🤘 Rock Stars We Lost Too Soon | Cause of Death of RockStars

- Dead rock stars, ranked in order of how much potential great music was lost to this world by their untimely passing. The key criteria for this list is to guess "how much greatness they left behind" - in other words, it would be very difficult to justify, for example, Syd Barrett on this list, because although he is a dead rockstar, he died long after he had stopped making music at all. Similarly, although Elvis Presley died an untimely early death, if you were equally a fan of Kurt Cobain and Elvis Presley, you would only rank them equally if you thought Elvis's post-77 output would equal Cobain's post-'94 output.

Correction: Freddy Mercury died from complications of pneumonia related to AIDS. RIP Freddy!
Still pneumonia nonetheless. And besides, he can't fit that in there.
@@Theprophet3928 Then the truth should be there.... AIDS...
@@Theprophet3928 A person comes into the emergency room half torn apart from a car wreck... They do what they can, but the person coughs and sneezes and dies... so the person died from a cold? LYING does NO one any good....
They adjusted the causes to their likings.
There is no such thing as a Heroin overdose; it is a overdose doesn’t matter how much you take. Don’t even think about saying I am wrong. Only a fool will use it.
Just say “complications from AIDS” instead of hiding behind the “pneumonia” bullshit.
So many great musicians are unfortunately missing :
- Dave Greenfield and Jet Black from The Stranglers,
- Andrew Fletcher from Depeche Mode,
- Pete Burns from Dead or Alive,
- Billy Paul,
- Tina Turner,
- Aretha Franklin,
- Johnny Clegg,
- Dolores O' Riordan from The Cranberries,
- Manu Dibango,
- Donna Summer,
- Maurice White from Earth Wind and Fire,
- Bobby Farrell from Boney M.,
- Whitney Houston,
- Mark Hollis from Talk Talk,
- Greg Ham from Men at Work,
- Robert Palmer,
- Sinead O' Connor,

and many more... 😢 RIP
Eddie Van Halen, Jeff Beck, Greg Lake, Keith Emerson, John Wetton, Leslie West, Randy California, John Entwistle, Keith Moon, Ginger Baker, Lowell George, Ronnie Montrose, David Byron, Gary Thain....to mention some of the many missing musicians
Glad you mentioned Randy California and Gary Thain. plus ... Neil Peart, Alwin Lee, Felix Pappalardi, Tony McPhee, Jaki Liebezeit, Holger Czukay ...
Ken Hensley and Lee Kerslake of Uriah Heep
Moon and Entwistle are on the list.
Frank Zappa he gave me a,ride home when he found I had hitch hiked to his gig!,great memories
Randy Rhoades
Dimebag was MURDERED. He didn't die in a "Shootout."
Yeah, that pissed me off.
Came to say the same thing. It was a local venue and I was supposed to go to the concert but ended up having to work.
I've played there many times Alrosa VIlla..and you are correct he was ambushed while playing. Having grown up in Columbus, that murder was the end of Alrosa, and our city has suffered also, we no longer get big acts that normally come through from Pitts, indianapolis, Cleveland and Cincy...now they will go to Dayton or just skip this whole area altogether.
Also is torn down now...as I stated that was the beginning of the end for that place where I have tons of memories of playing there and concerts I saw there...Montrose, Trower, Holdsworth, Tubes Kreator, Mercyful Fate....
@@nasticanasta yeah, I moved a half mile away from there in ‘08 and the perking lot was never full except for one time when suicidal tendencies played there. I wanted to go so bad but just couldn’t do it. Shine down was the last concert I saw there. It was like a week or two before Damage Plan played. A friend and I were going to go but like I said I had to work and he did too. Now it’s apartments, although housing is much needed in the area, a part of me wishes the Alrosa was still there. I miss hearing Rick on the radio like when I was a kid. It always seemed like shock too and saddleback shark were always playing. lol.
I know the music seems to skip us now, except for rock on the range or what ever it is now.
I was thinking about all the music deaths we have had in, leaving and in the way to Columbus or surrounding areas. The bands probably think the town is cursed.
