are they planning to do more international releases? I can only listen to two of their albums in Europe and even on japanese websites like ototoy where I could buy digital copies of their music there are only limited albums, but when I look after physical CDs on japanese shops I see they have more albums and even a live DVD I'd really like to buy, but just not in a physical format. The albums on their website linked to iTunes aren't either available in Europe :(
This is nice.
I've always wanted to learn how to play shamisen since i was a kid. Obviously impossible from Spain. I am trying at least to learn japanese properly, that's a start. 2 years now and still a newbie.
Tokio cool
very very beautiful, please never stop playing the shamisen.
So you're telling me the Japanese have been shredding for like 400 years?
Try 1000
Way before the Bible/thora/islam was even born.
lmao no quick search tells that the shamisen comes from the 1600s, japan's history is fairly recent but that's what makes it impressive
@@Gorabora When we played this in caves we called it Rock. Our vocabulary was limited in the Stone Age. ;-)
well... according to google, the first guitar was made in the 15th century and the shamisen was made in the 16th century.
I believe there were bards, but shredding? im hella sure there are!
When you're obsessed with metal but your parents are traditional

Totally perfect combo
I can't believe that they don't have frets on their instruments.
The fact that such a wide range of sound cane come from only three strings each is insane and a true testament to the skill of the players.

Epic anime ost
"You need electric guitars for real metal!" - _picks up Shamisen_ "Hold my Sake."
Look up miracle of sound seikero shadows die twice song. He does a literal guitar solo on that this thing and it's great.
Okay this one made me snicker so points for you.
I love to learn how play shamisen
How is this metal? I swear, people will call everything that's good "rock" or "metal".
@@kiddhkane Seriously, this is closer to bluegrass than metal.
I love how whenever they play together, they aren't _quite_ in tune with eachother. That may sound grating in western music because we're fixed into equal temprament, but it sounds right at home here. Absolutely gorgeous!
Isn't that basically counterpoint ?
@@sach1485 Not really? They're mostly playing in unison, the (relatively) same pitches and rhythms. It's just a quirk of microtonal string instruments honestly, but western musicians are trained to minimize it as much as possible (I'm a violinist). Eastern styles like the microtonal sound more, so they're more relaxed with it.
Shamisen goes out of tune very quickly. In theatre performances the helper of the artist changes the instrument in the lulls.
Counterpoint is note against note.
I don't hear they would be out of tune at the start (this instruments tune out quickly) also this type of music is about rhythm not really about perfection in itself which western music needs. Like hearing differently tuned violins would be maddening.
East Asian instruments are so criminally underrated. It’s like the best parts of electric guitar and the best parts of banjo. Edit: found out recently that shamisen are traditionally covered in the skins of cats or dogs. Not epic
I agree, but with some Guitars, you don't know which one is Muted
The shamisen is sometimes called the "Japanese banjo"
How is it underrated? Japanese instruments are still very popular in Japan, as you can see in this video and the Japanese citizens are very proud and appreciative of their music and traditional music. Maybe not as much in other countries, but every country appreciates their own traditional musical instruments and music.
Not so much any type of instrument but if the person perfoming has music inside them, they could rock out playing spoons. It is the person where the music comes from through whatever instrument they happen to pick up to play.
@@JMarieCAlove lol considering probably every human being alive right now knows what a guitar is, I’d say a shamisen is pretty underrated 😂. Edit: also, find me someone who unironically listens to Gregorian chant or opera. Or sings broadside ballads.

@Name oh shit China and Japan hate each other though
China is the same.
Türkler her yerde 😂😂
This is rock n roll, bluegrass and delta blues all in one and they're shredding it like metal. Brilliant.
Ok I’ll admit it, as a born and raised Black American, I freaking love the sound of the shamisen. It’s like bad ass and elegant at the same time ✨
Agreed!
“Those Snow White Notes” will probably lead to a surge of interest in the instrument not only in Japan but all over the world. It’s great to see more attention drawn to classical arts like this.
I actually was introduced to the shamisen through Kubo and the Two Strings, but Those Snow White Notes definitely increased my interest. It has such a unique sound.
This anime even reached me in central Europe, where we have our own unique music history and culture, yet I find shamisen one of the best sounding so called historical instruments

Hearing the evolution of traditional instruments playing to a beat that is almost modern style is fascinating especially the shamisen since it is three stringed

Best part about this is how they both crack smiles at times. That's how you know they love what they do

Sameee
Same, fell in love with the Shamisen immediately after hearing him playing.
I never heard such a sound. It's so strong and bold. Felt like a statement! And the sync was too good. Fireworks!!
For everyone who compares this to guitar....pleas keep in mind that like violins and other symphonic stringed instruments, the shamisen has no frets for reference...it's up to you to get your fingers in the correct positions!!!....These ladies seem to be accomplishing that quite well!!!!...
Just like harmonica we cant see the notes but once we mastered it we can feel the note that what these ladies accomplished
A close Western cousin would be the African Banjo....we had a Banjo player in a band that I was in who was of Sino-Korean Ancestry and she.. played this for us by de-tuning and removing two strings for us once on her birthday...it was awesome....
Hell yeah they got a grip on their instruments for sure
well only beginner guitar players count the frets they have to grip and i know that fretless instrument beginners also mark the positions down. it does matter where you grip between the guitar frets as well, as the sound might deterioriate if you dont grip near the steel bound. the fretless and frets dont determine the difficulty to learn the instrument, but the freedom the instrument gives you. an overwhelming freedom where you can pick from a huge spectrum of sounds within a few centimeter demands a lot of talent.thats just my take on this discussion.
Mountain Banjo doesn't have frets either. I've made 3 of them so far. But there's double the range of a regular 5 string banjo. (Most commercially made banjos only have 4 strings, but there's also a bass string with it's own seperate peg on folk style banjos.)
When you find out that you're 1% Japanese
Yes, finally facts.

More like when you're Japanese and find out you're 1% Hendrix
