I use bernat blanket for ALL my blankets. When I make them for newborns, I make them BIG and the mothers love them because they are soooo soft AND the baby can grow into before they grow out of it. I always use HDC. I've never used DC on bernat blanket because I found it to be too holey but I think that is because I always use a 10mm or 12mm hook. Maybe I'll try with an 8mm hook. Thanks for this video. Very relaxing.
Thank you for watching! DC is always my fall back and preferred stitch but I am starting to warm up to HDC. I do the same with making them big so they last a few years. I wish I had used it for my son's newborn blanket. I do believe a smaller hook will tighten up the tension on the stitches. Let me know how it goes!
You cut the knot short, his yarn can come undone a lot easier then thinner yarn. I do the magic knot with all my ties and always leave tails to work in later
OMG yes I only buy from Walmart cuz it’s cheaper there than anywhere else including Amazon! So I’d my local #1 Walmart is out I use the app to check other stores and then order online worth in store pick up. If you do it early enough it’s available same day!!
Hi! Thank you so much for your video. I bought the same yarn and color to make a baby blanket for my granddaughter who is due in February. I'm soo excited. Will you be making a border for this blanket?
Thank you for watching! I actually didn't make a border for it. I'm getting into borders and have only done a couple projects with them. I want to use them more so we will see what happens, keep posted ;) But my friend loved the blanket and her daughter was actually born within a week after I gave this to her! I bet yours will turn out beautifully! Congrats as well!
@@crochet.away87 Thank you for your response and your vote of confidence. I'm actually working it up in a half double because I cant get my tension right, so hoping it will turn out okay. . .
I actually ordered some for my daughter it comes Wednesday and I’m excited to start this project. She will be 1 on the 16th and she loves blankets. I use to crochet at age 6 but stopped because parents didn’t but more yarn. So i would like to know how you start the yarn process as i would like to make more for my kids and others.
Congrats on her turning 1 soon! I miss when my son was that little. When I go shopping for yarn, I tend to do 2 things. 1: I look for colors that are neutral or would go with a lot of different colored clothing. 2: I go for colors that may look a bit crazy but that bring a smile to my face. With any "crazy" colors, you can almost always pair a neutral with them to break it up a bit. You would be surprised with how projects turn out. Now, if I'm making a project for someone like I was with this baby blanket, I ask the person what colors or themes they would like. Some want gender specific if they know the sex, or gender neutral if they don't. They may want something to match the nursery or favorite sports team. Choose colors that you like as well because you can never make too many projects for yourself ;) I would also recommend trying some more expensive yarn and some cheaper yarn to see how you like working with both. I prefer to use Red Heart for almost all my projects but that is just me. I hope this helps, thank you for watching and Happy Crocheting!
I’ve watched a lot of videos on baby blankets but no one ever shows how to start the baby blanket from the first stitch. I’m totally confused. I have Baby Bee yarn Adore-A-Ball Bulky 5 Pink/White Multi
Hello, thank you for your comment! I just crochet straight through with the yarn and wait to see how it turns out. I know there is a thing called color blocking, but I have not learned that yet. Thank you for watching!
Hi! Wondering if you could help. I started making a blanket using this same exact yarn (same color too) and as I was making the blanket, all of a sudden the pattern that was naturally occurring changed. Do you know what I did wrong? I’m a new to crochet
Welcome to the crochet family! I don't think you did anything wrong. Unfortunately that can happen with variegated yarn, I use it for a lot of my projects and it happens all the time. It changes throughout and isn't always consistent. I would recommend using color pooling yarn that creates patterns OR there are videos on RUclips here that can teach you how to do it with other yarn. I tried watching one and got confused lol. I actually was just gifted some yarn that self pools and I'm going to film a video using it soon! I hope that helped and thank you for watching! Happy Crocheting!
I would recommend using Dreft liquid laundry detergent. It's safe for babies and can usually be found in the baby aisle. I have seen other people hand washing with natural soaps too but that is up to you. I would definitely recommend doing some research as well.

@@jonmedlin7744 for a blanket that is 55x48 inches, using hdc and a 12mm hook, i use 7 rolls.
I made a blanket and covered a pillow for my grandbaby....I found it to be the hardest yarn to work with.
You can do a very good job me Tina have a good day
THANK YOU. Lovely.
Thank you too!
Beautiful update

Hi, your blanket is coming out beautiful. When is giving away as a gift, do you wash the blanket before or no? Thank you!
Thank you and thank you for watching! I do wash them occasionally, especially with Covid 19.

I got the same yarn that I’m going to make for my great niece due in February. How many chains did you make and how many balls did you use.
How many packs of bulky yarn takes to make the blanket?
Yes I will
I’ve watched a lot of videos on baby blankets but no one ever shows how to start the baby blanket from the first stitch. I’m totally confused. I have Baby Bee yarn Adore-A-Ball Bulky 5 Pink/White Multi
She has a video before this one that shows how she started
How did u get the colors to meet together instead of having mismatched colors in on stitch? Like basically having it not look like chaos ?
Hello, thank you for your comment! I just crochet straight through with the yarn and wait to see how it turns out. I know there is a thing called color blocking, but I have not learned that yet. Thank you for watching!
Hi I only have 2 balls of the same kind of yarn you are uesing how many chans do you think I should do?
When you get to the end where chain two is, how do you finish and turn?
Did you put an edge around the blanket?
How did you finish the edging around the blanket?

What do you recommend washing with as far as for babies.
I would recommend using Dreft liquid laundry detergent. It's safe for babies and can usually be found in the baby aisle. I have seen other people hand washing with natural soaps too but that is up to you. I would definitely recommend doing some research as well.
