The Tragic History of Korn

  • Korn pioneered the nu metal wave of the late nineties and early two thousands, though their innovation was almost overshadowed by their self destructive ways. This is the tragic history of Korn, and their subsequent road to redemption.

I didn't understand why I loved Korn so much as a teenager. People around me wrote them off as "Devil Music." They wrote me off as some Goth kid with a bad attitude. But the music spoke to my soul. As someone who was bullied, abused physically and sexually, I can say there's more to the draw of metal. They helped me survive some painful and dangerous times in my upbringing. I have found my faith, just like some members of the band. The holy spririt is real. Just because I was born into a terrible situation: it didn't mean I had to STAY THERE.

I felt validated in my pain through them. My older brother was also severely abused by the same family member that abused me. He helped me get out of that abusive household. He literally saved my life.
He turned to alcohol and drugs to cope with his severe trauma and mental health issues. I lost him back in March of this year due to alcohol poisoning and my heart still hurts that he’s gone. He was only 39. I have his ashes with me now. I want to hold a memorial for him next weekend since it will be his 40th birthday. I’m going to play Korn in his memory. I love you Michael. The music from this band helped me work through my own personal trauma and abuse as a youngster. Knowing that I wasn't alone no matter how lonely I felt, gave me strength to keep living and overcome the obstacles that my mind created. Korn and Linkin Park both helped me to fight through the anger, misery and self loathing that comes form being abused and being called a liar when you reach out for help. Its massive and destructive how kids seek for help from the people who say that's what they are there for, only for them to beat you down more and hand you over to the abuse again. I'm grateful they are still making music.

Sure i enjoyed all them but KORN and TYPE O NEGATIVE really sat in my stereo., now korn made me part of their cds made me feel like they were speaking to me. At age 12 i won untouchables off a radio station, i had to have my mother get it for me. To this day i have that cd un opened i mowed lawns to get another one so i could put it up. When i start feeling iffy and down i always put on Korn Or type o. Tbh at age 28 with not one tattoo Korn may be put on my skin as a reminder of the tough times it really helped me through Followed by Type O. I really cant wait for this new album to come out i just know John is going to put everything he has into it.

I saw them in Vegas for FTL20 and it’s amazing how they have matured their sound on every single album. Missing a lot of stuff
    Stuff like
The song “kill you “ on they’re second album life is peachy was another emotional song that make Jonathan and his band, band crew and friends cry
See you on the other side was the first korn album to not have head
Untitled album both have David and head not on it
2008 Jonathan almost died from a blood disease.
There was some kind of drama between korn and head when head made his book save me from myself

I remember Korn growing up. Their albums helped a lot of young people and adults. Just knowing that they were not alone in some events they experienced. I know their music helped me and the nostalgia with it now, it has changed how I look at those moments. I can say that I am stronger going through hard times, and to be humble and kind moving forward. Hope these dudes are doing well.

The thing for me with Fieldy and Head, is that I still genuinely don't feel a connection with any sort of organized religion, but their experiences of redemption and finding Christ/God/whatever it is for them (I don't mean this disrespectfully, I genuinely grew up non-religious and just am not familiar with how Christianity works) still give me chills. I may not get it, but they do, and their experiences in life are as real as mine. Truly inspirational stuff, even for a non-believer. Perhaps *especially* for a non-believer.

If you read Head's autobiography, Save Me From Myself, he talks about having sex with women who want to be choked and abused, and how wrong it felt...i can identify with that...its just something you go along with to get what you want, which may be much of life, doesn't make it right...quite honestly i'm ashamed of it, but i agree i was raised religious and taught that goodness is manifest in the human heart...we all know whats right and wrong, whether we read a book or not

She eventually admitted to our mom what had happened after another one of her friends rpd me. She was there every time it happened yet claimed she had no idea it was happening. The first was a girl who did it from when i was 5 til 9. The guy was when i was 12

This is so incredibly well done. Korn is one of those bands that was blowing up right as i was coming of age, so to speak. One of the best concerts i ever went to was during the summer of 2000. Papa Roach opened, and this was like, 4 months after "Last Resort" dropped. After PR came Powerman 5000, and then Korn (of course) headlined. Amazing show..
The self titled, Follow the Leader, and Issues CDs are still in my huge CD book...... you know, the MASSIVE book of CDs that everyone had! Kids today will never know.... lol

I was hooked on korn since 94, i was in elementary school when i found their 1st album in my older sister's room. They were all i listened to, every album over and over again all the way up to the "take a look in the mirror" record. That was the last one i bought. I began to branch out, listen to other music, then all music and eventually creating my own. There was a special love i had for korn, they hold a place that's so nostalgic in my heart. Sometimes i still listen to old songs, and feel exactly how they used to make me feel
