- This is coming from a career camera operator/video editor. Drones available now are VERY capable but if its not your hobby you probably have no idea what all the numbers mean, what to pay, or what is and isn't worth it.
Trying to make it easy for you
Expect to pay $400 or more if you don't want him to get bullied on the playground
If your budget is lower than that, just get a Holystone, its a really cool toy, but that's mostly what it is.
www.amazon.com/s?k=holystone&...
The differences between the $400 and $3000 one are not noticeable unless he is adept at video and photography and knows how to edit.
Otherwise he will be delighted with even the lowest tier option I show you.
These are the drones that basically everybody in our field is flipping out over (hobbyists and professionals) so you picked a really great time to get one. There has never been this much technology for so little cost.
DJI Mini 2 - $450

Mavic Air 2S - $1000

Mavic 3 just for fun - $2300

He WILL need an SD card as well to save the photos to
64gb U3 Micro SD Card is only like $10

"it's recording ingredients, it's not making anything for you." is the best example of why to hire a pro I've ever heard. I'm going to use this to explain why people should hire me. Worth the watch for that nugget alone!
Ew
Yup, plain and simple!
I can't understand how you keep a straight face and speed-sling some of the funniest lines I've heard! Also, great work on the video and you've confirmed a category of drone users I've been thinking exist but noboy ever talks about!
Thank you for answering the magic question less than 2 minutes in! Much success to you, sir!
"Why listen to me even though I am bold?"
Fell out of my seat, jesus xD
Love this guy...deleted a bunch pf channels because of his style....thank you.
Alex, again thank you for getting to the points right off the bat. Great video man,,
Awesome stuff as usual. Thanks for the ramble free content.
Great information about what drones to get Dad for the holidays. It’s very confusing for most consumers, but you simplify in a way that makes it’s easy to understand. Thanks sharing Alex.
I really must applaud your direct, no nonsense approach. I have seen other guys on RUclips that are upselling products that most entry level videographers would break the bank over. Thanks! I look forward to more info, and I will definitely be looking into your drone courses. Cheers!
Great comparison received my 1st drone mini 1 at 60 yrs young. Just upgraded to Air 2s 1 yr later. Dad.
I'm not a dad. But I'm 70 and a lifetime photographer. I just ordered an Air 2S because it's perfect for someone who knows about sensors and wants a nice big one. And I'm a bit of a klutz-hopefully trainable-so I don't want something crazy expensive. But fundamentally, I can't walk as far as I used to, and I know places that, if I could go further, I can get the photo I've always wanted rather than the ones I might have settled for. And the height aspect is a revelation.
There are places in the Great Basin and other great deserts and mountains that I've been to a dozen times. Now, I can go again and it can ALL be new again. And I am a former sailor, and absolutely love the idea of creating videos of sailboats on the water. You damned right. A geezer has a use for these things.
Another great vid👍👍
Gotta love your top notch humour in your videos..love it! and amazing content through and through.
Brilliant video. I knew i'll find what i was looking for in your video. thanks again bro.
I’m impressed with your Honesty and straight forwardness I’ve been doing a lot of research on Drone Photography and Video production and also didn’t know which drone to get and the proper education with you have ; I will start with the Mini 2 I also intend on enrolling into the course and learn the process of properly edit and provide quality work for Possibly a Drone Production Co. I look forward to More Great Videos Thanks
"if it falls out the sky it'll kill somebody" LMAO
But it really will. The mini 2 will bounce off them, barely leaving a scratch.
Great video!! I have definitely made up my mind and I will be getting the Air 2s because I already have the mini 2, and the only other option was the mavic 3 and after your video its clear the Air 2S is the best choice. Great video handsome ❤
Agree with every word. I started a year ago with a £50.00 drone that was rubbish and I knew nothing. Then got the mavic mini 2. WOW! What a difference!!! excellent little drone. I am in the UK, so then I took and passed the A2 CofC and GVC to become fully qualified and insured for professional work. I need better quality, but have no money, so bought a second hand mavic 2 zoom for £500 quid and I love it. Now I'm saving up for either a mavic 3 or second hand inspire 2.
I already have a Drone for my business, but I love watching your videos. Your very subtle dark comedic jokes absolutely crack me up. You should do stand up.
Perfect video for me, thank you !!
I am not a dad and I am not looking to buy a drone for mine, but this is the most comprehensive guide to ANYONE wanting to buy one. Too bad I already own the Air 2... 😅
You are hands down the best youtuber in the creative field. So refreshing to watch your videos.
