As I fired up this video I was watching an ad on my mobile game and it turned out to be an ad for a game called Age of Apes and now I can't stop laughing.
That Terran had 400 apm which is better than Arty. A real F rank, like if I was playing, would be pushing 70 apm, still clicking to build, probably has original keybinds, and would have great pauses in their actions figuring out what to do as they're used to playing vs CPU.

He really should've just recalled, instead of wasting his army on a frontal attack.
Most people have been pointing this out, but they're very likely smurfs. This is either a satire video, or it genuinely never crossed Artosis' mind that they're smurfs.
the most frustrating part of learning this game is not being able to actually play it, not cause you can't find a match but because everyone leaves all the time. It gets to the point where you aren't even ready to play because you're expecting to have your opponent leave, and then you're like oh im actually gonna play this shit through whoah that's crazy
There has to be players worse than these two, people who just started playing SC and don't know what the units or buildings do. These guys would probably beat me. 😅
Plot twist - we just watched the third match in a row of Rain vs JyJ. Now featuring their smurfing accounts and little gameplay tweaks, so they're not so easily detected. Now think about it ... why does Rain sometimes disappears for months ? While a 700 MMR account with 200 APM plays hundreds of games ? Coincidence ? I THINK NOT! Now really... either all casual players left the ladder or these players are smurfs (of course, I don't really think they're Rain and JyJ). True casual players don't play like that. Not even close.
Bro, he has 700 MMR. To get there you need to play hundreds of games, even if you lose all you games you still be better than 1000 MMR play who didnt play any games. So bottom of the ladder has no relation to weakest on the ladder.
Way to go to discourage me from playing ladder again myself. Haven't played in years and just watching how these guys play, I'm sure I would lose to either of them. 8[ When I last played on a good day I had maybe ~100 APM but usually less than that. Here's an idea: I download the game, play a game on the ladder and then you'd have a replay of what real low-level play looks like! :o
I'm on the same page. I quit because I was getting smashed somewhere between F and E rank, even though I know the build orders and strats and I macro reasonably well.
They are smurfs.... I have only played 7 games (that were actually played, all losses), and 7 games where they instantly leave so my ELO is way too high for my skill level, and it won't go down unless I also partake in this practice of insta leaving...
Come on Arty. even at the beginning you mentioned how each player leaves games early. That wasn't a red flag for smurfing? If F rank has 400+ APM players then what hope do any of us have to pick this game up again?
If you don'r purposefully tank your MMR you will see guys like this in maybe 1 of 20 games. Best way to start is to play 1v1 vs other Noobs from discords like CPL, but ladder is not full of these players. There are actual noobs on the ladder at 800-1100 MMR. I was one of them a few years ago :D
I have an 8-year-old son [Protoss], who is trying to play the ladder (because he grew up watching me play [1200 Zerg]). Unfortunately, on his first 5 establishing games, he had 3 DC's, and they stuck him at 1400. I think he's finally down around 1000. Still, it's been a lot of fun watching him trying to figure out build orders, and how to attack, etc. He's very receptive to advice, etc. At this point, he would lose to either of those players. I'm making him watch this video, because I'm hoping it inspires him.
Artosis knew FULL WELL even before even *WATCHING* this game that both these players are *FAR* from the worst in this ladder. The sole reason for his casting it and commenting it was to demonstrate just how *absolutely POLLUTED by smurfs the ladder is* , and, consequently -- -- how its rankings, and thus -- matchmaking methods -- *are NOT representative AT ALL* of people's true skill levels. A lot of CLEAN UP is required. .
came to laugh at the comments and wasn't disappointed. They are right arty but this is the reality of RTS games, the ranked is just filled with people that lack sportsmanship and just want to crush others.
lol Artosis discovering that us F warriors know basic concepts, builds and timing. Ofc we all do. We are in 2023 not 1999. We all follow the scene. We the F warriors just really sluggish and bad at multitasking. But dont think we're clueless.
My opinion : Both are 100% smurfs. Terran : B rank. Look at his details such as first vulture movement, factory positioning stuck with his main CC's comsat and too old school build choice like 9 facs with only 2 gases even he had 3 expos. Those details were pretty poor, but his macro was still pretty decent. So i'm gonna bet he's like 1900~2000 terran. not more than that. I'm 99% sure that even 2000 terran doesn't make factories like that position. Protoss : C rank pusagi, that's it. Too old school build selection, too poor macro after 11 minutes, just AY MOVE entire armies without any kind of clue, or micro managements, even he didn't get a plenty of eco and gateways yet. Just because he was maxed, he literally AY MOVED without any kind of combinations but with only mass zealots and dragoons.(+1 shuttle.) Normally B rank pusagis try to get some very annoying support units such as mass speed shuttles or mass arbiters and get both corners with a lot of gateways. Which means this protoss was even worse than the other B rank pusagis, so i seriously bet this guy is around like 1600. He's definitely NOT B rank or higher.
