    I can't believe I never realised the flower actually *looks like* the Eye of the Universe, and that it grows out of the eye if the inhabitant.
    What an *eye-opening* realisation.
    Awesome video yet again!

    None of the slide reels are artistic renditions anymore after The Prisoner is imprisoned, they are instead photos. And The Prisoner himself shows his visions to you through the staff in the same art style as all the painted slide reels, even the one with you and him floating to the horizon. This implies that the prisoner was also their artist.

    1. Everything they see using the stick is metaphorical in some ways. This is why we see us leave with the prisoner on a raft, and this is why we see an Owlk actualy touch the icon of the eye.
    2. The vision that scared the Owlks was viewed via the stick, and so it is also a metaphore, showing them that if they interact with the eye, they will die and will be the source of a new eye of the universe (the flower growing out of their eye socket sprouting new galaxies). It seems as though they are a crucial part, and that there needs to be an observer interacting with the eye in order for a new eye to grow.
    3. The new eye eventually grew from the interaction of the hatchling with the old eye. But since he observed the Nomai and Owlks before coming to the eye, they too influenced the resulting universe as seen in the 14.3 billion years later image.
    This is what I came up with... after watching your videos, talking to the OW community on reddit and thinking about it.

    • @knowledgeacquirer2931
      @knowledgeacquirer2931 Год назад +3

      It's metaphorical because that's the intent of the user; the vision torches are used to receive, store and transmit thoughts from minds. They're used to document memories, as we see in the lab, with the torch outside the simulated version of the diving bell and the Prisoner recounting the contents of the 4th story slide reel. The vision we share with the Prisoner and vice versa afterwards shows that more generally, it's about thoughts.
      As an aside, this might be what shows the Eye itself is conscious to some degree, since the torch was used on the Eye as well. The iconography in the mural and depicted vision being similar to how the Ancient Glade is like, and the fact that the inhabitants wouldn't have the knowledge about macroscopic quantum mechanics (especially if they're not aware the quantum moon is quantum) to figure out what the Eye does on their own, means this vision is indeed coming straight from the Eye. The abstractions are its own, just like the ones it makes in ending as well, with the Nomai skeletons standing on top of each other to form the shuttle, having to blow out the candles on murals of being we know and of course, the galaxies going out in the Ancient Glade. This would also explain why the quantum planet at the Eye doesn't move around, despite being the source of all the marcoscopic quantum phenomena in the solar system meaning that is should be even more quantum; conscious observation is what collapses possibilities as explictly mentioned by the Nomai, and there's no one else who could have been keeping the quantum planet at the Hearthians' solar system for as long as the inhabitants first arrived to the many hundreds of thousands of years after when the Sun is finally going nova. The obvious question then is why it doesn't just observe itself, but we see for ourselves how observing the outside of the Eye isn't enough, we need to actually going into the storm, the essence of the Eye; that's not something the Eye would be able to do.

    Persoally I would say the mural is the prisoner's interpretation of the vision. I think it would make sense if the vision was affected by who is seeing it, because of stuff like the death of the universe coming from the Eye. We know the Eye doesn't cause the destruction of this universe, so this must be interpretive.
    Therefore I think the prisoner's optimism allowed them to focus more on the rebirth shown at the end of the vision, where others just saw it as them being forgotten and their bones left to rot.

    • @knowledgeacquirer2931
      @knowledgeacquirer2931 Год назад +12

      This is already debunked as mentioned in the vid; the depicted vision in the slide reel was already showing how the bud was growing out of the skull, the mural is not an addition that the Pris came up with their own.
      It's also already pointed out how in the depicted vision, stars are absent before the inhabitant triggers the new big bang (which does destroy the previous universe, it kills us in the ending especially and only the scout can survive if it was sent into the Eye), with new ones appearing after the 'explosion' appears. So the inhabitants were already aware of this, but didn't care for it. The slide reel depiction is not 1:1 to the actual vision they would have received, and we not only know this from how the solar system is still depicted as it was in present time for the inhabitants, despite every other star being dead, as well as the devs confirming it's only a depiction, not a direct copy of the vision; the inhabitants are clearly taking liberties with what they depicted the vision as in the slide reel.