I do have a photo editing course LOL thank you very much as well!
This might be one of best Vids on youtube. handdown incredible
so good bro
Brilliant. Funny. As always. 👍🦘🇦🇺
I like your videos, I am subscribing now.
I am using the Autel 6k Pro and the new Mav3 is not kicking it's ass
Great video! I’m searching to get my very first drone for my birthday, and I’m almost pulling the trigger!
Excellent Video and Excellent Information Alex. Very Well Done. I Just Bought My First Professional Camera Drone, A Brand New Mavic 2 Pro With Smart Controller And Fly More Combo, That Was Never Used By The Owner For $700. I Want To Purchase A Mini 2, and Air 2S. Later On I Will Purchase The Mavic 3. In The Future I Will Be Purchasing Your Course. I Started My Photography Career In 1970. Thank You.
I love this video! So helpful…and so funny and fun , I love your videos. Thanks! You could probably be a good comic,if you wanted to.
I don’t understand…..
i bought my dad a Mini2 for birthday and he just loves it.
Do i get drone pictures and videos now every day? Yes.
Does it bother me? sometimes its annoying.
Was it woth it seeing how happy he is? 100%.
I disagree the Autel 2 Pro is still relevant today. Everyone is running comparisons between the M3 and Evo 2 and in a lot of cases picking the Evo 2 for it's video quality.
Great vid, think I am going to get the Mini 2 as my first drone. What do you think about the EVO II V2 as compared to the others in this vid (for my future after I get over flying anxiety)?
Edit: Specify Mini 2.
You sir are what I've been looking for in RUclips content, straight to the point , informative and funny , keep it up 👍🏾
Of course it's funny to you
Congratulations! It’s positive xD

please more videos
Well done for the re- edit
Had to say the mini 2 doesn’t have sensors around it
@@QuickAssTutorials I know, it was me that mentioned it earlier lol
Me: working with Inspire 2, Mavic 3 and Mavic 2.
Also me: "What's the best drone for a Dad?" - hmm I'm unclear, might as well watch.
Nice video. I have the mini 2 but was planning on get the Air 2S for only the following reasons a) obstacle avoidance b) tracking c) Master shots. Do you think it's a bad idea? Thanks in advance for your opinion!
My advice would be the air 2s or a second hand mavic2 pro (or zoom) The mavic 2 zoom (second hand) is the cheapest option, but still has good obstacle avoidance and a neat "Dolly Zoom" function. The mavic 2 pro and air 2s have the one inch sensor, good obstacle avoidance and better picture and video quality. The mavic 2 pro has a wamer and softer image and is better for cinematography, whereas the air 2s has a crisper colder image. Overall, there is not much to choose between them. The Mavic 2 pro (not zoom) has a variable appature, whereas with the air 2s, you need to land it and change lense filters. The air 2s has the DJI fly app which you will be used to and the same controller, whereas the mavic 2 (zoom and pro) have a smaller controller and the DJI go 4 app. Which I can use well on my iPhone, but will not work on any android device I have tried so far. The mavic 2 (pro and zoom) have separate function wheels on the controller for camera pitch (up-down) and zoom, so you can use both at the same time, so move the camera up or down, whilst zooming in or out, whereas the standard controller for the air2 S combines both in one wheel with the use of a function button. so can only do either pitch up or down, OR zoom. with that one control wheel.
Do you have any preference for filter brands? Noticed you have a lot of Skyreat ones. I have some too, but I’m thinking about paying a little extra and going for Freewell from now on.
There are tutorials online for Mini 2 hyperlapse shooting, yet you say it doesn't do these. Does the 2S do something different for hyperlapse? Absolutely LOVE your vids, btw.
Thanks! The mini 2 has a timed photo feature and you tell it to fly in a certain direction, then you take all the RAW photos into Lightroom and THEN you take those edited photos into adobe premiere to save them as one whole video
The Air 2S just makes the movie for you. Not as high quality though but it’s way easier this way
the dad stuff was a personal attack
Hi buddy i appreciate what you do and it's great and i have a question i live in los angeles and i just got a drone Holy Stone HS710 is this a good drone to stat of my business? and do i really to get a lic for it cause on the description says "Super Lightweight] No need to make FAA registration and effectively reduce your travel burden thanks to the weight control of HS710 drone (Less than 0.55LB). Thanks in advance and you got a new subscriber : )
For the Christmas "newbies" of drones = Please get an education before flying. Even if its 30 mins on Google. Understand the FAA laws BEFORE taking off. Understand how the drone works. Read ALL the instructions. This is the worst time of year for drones. So many people get one with no education and send it up above the clouds from their porch downtown. A little knowledge goes a long way! Merry Christmas and be safe!