The thing with the Terran player is it's hard to tell how much is just a smurf being lazy. For example getting a third gas quickly is something even VERY low level players do and overbuilding factories is something I think smurfs do when they don't feel like macroing well. I think the factory placement is the best marker to his actual quality and I think 1900-2000 is about right. As for the Protoss player? Nah he's not even C rank I reckon, I've never seen a C rank Protoss player just forget their first 2 Arbiters when they're going arbiters. Like I understand Pusagi and all but if Pusagi builds his Pusagi units, gets upgrades for his Pusagi units but doesn't use his Pusagi units then what the fuck is the point?
@@yaboykirby7789 I even ALWAYS, EVERY DAY ON MY STREAM see some stupid B rank pusagis on the ladder forget about his speed shuttle loaded 2 reavers or arbiters which is actually waiting for some sneaky recall direction in front of the terran base. They just forget about it. Why are they making OP units then? I think their hobby is COLLECTING THEM, Not actually playing with it. Like having some imaginary sports car in virtual world cause they would never collect actual sports car in their real life. Are you really sure that you have never seen a C rank pusagi forget about his arbiter with full energy charged? If you answer yeah, then I really don't understand that. Cause even Jumperer who calls himself as S rank pusagi player forgot about his arbiters, 10 high templars and even 4 carriers which moved ON THOSE GOLIATHS' HEAD. Yeah. Those all happened in just one single game. I mean, NOT AY MOVE, JUST MOVE. He literally moved his 4 carriers, and 10 high templars, very peacefully, TO HIS OPPONENT'S GOLIATHS, AND TRY TO PASS GOLIATHS' HEAD. AND THEY ALL DIED.(I even have the PROOF VOD IN MY HARD DRIVE) Yeah. Even S rank protoss(I strongly believe that this guy is just a typical example of B rank pusagi though.) forget about their OP units, but why not C rank? XD
Seddsa is better than me that's for sure 😆 but honestly this was an interesting game to watch. They don't seem like terrible players of a highly competitive game. A bit slower than the pros, and a lot less harrassment, but overall an interesting game to watch given the context!
This Terran player must be hovering around B/A/S rank. He can nail a double armory build pretty well and knows how to properly place mines/position tanks all the while taking bases in a timely and safe manner. Barely floats any money up until 10 minutes and has great scv production. As to the Protoss player: knows how to clear mines, add a lot of gateways and tech to arbiters but his probe production is lacking so looks like a D/C rank player.
When I played on Iccup a very long time ago for the first time I was D- and had a record of about 50 wins and 200 loses. So I respect the grind of this guy. I joined a weak team, got a better player to teach me, watched tons of casts and analyzed my replays. It took 2 years to get to C and then another year to get to B-. From there I became stale and it took quite along time to get to A. This game is hard. Realizing how hard this game is to go into from no experience to online matchmaking I made a RUclips channel that specializes in the very basics of the game.
@@sebastianosuch273 Yeah, you grind thousands of hours, and still get stressed, and you will still suck. It's a game that requires the same time and dedication it takes to graduate from university to get good at, probably even more.
This is super weird. These guys would kick my ass. It's like they are trolling just to stay at the bottom of the ladder because the competition is far too fierce at the top. I'm gonna be honest, I'm a B rank Terran these two are both way better than me.
These people play way better than Gary Oak, the D rank id. ... But arty would need to see the replay firsy to notice they're smurfs. They smurfed themselves to the bottom.
Any of these players in this replays are NOT F rank at all. My wife is F rank player and she will be beaten like nothing. 99% players on F rank are fake - mostly B+ players here. My wife have VERY hard time to get some oponent, which will be fair oponent for her. And fun fact - you find much more likely good player on F rank, than on E-C rank. Most "F rank" players would beat C+ like nothing. That's real situation on F rank.
What’s the point of tanking MMR? I get that players love to just steamroll their opponents, but this doesn’t seem to be what either player wants to do.
It may be good to not get the lowest ranking players, like other commenters mention these players are likely smurfs, but go a little higher on the ladder (though still low) and hopefully that'll be a better representation of players that are trying but actually have fundamental issues with their skill levels.
I’m easily the worst on the ladder with 60-100 apm. That barcode Terran had 400apm, no way was he F rank! Protoss guy probably would beat me 6/7 days of the week. This was a cool change of pace Artosis! It would be cool to keep tabs on our F rank hero once every season.
