New DJI Mini 3 Leaks and my predictions

- DJI Mini 3 leaks are popping up on twitter, this is DJI's thing. The Mavic 3 launch was similar just before it was announced.
This is my educated guess as to what to expect with this DJI Drone if it follows the same release patters as the last few launches.
April launch (fingers crossed, maybe May)
1/2 inch sensor (or more) ((biggest improvement I'm expecting))
Probably same 12mp photos
A few more minutes of flight time
4K 60fps
$550 ish
Hyperlapse... i would LOVE that but maybe asking too much
More sensors than only having the bottom ones
A Mini 3 Pro model with a controller like the RC Pro for the Mavic 3/Air 2S probably for $1200ish
Onbord memory would be super cool and barely costs anything for DJI. Probably for a pro model if there was one.

When most drones that came out were complete lookalikes of the Mini 2, this move is so bold of DJI! I mean to depart from the original design of their popular Mini 2 and come up with one that looks so intriguing!

Most important for Mini 3 to me is to have a version that is 249g with propeller guards and remote ID... that would place it as a "category 1" drone that can be flown over people without a parachute

The sensor will be much bigger than 1/2. Leaks say 1/1.3 but around 30% of this sensor will be used for EIS, so the working area will be 1/1.7 - 1/2.
just pause if you want to look at those leaks. Also the "DJI Mini 3 Pro" leaked photo has f2.4 and f1.7 on its lens... So a higher aperture would be a great addition i'd be happy with BUT what if it has two lenses.. like a regular length and even just a 2x zoom. Nothing crazy like the mavic 3's 180mm... but still. Holy cow that would be a killer drone, hilarious its their most entry level one too lol.

I've always appreciated your clips. I like how you stay on topic and highlight the parts where you mess up, bringing humor into it. Most people wouldn't do that. I'm hoping one day you'll make videos mocking other RUclipsrs who take an hour to explain or demonstrate something that takes a minute or two to perform. I never watch long clips simply because I don't have the time. I like your style and wish more creator's would take the same approach. ✌️

Same! I'm happy with my Mini 2's camera performance already but if DJI would improve the camera specs of the Mini 3 then all the better! Maybe if they could add 4K/60 fps, that would be great!

I have the original Mini, intentionally did not buy the mini 2 just so I can buy the Mini 3 whenever they decided to launch it. Glad to hear it's finally gonna happen.
Wouldn't it make sense for DJI to use the sensor from the osmo pocket 2 in the mini 3? 1/1.7" sensor, 4k60, f/1.8, 20mm equiv. Seems like a great addition for the mini 3.
It would, way less research and development on their end when they've already got a proven camera.
Great information on the new Mini 3, and thanks for sharing. I hope they keep the price reasonable, the new Autel Mini drone is priced way above many people's budgets for a Mini drone.

Hard choice because Autel has some really good camera's.... the quad quality is ass though

On board memory would be a big improvement, and we don't need much. We swapped our air for a mini 2 and really miss that feature. More than once we forgot our memory card...