What band(s) were you in? Your RUclips handle sounds really familiar, do you go by that anywhere else?
And yet Keith Richards is still alive and rockin' as we speak
Drugs have pickled all his organs 😂😂
K Richards has been dead for over 35 years... He just doesn't realize it... Not even a real guitar player...
@@1956tojoThe dumbass strikes again...
I have been saying for many years if he outlives me I will be pissed
So is Mick Jagger
No mention of Jon Lord, one of the greatest rock keyboard ist and composer.
DEEP PURPLE LEGEND
Ronnie van Zant died in a plane crash, that's where he got the head trauma.just thought you should know.
With the drugs and alcohol that went through most of these people, a lot were fortunate to live as long as they did!
Didn't realize that Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby were rock stars. 😅
George Jones and Merle Haggard are questionable as well… (as rockers).. Giants in the country music industry for sure!!!!
Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby hated Rock 'N'Roll and were not rock singers.
@@user-dr2yc1de9ebut they were teenage idols in their days.
Or Andy Williams either. Close to half the people on this list were nowhere near rock stars.
@@glennso47 Which doesn't make them rock stars.
Meatloaf is missing....
Sinead O'Connor, Dolores O'Riordan and Olivia Newton John?
It says Rockstars in the title, not popstars…
@@nondesperado Ok bro
Olivia aint rock
No Eddie Van Halen, Lemmy, Malcolm Young, Dusty Hill, Clive Burr, Criss Oliva?
This is a very biased list... Half these people have never been heard of before but yet all these insignificant people somehow get on there... and I myself could replace at least 20 of these that you never heard of with actual famous people and with legends as well...
Linda McCartney is on here but not Eddie VanHalen... Most influential guitarist since Hendrix.
The description says it is about artist who died before they stopped making original music. I don't think Eddie Van Halen, Lemmy were making any new music for a long time before their deaths. Eddie was just playing classics with Roth on a series of tours.
David Crosby is missing! Hes one of my favorites. Neil Peart the drummer from Rush too!! 😢flowers🎉
And Robbin Crosby
Missing Greg Lake and Keith Emerson, Lake was cancer and Emerson was suicide.
Yeah, and they died the same year: 2016. Same year as David Bowie, George Michael (died Christmas Day), and Prince.
And another progressive rock giant, John Wetton, dead from colorectal cancer.
@@The_Fat_Controller. My point was the musicians I listed all died in 2016. John Wetton died in 2017.
世間はプログロックに冷たい
@@The_Fat_Controller. King Crimson was somewhat giant, but never heard of your John Wetton until I researched him.... That's why they should have had a line with the band you could relate them to... There have been 20 different people in King Crimson....
…Jaco Pastorius was Beaten to Death by a nightclub bouncer in Florida…
Make no mistake about it Jaco Pastorius was murdered
We want Lemmy
How can Eddie Van Halen be left out?
Pure ignorance and or bias.... Just look at the insignificant people on here...
When was Eddie's last original hit song before his death? We may have missed out on more reunion tours of classic hits, but he wasn't producing any new hit material.
Francis Vincent Zappa - an American Composer. So many great quotes. "Music is the best."
The loss of rock stars remains a somber chapter in music history. Exploring the causes of their premature deaths serves as a poignant reminder of the struggles many faced. As we reflect on their legacies, it's a testament to the enduring impact of their music and the need for awareness around mental health challenges within the industry.
When you put whatever in your body just because you have talent! Please! Mental issues ? I had a friend once who told me that when you’re an entertainer that they are ways your expected to behave ! Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll !
Artists should not be forced to commit negative behaviors. Sometimes, extraordinary challenges and pressures can lead to psychological and substance use problems. Most importantly, we need to understand that each artist is a unique and diverse individual. Support and understanding are more important than judgment or unfair expectations.@@melvinhunt6976
MOST OF THE ROCK STARS DEATHS ARE 90% DRUG OVERDOSE OR ALCHOLIC ABUSE.