Easy to do that when the opponent doesn't put any pressure on your bunker but instead uses a slow dragoon to chase a vulture in the middle of the map, AFTER investing in range, which enables you to out-range the bunker 💀💀
This is obviously not real. Having over 400 apm after 10 minutes... yeah, very plausible... :/ But this is why it's so hard to get into SC ladder. When you first ever pick up the game, the opponent is 50% of the time is a 20+year veteran, with full build orders and just wants cool off by bashing noobs. I have not touched the game for a year now, I managed to climb to the bottom of D before that, but this is not fun. Can play a couple games for you, just to show, that my 100 tops apm with builds that fall apart after 5 minutes because I do not know how to scout or how to react to certain strategies, when to expand or such...
I tried to pick StarCraft back up recently, but it's impossible to get into it via the Ladder. My opponent would either immediately leave, or completely crush me into oblivion. I get that I suck, but it was pretty discouraging seeing that I must have been the ONLY noob trying to play.
Like others have said, seems to be smurf vs. smurf. However, I'd love to see more low elo games, perhaps even a series that's similar to low elo legends which T90 produces. Would be awesome to have a collaboration between Artosis and T90!

the terran looks like an S rank smurf the protoss its probably a B rank smurf, just because he is slow true games on F rank are played on ~100 apm and laggy as hell
As a new sc1 player, i noticed that most of the players even on low level, play relatively good. They do these moves like transfering workers, drops and recalls (so friking many drops and recalls). Literally everybody plays some build. And here a come with my freestyle and just kinds watching where it goes. Want to train some macro. That power of ac1 noobs must be meaning there are very few sc1 players who don't watch youtube casts and play just for fun (like there are some total noobs in sc2 who really obviously play just to relax 😅 )
A lot of times, especially for pro players who stream, people will stream snipe them, so a barcode keeps them anonymous, that or they have a delay on their stream.
My friend sent me this with the comment that Artosis made a video about me. My friend is seddsa. He loves tanking his mmr. He's a masters in SC2 or he was until he tanked that too. He also plays AoE2 and AoE4. He likes to just leave matches until he gets the match up he wants on map he wants. He also likes to draw out games as long possible. He used to do this thing where he would split maps with cannons in SC2 and go mass air and play a 60 minute game. He also likes to drag out games and just quit them just before his opponent does.
It's really "enjoyable" to understand that old guys who at last after 20-25 year decide to start their journey in "starcraft multiplayer", their beloved and most treasured childhood game will simply be destroyed and humiliated by this d-c rank shitincels. NO this players not even close to F. Classic trash from D. I Hope when/if SC:R get a new development/support team ppl like these can found only their kind on ladder.
Well, they're either smurfs or the worst players on the ladder are still a 1000 times better than any random dude who played through the campaign 20 years ago.
I average around F-E and maybe D sometimes and yes, people leaving early is extremely common. It's why I haven't gotten too high up in the ladder as I can't be bothered to play it when I know most people will leave or I get ZVZ. Smurfs tanking their mmr is also issue too. I used to play Sc1 1v1s all the time around 2017-2020 but not so much and most of those games were on custom hosted games "1v1 Fighting Spirits Noobs Only" Used to host these all the time as I could control and determine if someone was a smurf trying to get for a easy win or not, whether they came as a barcode or they have a crazy good winrate with thousands of games were usually how I determined that.
@@dimitriuss I leave ZvZ games because they are boring. I don't play Starcraft to be a pro gamer, I do it as a hobby. Besides, ZvP and ZvT are what I wanna improve at, not so much ZvZ. As once a 800mmr player here , i would tell you those instant left game are because system put them with afk bots once their mmr drop below 1000 to boost them up. But it still waste like minutes of yours to scout and kill them so most of the time I would left too. True story

the most frustrating part of learning this game is not being able to actually play it, not cause you can't find a match but because everyone leaves all the time.
There's no way I could play that well. That can't be legitimate bottom-of-the-barrel play. Very good build orders, and reasonable decision making.
Bro, he has 700 MMR. To get there you need to play hundreds of games, even if you lose all you games you still be better than 1000 MMR play who didnt play any games.
So bottom of the ladder has no relation to weakest on the ladder.
It's incredibly likely that they're both smurfs.
Way to go to discourage me from playing ladder again myself. Haven't played in years and just watching how these guys play, I'm sure I would lose to either of them. 8[
When I last played on a good day I had maybe ~100 APM but usually less than that.