I actually just bought a mini 2 a couple weeks ago from Costco. They have a 90 day return policy. So if I really want the upgrade when it comes out I’ll just return it and get the 3.
What I would actually like in the mini 3 is to be able to use it as a possible small SAR platform. Some actually useful inbuilt patrol/search routs that you can do. Something about the event title: "For Everyday Heroes" kind of gives a small hint to it possibly being able to do that. Not everyone can afford their 7k Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced. This looks like they might release a Mini version of that for cheaper Enterprise starting drones. I would LOVE to grab something like that, get all the required training and licenses and USE it with organizations that want to utilize it for SAR Operations. I can see Civil Air Patrol looking at this with some interest if they DO come out with a more affordable Enterprise Mini.
I think we will get sticker shock with the Mini 3 just like we did with the Mavic 3. I am thinking it will be at least the price of the Nano+ if not more. Also, I think with all the wants for camera size and a bigger battery and more sensors it might be difficult for them to keep it under 250gms but that is the big selling point of the Mini 2 and the Nano+. So, if Autel can do it you know DJI will also.
Hey man, thanks for the mention. Nice predictions too. I think the camera is indeed the same cam we have seen on the Air2 and DJI pocket 2.
But wanted to tell you that as far as I know from the original sources. DJI never develops their drones last minute. All is set months ahead and worked out in much detail. Just think about the box now leaked. I don’t think it’s planned. Only thing that is usually behind is the software department, because the testing is always very late. Early buyers are always beta testers.
Early buyers beta testing I’ve seen really often, I’m usually curious myself so I will do the beta testing lol
I remember the Mavic 2 Pro had some whacky color in DLOG and that was a big reason I bought that drone
What would make me buy the mini 3 would be extra sensors. I’m so scared of crashing my mini 2.
Sensors are the most useless thing on these drones. Just learn to use your head hence the drone too. If it starts to fall no sensors will save it anyways lol
This new mini version has lots of improvements, but one feature that is not mentioned that the mini 2 has is zoom capabilities. Is it available on the mini 3?
New leak seems to have 3 point gimble and some kind of obstacle avoidance sensors.
I have the original mini. Was thinking about getting a Mini 2. But maybe I should wait now?
I didn’t care for original mini either, too many nice sunsets wasted. The mini 2 though is a really nice step up
FPV mini? That's crazy! I thought they are giving up on the FPV product line since DJI FPV turned out to be not so popular. But man, DJI FPV is so much fun and it will be awesome if we can have a smaller and more portable version of it.
I would give anything for the Mini 3 to have a 1" sensor. That and some collision avoidance. Everything else is fluff. At the end of the day it's all about high quality photos in a tiny size drone. People would be in line for hours. Like the DJI drone version of the GPU apocalypse.
The mini category is undoubtedly the most valuable drone. No license, no registration, fewer flight restricted zones = more opportunities to fly.
However, if they added genuine active tracking and added some more obstacle avoidance sensors I'd probably make the trade-in to get one. But for now, just working on becoming a better drone pilot is plenty of fun 😊
Yep. All sounds plausible... let’s see what plays out. Mini 3 has quite a bit to catch up on following competitors. A sensor improvement would be top of my list

Most important thing is to stay under 250g. And personally for me it’s important to have Active track (more sensors). All the rest is good enough on Mini2
The Mini 2 only does h.264, so adding HEVC/265 would be a great upgrade for file sizes. Hopefully we will also get better transmission speeds. 5MB/s to my phone from the drone is painfully slow.
Yes, it just takes forever doesn't it? And god we're just so very busy.
Regarding strength and crashes,
FOR ALL DRONES.
We need weaker springs in the legs. This will mean in the impact of a crash; the springs flex absorbing the initial impact instead of putting all the impact through the legs. Currently, the springs are stronger than the plastic legs, which means that the legs break before the spring moves.
Gravity, most crashes from height are going to end with catastrophic failure of some kind unless it deploys an airbag upon impact.
I am not sure where DJI are going with the Mini 3 due to the current line up, bigger sensor maybe & squeeze a few extra minutes of flight time & waypoints would be nice . Just hope DJI dont go overboard with the price.
I'm glad I got my Mini 2, been having great fun with it so far! Even if the Mini 3 did have more sensors and obstacle avoidance I don't think it's much of an improvement. I am also not in it for the picture/video quality (although 4K30 is great) because I just got it to have fun. If the Mini 3 had more sensors, active track and the waypoints (like Air 2S has) then it would potentially be a compelling point to get it, other than that I will stick with my Mini 2 and wait for the Mini 4 or 5 to come out in a few years time.

Mini 3 Pro makes sense, making a Air 2 obsolete. Coincidentally DJI is putting out a massive discount on the air 2y

Nobody cares for 10 bit, 12 bit, ProRes, ProShit... Only the brainwashed youtubers and some sort of "Pro" video makers so why would they put such feature in their entry level drone while you have 3 Cine 😄
They already have a better camera to use from the Pocket 2, they just need to stuff it on a drone.

Most people who buy the drone are use it casually and even mavic mini 2 is more than enough for them. Drones are a expensive piece of hardware and 80% of people who like this hobby can't even buy a air 2s because of the price and dji knows that and focused more in their less expensive drones. Because the drones Iike mini 2 or mavic air 2 are sell way more and better than for example mavic 3. I'm sure dji make mini 3 a great drone with good price to control his drone market.😃👍
