  • Oh wow, so some of the comments were so useful off the back of my last video I thought i'd do a video about them!
Seriously some of these comments made me reflect on exactly what this trial is all about, vs what I thought I was signing up for. I hope that this discussion helps those looking at this technology or those who are involved in the development of V2G/H systems

Thanks for an excellent series of videos. I live in Canberra, Australia, and have just bought an ex-demo Leaf with V2G in mind. Our local government is setting up its own V2G trial, REVS, although it will be with part of their fleet rather than with the public.
I note in this video you talk about V2G vs V2H. It appears to me from your later video on V2G stats that on one of your slides you got what you wanted - the energy output to the grid from the Leaf battery is reduced by domestic loads, ie while the V2G session is running you're getting V2H.
So do you have control in the Quasar to allow it to power the house when V2G isn't required?

Nuclear wildly expensive , appears that is ignored . V2g has limited use for grid scale but local lower voltage could be a problem . Cost of the batteries and effecting their life may mean profit not worth bothering . Remember all the investment in the batteries , tech etc needs to be covered in a reasonable time . Pity the Nissan only car used so not likely to go further anytime soon . When batteries get cheaper will probably be better to have wall mounted storage always at the home . Most cars will tend to be away from the home during the day when optimum solar can be involved . Buying my next ev I won’t expect chademo to be even available. Sorry think it’s just a project that has failed before it’s finished, given the funding from government has to be spent .

Good points Nigel worth exploring some of these! I wouldn’t worry about a particular connector standard disappearing as others may develop it if demand is there

I disagree with you Nigel. V2G can extend battery life. Also, as I understand Iain's set up he can divert surplus solar into his immersion heater if the car is in use or the solar not producing enough power to get the minimum the car requires. Having wall mounted storage is a duplication of resources. Finally there is talk of the Quasar model being convertible to CCS

What happens if you are trying to charge the car before you go out

You can override, will get in to the app side of things in future trials

I’m surprised it’s not more frequency response , to export to grid , as the g100 comment it is necessary if everyone was sending 80 amp back there would be issues
The DNO are very very conservative about battery storage atm but think they , the powerwall can be g100 compliant, the DNO should not take the powerwall (5 kw ) inverter in to account of there export limit, the DNO are just adding up the inverters together.
My understanding of the g100 just ups the frequency which then shuts down the pv inverters, as the inverters parameters are very tight on frequency. This is also how the powerwall deals with the power from solar when there is no where for the power to go when off grid , just highest frequency to shut pv down

Interesting, I haven’t yet had the opportunity to test the function of the g100. I was anticipating a more basic mode of operation I.e it just isolates the solar, but the above would certainly be more interesting. Hopefully weather permitting we will get an opportunity to test !

V2H is a much better business case than V2G, definitely when you have solar on the roof.