    • @deskrabbit2190
      @deskrabbit2190 Год назад +17

      @@knowledgeacquirer2931 I would argue this proves the opposite. In the slide reel, you can see the bud has only started growing but the grass is very long and overgrown, whereas in the mural the grass is much shorter but the bud is fully grown, so the mural physically cannot just be the continuation of the reel as it wouldn't make sense.
      The only way this makes sense to me is if the other Owlks' interpretations de-emphasized the bud and focused on being overgrown and forgotten, whereas the prisoner emphasized the bud in their interpretation.
      Additionally, you say "the inhabitants are clearly taking liberties with what they depicted the vision as in the slide reel," and that's exactly my point. The vision is interpretive.

    I believed that the Prisoner was also the owlk discoverer of the EYE with the telescope, as seen in the other murals throughout the Stranger, which was why he had his own home separate from everyone as a house of honor and held in high esteem. And then, after the change in perception of the Eye, suddenly he is outcast for them having destroyed their homeworld to build the Stranger for their long voyage. This, I believe, was why he has lost one of his antlers - as a symbol of rejection - and his home was burned in effigy after his act of trying to release the Eye that led to his incarceration, and then his good works remained forgotten. That's why they burned the slides and altered others. I love this interpretation of the mural.

    • @TheLoreExplorer
      @TheLoreExplorer  5 месяцев назад +4

      Im not so sure about this. The journey from their homeworld to the Outer Wilds system was a long one. If anything Id say the prisoner was the short (kid) inhabitant in the reel in which they find the eye on thier homeworld.
      And we also see that by the time the inhabitants parked the stranger the prisoners antler was already broken. I also dont think they were held in high regard. Id imagine their houses location tells us a couple of things. First they wanted their house out of the way in order to use their telescope. Its very sensitive to light and a main area or dwelling would be flooded with it! And secondly I think theyve felt like an outcast their entire live's. The single antler thing must be tough.
      Lastly, the prisoners house wasnt burnt after the perception of the eye changed. That happens right when they get to the system. The prisoners house was burnt after the prisoner freed the eyes signal. This was a crime that could not go unpunished. And after the prisoner was gone the prisoners house simply sat as a reminder of the eye and their deeds. And so they naturally burned it to forget about it(which seems to be their go to move).
      But Im very glad you appreciated the interpretation!

    It takes a su-u-u-per long time to decay! Its half-life is is approximately 245,500 years! And to point out that after 281,042 years, ghost matter is still all over the solar system.
    A bonus is that the crystals appear as bright neon yellow, to green crystals! It can distort someone's vision, causing them to see bluish-green!
    Since it also contains uraniun, wouldn't it make sense that Tektite lost their foot because of a ghost matter accident? It could have given them radiation poisoning.

      Why would they be the one who drew it when they're not even the one who saw the vision? The depicted vision having both true (the absence of stars before the Eye does its thing, and new ones afterwards) and false (the solar system being illustrated as how it was for them back then despite the absence of stars meaning heat death is already occurring) parts means that this was a vetted depiction of the vision, that they agreed upon as being what's shown in the slide reel. If the Prisoner was the one who came up with the illustrations (despite again, not being the original recipient of the vision), then there would be no need for them to come up with their own false parts.

We know that the Eye is older than the universe and there is no evidence that the Eye dies at the end of the game, the same eye would create the universe so if the flower was the Eye, it would be weird to represent the Eye as being born out of the skull but it makes sense if the Universe is born out of the eye of the observer which could of been the Owlkin but they feared the vision so instead its the Protagonist.

