    Love this case so much! You actually got me into itx PCs and was gonna build an ncase until I saw your formd t1 video! Two years later, I finally built my first ever custom pc/itx pc with the v2 sandwhich. It definitely feels satisfying (and exhausting) to finish building in this case. And that power button on the front panel is just cherry on top. Feels very satisfying too

    Happy to finally see this review live!
    The T1 Sandwich is a great case, hope to see a build of yours with an AIO or custom loop in it soon.
    The reference does have worse temperatures, but you can squeeze in a couple more fans to help with temperatures, and it does save a bit of money.
    The reference should also be able to fit a 280mm AIO, whereas the sandwich can only do 280 rads as part of a custom loop. The sandwich can now do a 240 + 280 rad for a custom loop.
    Sandwich can also do 2 25mm fans on a TX240 now, as there is 46mm above the motherboard. For standard AIO rads (27mm) you do still need a slim fan. I personally run 1 A12x15 and a T30 above the PSU.
    There's also two PSU mounting options, standard one you showed off, as well as an alternative 90° mount. The second one allows for some really clean custom cables.
    You can fit something crazy like a 64 core epyc in there too with ASRock's Deep ITX motherboard.

      I wish Formd made a nice compact ATX mid tower, but with the same great build quality and design as something like this. I will never go SFF due to higher noise, SFX psu, etc so I would love something like this if it was bigger

    • @logirex
      @logirex Год назад +6

      I will never understand these chassis myself. It will cost more than an equivalent standard midi tower, it will run hoter and perform worse and likely due to heat push fan speed higher. For instance a reference RTX 3080 in a good standard chassi will run 100-200MHz higher in clock speed and obviously similiar results for the processor.
      Then you can't add more drives for mass storage and you are limited in gpu size and a million other limitations.
      The only reason for a chassi like this is if you live in a cupboard or think it looks "cool" 🤦‍♂

    You mentioned the GPU, but have you tried under-volting your 5800X3D? Mine was completely stable with a -30 all core under-volt, which seems common (maybe because of the lower clocks compared to 5800X?). Using this in my SW, I was able to prevent hitting that 90C cap while running Cinebench. It's surprising to me how well the L12S + top exhaust stacks up against the larger C14.

    Sandwitch layout really is very very good because of the perforated side panels. My 3070 in the T1 1.2 runs cooler than my friends in a corsair 4000d. Just be sure to have some kinda data vac because they suck in a ton of dust, even on a clean desk.

  • @Alauz
    @Alauz Год назад +1

    That's an awesome look at the Formd T1, I did not know there was a reference layout. It looks like it will benefit the custom 3 fan coolers instead of the reference card's front and back fans which would be partially blocked in that configuration.
    Can you experiment with a "top-hat" mod with the reference layout with a 4 slot 3090Ti with custom cooler? Because if you are able to do that, I will buy the Formd T1 to build an insane Zen4X3D and 4090 ITX build. It's basically impossible with the standardized ITX cases at the moment.

    I would be interested how an aio would perform in the reference since the radiator block would not allow that hot air gets recycled within the case (like the C4S does). It may just suck in hot air from the gpu from the outside of the case but how much is the question when the gpu is on the top (and not a flow through card)? Would the reference perform better? 🤔

    Your builds are so clean. I love that you, like me, are an ITX guy. I use a 10.8 liter case that I've built 4 different ITX rigs in. I know these massive ITX cases like the NR200 & NR200P are popular but they are dramatically larger than a lot of ITX builders want.
    While I complain about ITX having fewer options for PSUs and Motherboards, it all disappears when anyone sees my tiny ITX and wishes they had my computer. My ITX sits unnoticed behind one of my monitors. It's half the volume of an NR200. Now the trick for me is getting a beast of a GPU into my next build. This Formd T1 case is great but I hate spending $200-$250 on a case. The margins these manufacturers are making at these prices is just obnoxious. The case probably costs about $40 to build if they are in low volume. Add $5 for packaging. $10 for shipping. And you get an idea of their actual cost to build & ship the case.

    SilverStone RVZ03 is still my all time favorite! It is the only CONSOLE SIZED case out there, that actually has good air cooling!

      Your build has no GPU and relies on just an APU. Thats considered cheating. In fact your build is actually extremely large for an APU build lol

    I'm curious if the cooling would be even better on the sandwich layout with taller feet. The bottom vents are pretty restricted.

      I'm also curious what performance would be of the reference case if you had a traditional GPU cooler design with side exhaust. And maybe a noctua fan swap to get some better overall airflow

      I have a ghost s1 and the different between the standard feet and some 3d printed feet I have around 3cm in high along with a 25x125 fan set to exhaust my temps dropped around 3 degrees- plus over all case temp had a significant decline.

      @@moel481 That sounds worthwhile to me. Didn't OptimumTech use 3d printed feet on one of the earlier NCASE M1 revisions too?

      There is some testing on the discord that shows the GPU on top layout is pretty much the best unless you have some long af case feet.

    You should do a dual rad build in the T1 V2, that would be cool.

    I loved my T1 v1.1 but it isn't without its flaws, major ones being not enough clearance between mb and gpu backplate, gaps between panels that don't sit flush, random beveled corners in the front interfering with radiator ports, not being able to fit full size fans with TX240 without sanding, not to mention minor ones like anodizing inconsistencies and flaking paint jobs.
    Also feeling kinda burned when all the promises for accessories and parts never came. Well they came but only for the v2 which isn't compatible with v1 users, and they're still constantly oos.
    I was originally quite put off when Jimu came in with their D+ which is practically a T1 clone, but with their v2 it looks like they really improved upon the design so much they practically reinvented it. If I make up my mind to replace my T1 I'm leaning towards getting this.

    Ali - would you consider attempting a dual rad setup in the new formd t1? I remember your previous setup, but it looks like the new version may allow for some wild stuff, especially with a slim waterblock. If it worked out we could have a legitmate M1 replacement on our hands imo.