Here's an idea:
I download the game, play a game on the ladder and then you'd have a replay of what real low-level play looks like! :o
The players here are tanking their MMR on purpose to get matched against one another.
The games I play look way worse than this one. 😂
There are a lot of 2 digit APM players on the ladder, don't worry.
I'm on the same page. I quit because I was getting smashed somewhere between F and E rank, even though I know the build orders and strats and I macro reasonably well.
Whats' the point cant the f add each other and play whole day@@moralessanchezoscarelias6412
Dont get discouraged, cuz theyre both fake. Their actual rank is S.
This is Smurf rank not F rank. Even Arty might lose to these guys
Well, the Protoss seems like B rank at most, but the Terran was pretty strong
They are smurfs.... I have only played 7 games (that were actually played, all losses), and 7 games where they instantly leave so my ELO is way too high for my skill level, and it won't go down unless I also partake in this practice of insta leaving...
These are clear smurfs. Come on up to 1200. You'll find some REAL bad play there.
@M1999MTM Oh for sure. The point being is that it should be completely obvious this is not bottom tier play.
This is awesome.
The players of this video are S rank tho
I hardly even qualified for the ladder in my "prime" lol, that guy would wipe the floor with me
Artosis knew FULL WELL even before even *WATCHING* this game that both these players are *FAR* from the worst in this ladder.
The sole reason for his casting it and commenting it was to demonstrate just how *absolutely POLLUTED by smurfs the ladder is* , and, consequently --
-- how its rankings, and thus -- matchmaking methods -- *are NOT representative AT ALL* of people's true skill levels.
A lot of CLEAN UP is required.
.
When team games will be casted?
Can't wait for terran to build command centers for his ally zerg.
came to laugh at the comments and wasn't disappointed.
My opinion :
Both are 100% smurfs.
XD
lmao just seeing their APM tells me all I need to know.
There's a few reasons why people leave:
Undesirable match up (especially vs random)
Intentionally keeping their MMR low
Farming portraits
wow, this guy ACTUALLY took his third quicker than Artosis would have. lel. More of this content please.
Lowest ladder player? Protoss. Best player, Flash? Terran. Tesagi confirmed. Irrefutable, empirical evidence.
Seddsa is better than me that's for sure 😆 but honestly this was an interesting game to watch. They don't seem like terrible players of a highly competitive game. A bit slower than the pros, and a lot less harrassment, but overall an interesting game to watch given the context!
The ONLY honorable protoss.
Those poor arbiters. Never realized their full potential.
Mid/low rank E or even D are true beginner games
When I played on Iccup a very long time ago for the first time I was D- and had a record of about 50 wins and 200 loses. So I respect the grind of this guy.
I joined a weak team, got a better player to teach me, watched tons of casts and analyzed my replays. It took 2 years to get to C and then another year to get to B-. From there I became stale and it took quite along time to get to A.
This game is hard.
Realizing how hard this game is to go into from no experience to online matchmaking I made a RUclips channel that specializes in the very basics of the game.
Game is hard, but also extremely stessful. That's why I quit. Huge respect to Arty for still hanging.
I'm gonna be honest, I'm a B rank Terran these two are both way better than me.
f rank has 200 and 400 apm...
Really liked this match, learned a lot
You can tell he's not F rank, as many players said, the lowest ranked players are probably around 1000 mmr, not at the very bottom.
You should have filtered out any player with a high leave rate...
This normalization of smurfing is a poison to the game. Makes it even more difficult for new players to get into the game.
Red = half Artosis APM
Green = twice Artosis AOM
Would love the occasional "guys in the chat" 1v1 of FFA comedic cast .
Looks better than my games and I hang around 1600.
It's comforting to know that I have to practice hard to be near competing with the lowest ranked players
What’s the point of tanking MMR? I get that players love to just steamroll their opponents, but this doesn’t seem to be what either player wants to do.
12:18 I'm pretty sure the gateway right next to the gas that is completely surrounded can't produce dragoons yeah?
Artosis my man, you just caster two mid-level players on smurfs.
I’m 1650 Terran (C rank) and this Terran is better than me. The Terran was a 1700 b rank Smurf and the Protoss was probably 1450 d rank Smurf.
How tf are these the lowest skilled players, the ladder must be a nightmare
Me, reading the headline: Oh, more NAPL?
It may be good to not get the lowest ranking players, like other commenters mention these players are likely smurfs, but go a little higher on the ladder (though still low) and hopefully that'll be a better representation of players that are trying but actually have fundamental issues with their skill levels.
I’m easily the worst on the ladder with 60-100 apm. That barcode Terran had 400apm, no way was he F rank! Protoss guy probably would beat me 6/7 days of the week.