Ray Thomas, flautist for Moody Blues. He should definitely be on this list.
I don't think 70's & 80 year olds could be classed as 'we lost too soon'!
Agreed.
People who don't get cancer or heart disease should live to 85 years old. That is real statistics. Age is relevant. A 40 year old is very old to a 21 year old
Exactly 😂
You will when you are 79!!
True, whether or not they still had enough creativity to show.
Thank You for Remembering Tommy Bolin. It was nice to see him.
There sure were a lot of deaths resulting in plane crashes.
Absolutely nothing to see hear move along now.
Left out Eddie Van Halen, Charlie Watts, Mike Nesmith and Peter Tork.
Where's Eddie Van Halen and Robbin Crosby of Ratt?!
BOWIE lives FOREVER.
Except that he doesn’t.
@@glennso47Every great does.
BROTHERS JEFF PORCARO AND MIKE PORCARO - TOTO !!!!!
A lot of the singers and musicians died to
soon ,but what is particularly disturbing
is the amount of people who died in
plane accidents .
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Bee Gees and Ramones both lost three that is sad
Noel Redding, Alan (Blind Owl) Wilson, Bob Hite, Denny Laine, Stuart Sutcliffe, Dave Dee, Trevor Ward Davies (Dozy), Rick Parfitt, Johnny Kidd
CHRIS SQUIRE - YES !!!!!
Keith Emerson !! 😢😢😢
... and Greg Lake. 😮💨
It was good to see Terry Kath and Jaco Pastorius, arguably the best at what they did but seldom given their due, included in your list. I may have missed them but I would have loved to see Dino Danelli and Noel Redding's names there too. Thanks for all the research you must have done to make this video.
John Lennon - English musician. Wasn't he in the Beatles or something?
By saying English musician I think they are meaning it at a person from England and yes he was in the Beatles before going solo just like Paul McCartney and Ringo Star.
@@leestashaw1753and George Harrison as well.
Ha ha
No he was in the weagles
Wasn't he in the Beetles?
Forgot Randy California, Drowned while trying to save his 12yo son from a rip tide in Hawaii!
Allen Lanier (1946-2013) keyboards and guitar. Founding member of Blue Oyster Cult.
Ok this Has a Few Drummers ....But How Come Neil Peart is not on there
I know! He damn well should be! Best drummer ever! I saw Rush many times! He had brain cancer 😔 we miss you alot Neil! 💐 he was a brilliant man to come up with the lyrics that he did!
Dimebag Darrell was MURDERED, there WAS no "shootout".....
And why did Randy Rhoads die by plane crash but Ronnie Van Zant did not? Marvin Gaye was killed/shot by his Dad... Why is Prince listed as "accidental" overdose when 99% of the OTHER overdoses on this list didn't do it on purpose? Kurt Cobain shot himself just say it.
81 is above the average life expectancy
No Jack Bruce🎸or Ginger Baker 🪘from Cream.. shame on you
Rip everyone of them 😢 🙏 they were all great musicians 🎉
Great compilation but not sure about the "to soon" angle, since quite a few where +75 when passing
Rob Grill lead singer and bass player for the Grassroots.
Thank you for the music 🎶, now rest in peace 😢✌ 🙏 😔.
I suppose 78 is not “too soon” but Jeff Beck was still performing at a high level just 2 months before he succumbed to bacterial meningitis
Why isn't Malcolm Young, Lemmy, Phil Taylor, Eddie Clarke on here?
Saw Dimebag Darrel but not his brother Vinnie Paul
Da que pensar la baja esperanza de vida entre los músicos, sobre todo en los del Rock. Tienen un índice de muerte prematura absolutamente increíble. Muy pocos llegan a ancianos.
not necessarily
GUITARIST GARY RICHRATH FROM REO SPEEDWAGON !!!!!