  • @mattlea123456789
    @mattlea123456789 Год назад +1

    The eye of the universe is quantum like the moon, and I think for it to materialize and reset the universe, it has to be observed.
    The proof is in the "Dream Ending" where we remove the Advanced Warp Core and dying in front of the dream fire to permanently stay in the dream world,
    the player is stuck for ever:
    "How long have you been here? Minutes? Years? You are unsure but it seems your journey has reached its end."
    For me, this means that the end of the universe never happens, because no living species is able to find the eye of the universe.
    Moreover, this would be logical with the quantum theory of the observer.
    According to Wikipedia:
    "In physics, the observer effect is the disturbance of an observed system by the act of observation."
    "A notable example of the observer effect occurs in quantum mechanics, as demonstrated by the double-slit experiment. Physicists have found that observation of quantum phenomena by a detector or an instrument can change the measured results of this experiment."
    And I think that's why the flower comes out of the eye of the skull.

    If Outer Wilds is starting to get hard to create new lore content from, you could always give Death Stranding a go. 😂 Given that the delivery is Kafkaesque (scanner is called an Odradek ffs 🤭) in nature and you have to get to the end until everything comes together (or does it?), it's a far bigger challenge to decipher. With the last five hours or so being part of the end exposition - two of which are pure cinematics - you get the explanation to two mysteries which can be figured out to some degree and that you do get presented as being mysteries you're here to solve. However, after the last mini reveal post real credits you realize "why is there a third reveal, there is no third mystery"? You can get the final *clues* to this mystery by playing way past the ending, but no real mystery will ever be given, you have to figure out the question yourself. You have to play/watch the game again over and over to start noticing loads of subtle clues everyone will miss in their first playthrough.
    It's slow pacing, philosophical nature, and just utter weirdness is going to throw some people off, so Death Stranding is definitely not a game suitable for everyone. So be sure to watch YongYea's spoiler free review of it before even considering it. Since it's a quite polarizing game, it has less fans, so the undertaking would be more to satisfy your own curiosity than high traffic generation. Remember that all players will have a "full understanding" of the game when everything comes together, some things may even be called out, but no players *actually* have a full understanding unless they've digested this to hell and beyond. 🙂

    That's so beautiful, the eye of the universe created the universe, all of its beauty and ugliness, good and evil, the known and the unknown.
    And it also created intelligent life so they can observe all of that beauty.
    New beauty lies in the darkness of the unknown, and the unknown is scary because it could be deadly (and very often it is). So the eye is essentially tempting them to explore the unknown, to get rid of their worldly desires of staying alive in this world so they can become alive in the next world and experience all of the beauty of a new universe, all at once (until it "dries out" and dies of natural causes).
    All of which will be able to be fully experienced because the new eye would have necessarily have to have left its fear of death behind in the old world.
    The all seeing eye 👁️ is simply appreciating the beauty of its own creation and giving the opportunity to its creations to experience all of that beauty for themselves.
    It gives them the imperfect gifts of life and vision.
    We normally get partial life and partial vision, because we're mortal beings who don't know everything.
    The Strangers tried to live forever in exchange for loosing the ability to see, they closed their eyes to reality because of their deep regret of destroying all of which they consider beautiful. (Their home planet)
    Which made them to no longer be able to see anything else as beautiful (remember the slide reel where they're observing the solar system presumably disappointed with what they see and they all go back to watch their memories of their own planet) so they rejected the gift of vision and tried to outsmart the eye by fully embracing the gift of life. And they "paid for their sins" by living an eternal life of damnation.
    The Nomai on the other hand were so eager to appreciate new beauty that they irresponsibly warped into the unknown without checking if there was a brambly planet in the way.
    They also were so obsessed with the eye that they didn't look around to check out for danger, they didn't notice the interloper until it was too late.
    So they underappreciated the gift of life because they were too obsessed with the gift of vision. And they "paid for their sins" by being exterminated by the "wrath of God" in a natural disaster.
    The lesson of the eye is that you need to appreciate both things, the gift of life and the gift of vision. You can't experience one without the other.
    I believe the Hearthians were the chosen ones to be able to appreciate both gifts fully by giving the protagonist the opportunity to becoming the new eye of the universe, and also being capable of living for an entire universe's lifespan (essentially forever) while at the same time being able to observe ALL of the beauty of this new universe (that's why it's called the eye of the universe, because it's simply observing).
    But if the protagonist fails to explore the unknown without dying (as we inevitably often did) then he "forgives us" from our "sins", he forgives our mistakes by sacrificing himself over and over again to give us another chance. (He's paying for our sins)
    That's mostly speculation, but I assume that after you die and the loop sends back your memories the rest of the universe plays out the entire escenario of the heat death of the universe, which is essentially also the death of the eye as it also enters into darkness. So the warp technology actually warps our memories to a random alternative universe from the infinite multiverse.
    We play as the Jesus Christ of that universe if you think about it, he is fully Hearthian but at the same time he's fully "The eye of the universe" as well because he has the full gift of eternal life and (if you beat the game) he also has the full gift of vision.
    The time loop and immortality allows you to perform feats that from the outside perspective of a Hearthian observer, with a linear and unidirectional perception of time (Gabro doesn't count), could only be described as "miracles".
    We should die for our own mistakes but the old eye forgives us by taking the form of the Hearthian, becoming flesh and sacrificing himself to save us by sending our memories to an alternate universe where he resurrects himself and we (possibly) don't make that mistake.
    So essentially in every loop where we die we play as the old eye of the universe and in the very last loop where we win we are playing as the Hearthian who causes the apocalypse by bringing the kingdom of heaven down to Timber Hearth and burning everything down into flames to make room for a new creation.
    (I don't know enough about Christian theology to accurately describe the apocalypse or to make a proper connection between Jesus's fight to the death against the devil during his the second coming or if there's any similarities between the game and such fight)

