- Giving out the title of best frontman in rock is like crowning someone the king of rock and roll. There are so many factors that go into deciding the greatest front man (or woman) in rock that dubbing just one the head of all rock royalty seems nearly impossible. And yet, like the Highlander, there can be only one.
What makes a lead singer the best frontman in classic rock? Is it the rock singer with the best stage presence, or does being the front man of the best live band in rock history automatically propel you to the top of the list of the best frontmen in rock? Does being one of the greatest singers of all time get you the title of greatest frontman? How about being a famous enough rock star to rack up multiple Rolling Stone cover photos? That's up to the music-loving masses to vote on.

No in that case Tyson is just trying to give context by comparing things to something people can understand . People do the same when the compare something to football fields or the weight of X amount of cars or as tall as X amount of Empire state buildings. It's pretty a common way to help people conceptualize a size.
In this case it's a failure to use the most appropriate unit of measurement. And in te case of the video they use the most appropriate unit but but use a smaller unit when they are already using the lager unit. Normally when you use a unit you use that unit until you run its maxed out then go to the next smaller one, either ft to inches or ft to a decimal would make sense. But throwing in inches when you still have enough to make another foot is weird. Or using months when you have multiple years is weird.
I'll say this, I have heard athletes, especially basketball players say thing like he's 6 ft 14, but that is just a joke to imply he plays like a smaller quicker guy, with speed and skill rather than a lumber giant.

It's something how there are so many very short frontmen. Men under 5' 7" are fairly uncommon, generally. Maybe there's a Napoleon Complex that gets these guys to want to prove themselves or control perceptions. Lots of very short male actors, too.

Yep, Ronnie James Dio was a little guy, but a very gracious man with huge talent. I met Dio in person at an autograph session in 1984, not only did he give me his autograph, but I asked to take a picture with him, and he nicely obliged. I remember he got out of his chair, stood next to me, and the picture was taken. I still have the photo to this day. RIP to Ronnie James Dio. Arguably the best Rock singer ever.

Chuck Berry was very tall and had HUGE hands. Shook his hand after one of the 5 times I saw him play live and his fingers were like tentacles.
I've met Chuck. He's about 6'1" - 6'2". I also shook his hand and the other commenter is right: huge hands. He also refused my request for an autograph. 'Naw man, I only sign autographs for chicks.' LOL, true story. And the story is better than the autograph. This list mentions Brad Delp who was more like 5'11" but doesn't mention who by far is the tallest musician I've ever met: Tom Scholz. Despite all of the bad things I've heard about Tom, he couldn't have been nicer. I would say he's about 6'6".

As I mentioned in another comment, this list is way off. I knew Brad Delp and he was no 5'6" - more like 5'11". I've met Peter Wolf a number of times and he's not 5'11". He is more like 6'1" - 6'2".

Ronnie was about 5'5" and looked even shorter on stage. Allen Collins, Leon Wilkerson and Gary Rossington would wear boots and Ronnie would be bare foot making him look really short.
I was an extra in a movie years ago that Mick Jagger was in. One day I was stood feet away from him. He is not 5'10''. I'm 5'9'' and am taller than him. He's more like 5'7''.

Really surprised by the small size of Roger DALTREY (The WHO). I have seen him on stage twice from a rather short distance. He looked much taller than 1.65 meters (and very athletic).

Most of these guys are considered short, even dwarfish, but hugely successful and of course can get just about any woman they want. That's a reality check on this recent obsession with height. It's always been a factor but blown way out of proportion.

Maynard is quite far from 6'1". He is more like 5'7", and Layne was 6'2"-ish. (According to Mark Lanegan who was 6'4" and they were good friends)

I wonder if they are using Celebheights for current height? Robert Plant has a spine curvature illness which may have dropped him under 6 foot. Surprised about Neil Young here as 5’10 who was also over 6 foot in his youth but he has terrible posture these days.

I have to say that this list is a bit of a mess. There are singers here whose heights are completely off, i.e. Paul McCartney, Stephen Stills, Dave Grohl is mentioned twice on the list, there are heights out of sequence, and you've even got 5'12" as a height on it somehow! If human hands were responsible for assembling this list, I would be surprised.
Edit: also how did Neil Young not make it onto here? I know he's not the best singer, but his songwriting work definitely deserves a spot on this list.

I met Joey too. Granted I was 5 and wan even tinyer than I am now (4'10"). But I was standing next to him and he was so tall. I guess I said to him " wow you're really tall!" So he said "wow you're really short!" I then told him I liked him and he laughed and said he liked me too. So he was really nice to my 5 year old self and dad thought it was great.