Don't forget Keith Emerson (ELP), Greg Lake (ELP), Kevin Ayers (Soft Machine), Peter Bardens (Camel), Ray Thomas (The Moody Blues), Eric Woolfson (The Alan Parsons Project), Peter Banks (Yes), Alex Harvey (The Sensational Alex Harvey Band), John Wetton (King Crimson, Asia)? Just to name a few. I have faith that you will do a revamp of your list one day, and that you will check this comment section.
Add Dusty Springfield
to the list and Melanie just passed away recently. Four members of the Dave Clark 5, as well.
Freddie Mercury died from bronchial pneumonia caused by aids. The last time I said this, some one got offended.
They got offended by you saying that?? People have "wimpy" ears nowadays! They are so easily offended! That's ridiculous!
The cause doesn't matter.
Aids was the reason he got bronchial pneumonia so he died of Aids related complications.
Его залечили от неверно поставленного диагноза. Он умер от сильнотоксичной терапии.
Yes Freddie Mercury died of Aids as did Dan Hartman I had two childhood friends Die of Aids they are great people It's not about how they died but how they lived and what they meant to our lives bringing great JOY
Just goes to show, Keith Richards is from another planet.
😂
Title is wrong because many of them didn´t do rock at all like Sinatra (so you could also include Whitney Huston). And so many plane crashes vs. almost no car accidents.
Brian Connolly from Sweet (1945-1997) aged 51, died from kidney failure
😭😭
The list is almost complete. But I don't want to bother you. You made a good job. Congratulations.
Sadly, many of these workaholic folks did not take time off to seek medical help, nutrition advice, and rest. And doing these late night concerts nonstop eventually takes a toll on mind and body. May they all R.I.P.
...when you've realized that you've outlived your heroes & that they were wrong & you were right....
Missed Dan Fogelberg (1950-2007)
Prostate cancer
Luther Vandross had a stroke back in 2003 if I remember he never fully recovered from having that stroke. I don’t recall him having a heart attack.
I think Neil Peart should be mentioned
It's funny that Sid Vicious gets mentioned as a Bassist when he actually couldn't play the instrument.
He could do 3 notes what do you mean

I will never get over David Bowie only being 69. His whole life was in front of him.
Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper died in the same plane crash in 1959. The day that music died
E avete dimenticato Greg Lake(Elp),e soprattutto Chris Squire e Alan White degli Yes
Some of the people were heavy drinkers or drug users but you make it seem as though all those heart attacks and liver failures were without cause.
Even Keith Emerson's suicide was fundamentally due to alcoholism.
You listed Benjamin Orr from The Cars but not Ric Ocasek, who passed away in 2019 from Cardiovascular disease. He was 75 years old, but still working as producer, and artist, as well as his own solo material. He had just released a new Cars album in 2011, and was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame where he performed with the other members of The Cars in 2018.
OMG so many died so young, usually from alcohol and drugs! We have been robbed of their talents because of substance abuse. Still it continues. Now it's fentanol! People never seem to learn.😢
Jim Morrison of The Doors died from a heroin overdose.
Several people including the late singer Marianne Faithful and former girlfriend of Mick Jagger said much later through the years what really happened to Jim in a Paris nightclub on
July 3,1971.
Jim most likely thought he was snorting cocaine or maybe just didn't care and he collapsed right there in the club.
Jim was taken to his flat (housing) and put in a bathtub in an effort to revive him.
No autopsy was ever performed due to the weekend or a holiday festival taking place.
Jim was clearly on his way out of this world anyways from the constant drinking and had been warned by doctor's as early as 1968 to quit drinking but Jim didn't take heed.
The Poet and Singer JAMES MARSHALL MORRISON death is still very tragic more than 54 years later (July of this year).
Marianne Faithfull is still alive

Really ? I'm not saying this in a bad way I just didn't know.
It would be nice to add band names too, some of us know the bands but not band members by names.
No mention of Jeff Hanneman from Slayer. Died in 2013 from cirrhosis
WHAT NO LEMMY ???
We lost all the members of Motorhead.
And don't forget Bambi Fossati: the italian Jimi Hendrix (1949 - 2014)
Iggy Pop still rockin!
