    I think the most hated nydus worm change was making it 100% untargetable until it finished construction. It completely removed any and all interaction with the strategy, as you could no longer deny it, and zerg players would just load high energy queens into the worm and transfuse right away.

      Isn't that backwards. It was always completely invincible, but it was underused at that point. They THEN made it killable, but the armor was huge and there wasnt any cooldown. They further nerfed it to reduce the armor and tweak the unload speed.

      Man did your comment make me feel old! During WoL and HoTS, the nydus worm had no special protection, but in LoTV it was changed to being invincible until it emerged, which led to a very unhealthy meta where you would just throw down a worm in an area where your opponent didn't have significant forces, and then they had to either commit a lot of resources to kill it right away, or allow the worm to go up uncontested; either way this gave zerg an opening, so it was a very low risk very high reward strategy.
      After that it got the armour instead, which has been toned down due to it still being stupidly strong, until we reached the current state.

    oh my god, 4 hellbats in a single transport. that was genuinely probably the worst period of balance in the game. it was essentially impossible for a T to NOT get at least a dozen worker kills before being cleaned up.

    Personally I've always thought medivac boost was the worst change they've ever made in SC2, partly because iirc it was one of the factors that made them give mutalisks their insane health regen, which kicked off its own domino effect of balance disasters, but also because it's too much of a get out of jail free card. It's still mind boggling to me that it doesn't at least have an energy cost.

      I don't think the Medivac should be able to heal non-Terran units and it should also have a cooldown to stop infantry being effectively immortal.

    The Nydus Worm change in LOTV is basically an example of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

    The really stupid fast BC meta that became common in LotV TvZ. If you handle it well as Zerg, you get to stay in the game without punishing Terran because the BC just jumps away. If you don't handle it well as Zerg, you lose the game. It single-handledly made me stop playing regularly.

    3 MOST HATED THINGS in SC2:
    1)photon cannons
    2)fact that high templar has some attack and won't move to his death, while infestors and vipers don't and will die if you a+move your army
    3)no larva's amount scaling when upgrading hive

      Its actually telling how braindead a lot of protoss players are that blizzadd felt the need to add an auto attack for HTs just so that people wouldnt a move them to death

      Think its fair tbh. Ht is squishy+slow. I am prty sure there arent any caster units that are slower than it. Also it didn’t have any factors that directly helped its survivability (ghost cloak, infestor burrow, viper flys, sentry have force sheild, etc)

      4) Widow Mine. I had 50 3-3 Mutas and two mines took out 21 of them instantly. They also make a light lunch of Void Rays. It's a joke and totally OP.
      5) Every team match at Gold (and sometimes Plat) and below right now on EU server is just defaulting to mass air. It's a repetitive arms race to see who gets there first and the only other outcome is a crappy T1 rush to try and stop mass air from happening. There is no need or point in scouting anymore.
      I think if every match is having a very similar outcome then there are probably issues with some of the design choices. In the history of SCII it just feels like a build or strat gets too popular, Blizzard say lolnope and patch it, another build gets too popular, Blizzard say lolnope again and make some more arbitrary balance tweaks that don't really help, and so it goes on. Again, there are probably design issues with the game if all this constant tweaking is necessary - for example did anyone even test the Archon Toilet before shipping the game? Did they honestly consider that a good idea?
      We're now on perpetual mass air and there's no sign of Blizzard intervening this time. Maybe the game's just too old and they're not bothered anymore.

      @@halfbakedproductions7887 jeez i'm really glad that i don't have to experience that myself. I left ladder several years ago as soon as i become diamond and turned to co-op and custom campaigns. At this point, i guess the game is pretty much dead

    back in the early days with 6 workers to start with, 6pool was so strong, that you could even occassionally win 4v4 alone if not scouted

    Void ray queen walk meta. God I hated that meta. Zerg spots it and it's either a guaranteed skytoss late game OR an all-in moment where *flips coin* hopefully you are better at managing the engagement than the toss is. On the ladder of course, that is a guaranteed 50-50 flip due to how matchmaking works.

    From an outsiders point of view, has Terran ever been an overwhelming force in the meta or has the race always been near balanced? Reapers and release Hellbats seem to have lasted for shorter periods compared to Broodlord Infestor or Swarmhosts or other atrocious metas.

      Absolutely. They had a 50% win rate for a while. As in, 50% of all wins in a game with 3 races. They've absolutely been dominant.
      But they don't get much cheese. Comes from being defensive and turtley in nature. Doesn't mean they don't win.