I'm pretty sure you can get a mavic mini one for around 200 now, definitely not as good as the Mini too but for people who don't want to spend as much it's an option
Hahaha.. am getting the DJI mini2 this afternoon.. 1st one ever.. I do dable in video and photo Editing. Hobby level.. I'm a dad.. and y we loved them.. I'd say it's different for everyone buy its basic .. its just fun.. Had a Yamaha R1, blew the motor..now wife won't let me get another, I'm not rich so getting a Lambo is outta the question.. I'm not retired so I need something fun . New Hobby that won't break the bank and most importantly will preserve memories of my family for my family.. hopefully they watch whatever I can produce in the future with their kids. And have a laugh..
Only other consideration is wind. Gets pretty windy here in the UK and 19/s vs 15 m/s is a lot nicer lol. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with either
Good video. But in my opinion, I think the Mavic 3 is the quietest of all the drones. I'm coming from the Maverick Platinum which was the second quietest before becoming obsolete.
thanks for the great tutorials. i like riding electric scooters more like land surfing (20-30 mph pace) and i recently started making mini podcasts of 5-15 mins. i thought a drone tht follows me rather than gopro might be cool. after watching your tuorials im between a mini and air 2s. thought id get your opinion since its a feature you dont cover. thanks.
Get the new mini 3
Big fan for a while now. I know you only uses DJI because they're head and shoulders above everything else. I would like to know your opinion on fimi x8se 2022. Specially compared to the mini2. Thanks
It's a bit early to be comparing the X8 SE 2022 to the Mini 2 but each will maintain its strengths. The Mini 2 will always be easier and faster to get airborne, less obtrusive, with less government oversight, and likely a better out-of-camera experience to include an in-app editor. The Fimi will be much better in windy conditions (to include 360 cam carriage) and offers significantly better depth of features to include waypoints, tracking, follow-me, FLog video option and the invaluable Spotlight mode (Smart Track > Lock; effectively locks the gimbal on a POI while you fly manually or allow it to orbit with optional stick override in altitude and radius -- super nice). Neither has obstacle avoidance. Both will exhibit great range and FPV feed. The Mini 2 has a draconian approach to NFZ which can ground the drone despite receiving pilot authorization to fly from regulators (LAANC) leading to missed opportunities (unless you hack it). The Fimi will require more careful setup each time you fly, and there's no guarantee that Fimi will be able to correct any problems with camera firmware. It's looking pretty good in early reviews (only a magenta shift in the highlights) but with cold weather approaching (causing blurred lens with the old 2020) it could be March 2022 before we can say with confidence that the FImi is on par or superior in camera performance.
I bought his A-Z course 😁👍
INCREDIKAD its you!
jk no idea who this is
Hello Alex! Thanks for your sharing! Would it be possible for you to review our Holy Stone drone?
you know what Jana Peng, Holy Stone has asked me so many time that yes I will review your holystone drone, send me one. email alexharris52@gmail.com
So get the mini 2 over the mavic air 2 when it comes to use?
What do you think of the Mini SE?
Do you have pay courses on how to edit video and use light room?
What do you think about the Dji mini se? It’s $300 but only shoots up to 2.7k?
what nd filter do you usually use? im planning to buy one for my mini 2 but only have a budget for only 1 nd filter, what do you recommend me getting?
The 16ND is on pretty much all the time. It came with the fly more combo when i bought it, but you could just get one off Amazon. They come in packs though, they don’t usually sell them on their own. You want 16ND - not the 16ND-PL which is the polarized version which makes things look a little funny
Can the Mini 2 produce video good enough to still be accepted as stock footage at Adobe Stock or Pond 5?
Okay, I backpack. So, the Mini is the drone I plan to use. I don’t need it until March. So, do I wait for the 3 (or 2S or whatever) of just get the Mini 2 and start getting acquainted. I have some experience and a Part 107 license. Thanks!
We would hear leaks about it if there was a Mini 3 on the way, usually we have a two month lead but April seems to be a good month to come out with a new drone if they were planning on one
Also the mini 3 if it is even a thing, won’t be a big step up. They already cashed in their good features on this drone.
You’ll also be waiting for the mini 4 if the mini 3 comes out, just get a drone
@@QuickAssTutorials exactly.
