpen this one then 👍
It’s essentially powdered 8cr13MoV
@@Errcyco 9cr18MoV not 8CR knifebasics.com/detailed-ar-rpm9-steel-review/ from the articles I am reading. A nice upgrade IMO
Should of mentioned the finger choil on the CJRB.
Cause that’s a sharpening choil 😂 I might be able to get my pinky in that thing 🤣
@@jd4edc It's a difference between the 2 and worth a mention.
@@paulg.5997 🤷🏻♂️
The composition of Nitro V is not that impressive. I suspect the steel on the Pyrite is just as good, if not better.
Nitro V I’d bet similar to 14c. It is tougher but doesn’t hold its edge s as long.
@@jd4edc I need to a link to steel composition for reference.
Lucky I’m only deaf in my right ear huh.. wtf though.. how’d you even do that this day and age??
Seriously? Dam bro sorry to hear that.
@@jd4edc thanks! What I was saying though is your video is in mono, not stereo
@@Errcyco dang thought I fixed that but my editing software did update again so I’ll have to go back and check it. Didn’t even notice cause I’m listening through the phone speakers and not headphones so I didn’t notice
I thought my right AirPod died 😂
Pyrite wins in my book
It really is a solid knife 👍
Where did you get those scales?
I had them custom made. Cost more than the knife.