This was a cool change of pace Artosis! It would be cool to keep tabs on our F rank hero once every season.
Better 3rd base timing than Artosis!!!! :)
But this is why it's so hard to get into SC ladder.
Ya that was smurf vs smurf... The Terran was cruising at 400apm haha
Like others have said, seems to be smurf vs. smurf. However, I'd love to see more low elo games, perhaps even a series that's similar to low elo legends which T90 produces. Would be awesome to have a collaboration between Artosis and T90!
Artosis, I really like that you coach during your cast. As a player it’s very helpful.
Bro lmao, savage "seddsa, bottom of the ladder, he's going to remain there after this game"
Cool match, my struggle has always been mid to ĺate game and too much stuff to control tgat i cant ... its a super fun game that i played 20 years ago and just got back into it... thanks Artosis for the upkeep
On sc2 I could make diamond in WOL comfortably with zerg (130apm) by making 4 expo hatcheries at the start.
the terran looks like an S rank smurf
the protoss its probably a B rank smurf, just because he is slow
true games on F rank are played on ~100 apm and laggy as hell
I would say yes for both. Terran just an easiest race to win with mindless push after maxing out, literal a-click + siege just deletes other races.
Wow so pro's are not only battling at top mmrs, but also at the lowest!
2:14 how do you follow the worker like that?
These guys are pretty good, they would kick my ass in an instant
As a new sc1 player, i noticed that most of the players even on low level, play relatively good. They do these moves like transfering workers, drops and recalls (so friking many drops and recalls). Literally everybody plays some build. And here a come with my freestyle and just kinds watching where it goes. Want to train some macro.
That power of ac1 noobs must be meaning there are very few sc1 players who don't watch youtube casts and play just for fun (like there are some total noobs in sc2 who really obviously play just to relax 😅 )
whats a "barcode" name anyways? do ppl just do that to stay anonymous kinda?
you got it.
A lot of times, especially for pro players who stream, people will stream snipe them, so a barcode keeps them anonymous, that or they have a delay on their stream.
As someone who last played StarCraft 25 years ago, this replay convinced me to never try ladder again.
Seems clear these are smurfs - would love to see a replay of real "low ranked" players in a match.
This really discourages new players
I average around F-E and maybe D sometimes and yes, people leaving early is extremely common. It's why I haven't gotten too high up in the ladder as I can't be bothered to play it when I know most people will leave or I get ZVZ. Smurfs tanking their mmr is also issue too. I used to play Sc1 1v1s all the time around 2017-2020 but not so much and most of those games were on custom hosted games "1v1 Fighting Spirits Noobs Only" Used to host these all the time as I could control and determine if someone was a smurf trying to get for a easy win or not, whether they came as a barcode or they have a crazy good winrate with thousands of games were usually how I determined that.
so instead of playing competitively you cherry picked easy opponents, because you didnt like ZvZ? cool story bro
@@dimitriuss I leave ZvZ games because they are boring. I don't play Starcraft to be a pro gamer, I do it as a hobby. Besides, ZvP and ZvT are what I wanna improve at, not so much ZvZ. So if I get a ZvZ most of the time, I simply leave. As of writing that comment, and watching this video, however, I have been trying to play the ladder again out of motivation. As of right now, I left the one ZvZ game I got today but I'll try stomach those games, as it wouldn't be fun for those who have to re-queue. No promises though.
Im at a thousand mmr and not me neather my oppoments manage to spend our resourses that good. SUS
As once a 800mmr player here , i would tell you those instant left game are because system put them with afk bots once their mmr drop below 1000 to boost them up. But it still waste like minutes of yours to scout and kill them so most of the time I would left too. True story
I just won my first 2 games in F rank! I started laddering a week ago. Its been a dream of mine to play broodwar online since i was a kid.
I would love to see more f rank games
I was kinda expecting like a 4 pool and then attack move and quit. SCV Rush, meet in middle.
This was very competent - if not pro level - Starcrafting.
To visit each ranks is appealing. From F to S and then back down to F could prove somewhat constructive.
I have recently started playing sc1 and I confirm - people on these ranks insta-leave like A LOT. Mostly it happens when I play random or there are tvt matches 😂
Probably this guy avoids playing mirror and vs random, leaving him at low MMR so he can enjoy beating weaker opponents.
I kinda want to get into this game, how is the online scene?
Wow, this is quite unusual for this channel! Lower level players certainly do things different! Maybe there could be more casts of lower ranked players?
Edit: I finished watching the video, and I think the Terran would've died if Protoss went early DTs. And losing track of arbiters was a major issue too!