@@QuickAssTutorials thanks! This is a big help. I’m enjoying your videos. Looking to take one of your courses after hiking season!
0:11 LOL is that the parrot anafi?... it is!
That was supposed to be an excellent competitor against dji drones.... but they got so fed up with dealing with the consumer drone Market they bounced after this had so many errors
Air 2 S or Mini 3 ? (if shooting professional on a £1000 budget)
what do you think about getting the pro 2 used for under 1000??
The M2Pro is still relevant but requires some skill/experience in post-production due to the required lens-distortion correction in Full-FOV mode. HQ mode is a lossless digital zoom but the dynamic range drops to that of a good 1/2" sensor. Photos will be on par with the M3. It's also looking like the M2 platform will maintain the edge in pro-level camera controls and cinematic flight modes such as Waypoints, Course-Lock, Tap-Fly, etc.
for me, it entirely depends on your budget. If you can afford an M3 get an M3. If not go for the M2 pro. This is why I have just got an M2 zoom. The M2 pro, even second hand, was just outside my budget.
Mini 2 or die for the average consumer. for photo pros sure, yeah, whatever. but think, if every dad had an inspire in the sky... the drone laws that would come down on us 107s... my condolences.
nice vids and pics but yyou prob get your drones sent you so can use any most like me have one mavic mini and had to save up for that dont forget the smaller one can fly in more spaces than the larger ones hence why most buy buy mavic min 1 2 or 3
He will crap his pants of excitement and he wont be able to sleep for a week. 😂
My Mini will not fly anything close to five miles away. I wish it did though. Not shit talking, I like the channel and the videos but I was surprised to hear you say that.
Mini 2
Mini 1 is over wifi it gets choked up behind trees
It is illegal to fly it that far away anyway, without BVLOS certification. I cannot even see my mini2 beyond 250 yards away. Even less on an overcast day, glance down at the screen, back up and ..... Oh shoot! Where is it????
Why do Dads like drones? Because Dads love toys!
Hey what about Moms?
It is a little amazing to me that our friend, Alex is not speaking 500 words or more a minute😂 I hope you are ok Buddy!
I’m on a lot of horse tranquilizers
@@QuickAssTutorials nice! a little Xmas fun!🤙
Drone buying guide, let's see which drones do we have.
DJI
DJI
DJI
DJI
AUTEL.
Not sponsored!!! 🤣
Ah 00:55 Parrot Anafi IS NOT A TOY still, way better than a lot of today's drones.
02:16 Parrot Anafi shoots 21mp photos HDR and ZOOM capability also we can look 90° upwards now what drone can do that!
The anafi is legit it’s just the price of an Air 2 so I didn’t want to lump it in here, it’s also just easier to find other DJI people and support online for a product that most people use
Im a mum interested in a drone :) Wish I'd seen this (forward thinking haha) before purchasing a "toy" drone to see if I could control it ok. I failed at the toy, it was dire hahaha. I am so interested in air2, compact and seems pretty easy to operate as a new user :) I do a lot of photography and wanted to expand for different perspectives, and am looking into all the information possible before investing. Your channel is proving perfect for info - its interesting and you demonstrate which helps a lot. Thank you.
go with the Air 2S its the same size as the air 2 but with a bigger sensor ( better for Photo and Video) and better collition avoidance and check for the fly more pack for extra batteries . Also read up on drone regulations in your country you might need some paperwork done to be on the "leagal" side
Reupload? I'll watch again.
Big caveat: these drones absolutely will take off where it's illegal. Know your airspace, it's your responsibility as a drone operator.
I had to fix that the Mini 2 doesn’t have collision sensors around It
@@QuickAssTutorials I live in a large chunk of air space where the DJI apps absolutely will let you fly, even though the FAA requires you to be part 107 with an active waiver to fly. I wish DJI would cut a deal with the FAA
I live in an FRZ (local airport and the nearby defence establishment) but I can take off when inside my house (I only fly inside the FRZ indoors in my house, for a minute or two for testing purposes, when I update the firmware and check the drone still flies.) The app gives me a warning, but lets me fly.
@@onbob6056 I live near VPS and can freely take off with very little issue. We call the zone the eglin hate penis, if you go to the faa facility maps you'll understand why. Some areas they really got it correct, some areas they got very wrong.
Honestly don't like his delivery but the info he is saying is spot on. I've been flying drones for a couple years still have the mavic pro.
This video fails so hard within the first 15 seconds.!
