That was an amazing experience. Thank you. I get it. I see how sensitive and intune you must be to play tasteful and to help lift the worship experience.
William , I hope you know how much the Lord has gifted you. Not only that bro , but there are people out there that need something in there life . Music is so powerful. Not to get too mushy , 30 years ago I met some great conga players that took me under there wing and gave me there time as you do for many.. your a true servant . May you have many more years of great fun with your gift. Respectfully, Richard
Thank you! A lot of it is a combination of the mic’ing, effect/reverb with tuning to the song, and tone technique. The congas are great but even a modest conga set with good technique and production can achieve a similar sound. These are Isla congas. They are no longer in business to my knowledge but a few are out there on eBay. Gon bops makes some great similar sounding drums though. As for technique; when I play an “open” note on music like this I press slightly in the head (not to much since you still want it to resonate) and keep my fingers together to keep a thicker warmer sound as opposed to just bouncing with fingers spread. If you just hit the drum and fingers are too far apart then you will have a thinner tinnier sound of the skin. On entry level congas tuning is the key and dampening products like moon gels (place one on the outer part of the skin) really help to take away some of those unwanted overtones.