      I think the eye wanting to share the beauty of his creation by creating other intelligent beings to share it with is similar to the way we want to share this beauty of a game by obsessively telling everyone to play it while at the same time refusing to reveal a single detail about it.
      The frustration and disappointment when they don't play it, or when they play it and they don't like it, that must be what it feels like to God (if he actually exists) like when we can't appreciate the beauty of reality, when we're stuck in the past, when we refuse to see reality as it really is or when we carelessly throw ourselves around and harm ourselves without any care for our own lives or the lives of others.
      He gives us the partial gifts of life and vision, if we can't appreciate the beauty he simply takes those gifts back and gives them to someone more grateful and capable of appreciating the beauty without killing themselves in the process.
      Then they would have proven to be worthy of the full gifts of life and vision.
      You could say that this life is like a trial version of the full game which is eternal life, you can try it for free and if you like it you can choose to play the full game or if you don't you can choose to stop playing. The only prerequisite for being able to play the full game is enjoying the early access/ free trial version for what it is and understanding the potential of the full game.

    I don't think it has anything to do with beauty. I think it's a representation of simply that the eye needs a sacrificial observer to birth something new. The skull is the person sacrificing themselves, the flower is just a line of coorelation coming from the eye of the skull to the EotU, essentially saying, "From your observation, even in death, you will birth soemthing new." I suppose you can throw beauty in there as in birthing something new and beautiful. But it definitely doesn't really make sense the "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" idea. Unless you're taking the phrase more literally, which goes against the original formulation of the saying so you may as well not use the saying at all.

      @@ShadowChief117 I think that’s what makes art so special. People can resonate with it however they like. It actually kind of illustrates my point. It’s not beautiful to you. But that’s what immediately struck me. That whole phrase and how well it’d fit the eye.

      @TheLoreExplorer I didn't say it wasn't beautiful to me. I'm mostly commenting on your use of the phrase "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." I love the painting. I just don't think the phrase fits here.

      @ShadowChief117 Art says different things to different people. The flower being in the eye of the observer. It seems logical to me bud. But I genuinely do appreciate the input!

    Why would they simulate the mural? And the prisoners burnt home?

    • @TheLoreExplorer
      @TheLoreExplorer  3 месяца назад +1

      @@rere1168 The prisoners home wasn’t always burned. It was added as a normal home. But after the prisoner tried to release the eyes signal they burned it down. At this point they didn’t even remember it was a sim for the most part. They couldn’t just wake up and erase it. So they burned it down.
      Same goes for the mural really. They didn’t simulate it to begin with. The prisoner had to create it and hide it within the sim. Remember the sim is just like real life. They can still chop down a tree and whatnot. Make things. So the prisoner just made it.