All I can say is how sad to lose so many so young. May they all rock out in heaven. God bless and rest in peace.
The song by the Righteous Brothers. “If there’s a rock and roll heaven then you know they’ve got a hell of a band “
Frank Sinatra, a rock star ? 😆
Many didn’t make the list; Chris Squire, David Byron, Gary Thain, etc,
Why, wasn't Dan fogelberg mentioned?
Man, I always thought Jeff Buckley died from an overdose. That man had a golden voice. RIP Jeff.
Scary that most of these deaths were preventable ! Especcially smoking -drinking and drug abuse ! 😢

Gary Wright passed this year. RIP

You really dropped the ball in leaving out Eddie Van Halen.
No Randy Castillo, Robbin Crosby, Ray Gillen, Kevin DuBrow, Frankie Banali, Mike Starr, Gar Samuelson
You missed a lot of people as pointed out. Two others: James Honeyman-Scott (guitarist) and Pete Farndon (bassist) of The Pretenders and the guys from Badfinger, probably the two most tragic cases of bands in Rock.
I stand corrected on Pete Ham of Badfinger.
No Lemmy Kilmister,Clive Burr ?
Interesting illustrations of the cause of death.
That Jaco Pastorius died of brain hemorrhage is clinically correct, he in fact sustained his injuries from a bouncer. In short, he was beaten to death.
Number 43 ~ Michael Hutchence ~ Wasn't suicide by hanging, it was engaging in auto-erotic asphyxia, while fairly drunk / drugged. It was an accidental death caused by playing dangerous sexual games while stoned.
Really? I always thought it was a suicide.
@@LadyHeathersLair ~ Well, it's open to some interpretation, but I think Mr Hutchence was living the life every man dreams of. There was a list of the 20 most beautiful, most desirable women in the world, and Michael Hutchence was banging at least 12 or 13 of them on a semi regular basis. His musical was going strength to strength. What EARTHLY reason did he have to kill himself?
He was due to bang Kim Wilde that night. (We're the kids in America.) She showed up, they talked for maybe 3 or 4 minutes, and she formed the opinion he was a little too drunk / stoned to be at his best, so she left again. So they quizzed her in the coroner's court. She told them the word was out, among the most beautiful women, that Michael Hutchence was as good in bed as he looked and acted like, and the experience was one to be savoured ~ as long as he has sober or nearly sober, but once he got half way drunk or stoned, the quality of the experience dropped very sharply, and you definitely didn't want to be near him when he was right off his tree. So when he rang and asked you over, you'd rush to get there, but then spend 10 minutes or so stalling and small-talking, and trying to figure out how straight or bent he was. She figured he was slightly too bent on that occasion, and left. In the morning, they found him dead, strangled in the act of auto-erotic asphyxia.
I believe the official finding was death by Miss Adventure. Perhaps you could call that suicide, but it was suicide by accident. He was responsible for his own death, yes, but that's not what he was trying to achieve.
@@LadyHeathersLairnah it was the good old asphyxy-wank
I watched a documentary recently that said he really died by suicide (by hanging), and that the auto-erotic asphyxia story was incorrect.
@@kaymuldoon3575 - Possibly true. Let's say it's open to interpretation. My view, he was living the life everybody dreams of living. Why on Earth would he choose to deliberately end it? Don't know, I wasn't there. I just think accidental death (death by Miss Adventure) sounds a lot more likely. My memory of the coroner's inquest is a bit hazy, but I do recall there was some debate about this question at the time. What I do remember clearly, is Kim Wilde telling the court that he was sleeping with half the people we'd call Super Models at the time, including her.
Oh I don't have to finish watching this to know You forgot Peter Green.
Although he was indeed involved in a multi-vehicle collision, Harry Chapin may have actually died of a heart attack (similar to what happened to MMRS). Chapin was in fact, stricken with a suspected heart attack, but they were never able to determine if it happened before, during, or after the accident. Then again, he would've likely been killed anyway since the collision involved a big rig that either Chapin hit from behind, or he was hit from behind by the truck.