      Terran is not balanced IMO. Flying buildings, tanks and missile turrets that can shoot halfway across the map, a crappy little mine that can take out 20 3-3 Mutas in one hit, an add-on that lets every building double its production of basic units, radar scan anywhere on the map, a machine that can grab extra minerals. Able to win late game with nothing but speed-boosted infantry kept alive forever by a helicopter. Even the SCV is tougher than the Probe and Drone.
      If you were writing a design document for a game and had that in it, people would go what the f--k and make you change it because it's so ridiculous. Yet Blizzard went ahead anyway. Playing against Terran is like playing Civ i.e. some dude waving a pointed stick can take out your spy satellite.

    I just watched a lot of your videos and love the content. One thing though: You show patch notes in pretty mich every video but they disappear so damn fast, that it is impossible to read even half if them. Often I wasn't even fast enough to just pause in time and had to rewind.
    Please increase the duration of these showing up, maybe make them smaller, so other stuff can already happen besides them.
    I personally love to read patch notes and see what things used to be possible and how they were changed. Also gives me a lot of nostalgia, since I recently returned to SC2 after having most my playtime in WoL. Things were sooo different back then.

      As a 4900 MMR Terran player what the fuck is the problem with those 2 units? Those units have no balancing issues right now unless you're a really low player and don't understand how to counter them. I can see that.

    Miss me with the battlecruiser warping into your base though.
    Could do some classic cheeses too. 6pool, cloak banshee rush, proxy DT, bunker rush, proxy 2rax... a lot of these aren't as all in in lotv of course but they tore up the ladder especially in lower leagues.

      I have actually found a few people who use the BC properly by warping to escape and not to arrive. That's what you're supposed to do (and probably what Blizzard intended for the most part) but lots of lower ranked players don't tend to realise that.

    One of the dumber changes they ever made was the 2 attack Marauder - basically that armor was deducted from their attacks 2 times and they lost their higher upgrade scaling (+1 per upgrade vs +1/+2 to armored). In practice that meant it was ever so easier to trade with ground bio army than before, with things like guardian shield or at the time 5 base armor ultralisks. That might sound like a good change to people that only care about variety, as the bio is of course used way too often, but the replacement strategies were extremely poor, gimmicky and sometimes cheesy.
    Really shows how some balance ( as in balance of strategies/compositions, not just races ) problems are fundamental in the game, and would require extensive reworks to be fixed. With Blizzard having no big releases left for Starcraft, it's definitely better to embrace those flaws, and attempt to fix them very slowly and carefully.

    they need to change the balance team in sc2, too many pro zergs are in charge there and the game balance is suffering, the patch was supposed to save sc2 not destroy it, RIP protoss players wont play till you make it fair

      Buying into the zerg cabal theory then? And you're just going to discount that protoss pros skill level overall is just very low? Besides her0 (and he's below god tier like Serral and Maru), there's no one else. Maxpax is very strong, but still very young and inexperienced and doesn't attend offline events. After them, it's already Neeb and Showtime in the rankings, both pretty much stagnant in skill level already.
      It's very telling that the Protoss of Reynor is rated higher than Harstem.
      I'm not a zerg, just a casual Terran. But I just hate it (in any game) where people complain about balance while discounting the skills of the players. Like if there's a Zerg version of Neeb and Showtime, will you seriously expect them to consistently win? If there's a Protoss counterpart of Serral or Maru, I'd expect him to dominate.
      Simple as that.
      Note that if you hit zerg too much to bring down Serral, every other zerg suffers, especially ladder play.

    2:32 "Charge now deals 30 damage on hit" umm excuse me? Even if that patch didnt last long, how was that even considered for balancing reasons at one point? Basically every charge would do a one-time 4x (almost) the zealot's damage!

      at the time the movement speed buff of charge was worse than now I think, I remember when they took it away they gave something else to compensate (maybe it was attackspeed instead)

      @@yutuvefan4ever why would you not count "double-strike"? The zealot does 8*2 damage per attack, so saying it does 8 is just not true

    Pretty much every match at Plat or below is one of the following:
    1) Mass air of some kind
    2) A shitty T1 all-in to stop mass air from happening
    3) Cannon rush (if you're not paying attention)
    That's all. This is boring and it just doesn't feel like Blizzard are bothered anymore. If every game has the same outcome then there's clearly a bad design choice somewhere.
    You shouldn't be saying that builds like mass Muta are dead, because they are absolutely not. I see most of these all the time. Nydus and Mass Muta are still very much in vogue.

    These videos are a perfect example of just how much better brood war is.
    The number of AWFUL metas and even worse balance changes in SC2 is just absurd especially considering brood war has had one balance patch in the 2000s

      People think that StarCraft was always well balanced. It wasn't, and it very nearly died as a result. Then Blizzard somehow nailed it with a patch and the rest is history.
      And you're right. SC2 has become insufferable recently because every match is defaulting to mass air. It's so boring, one of the guys I play with is spending more time on the remaster of the original game than he is on SC2.
