  • We address all the reasons why our cruise cabin was the worst cruise stateroom after our recent onboard experiences from neighboring cruise passengers that made it miserable. Are these cruise passengers dangerous cruise passengers? Should you book a Guaranteed Inside Cruise Cabin or take the advice of cruisers and Never book a guaranteed Cruise stateroom? This is the latest cruise news in tandem across the cruise industry where all cruise lines are making cruise cutbacks for cruise passengers onboard cruise ships during 2024 and we were surprised by what were real cruise cutbacks and which was just bad cruise ship design! What do cruise ships do with passengers upset at other cruise passengers at sea? How do Cruise Ship Crew handle these difficult cruise passengers? Are cruise ship passengers okay with cruise lines with bad inside cruise staterooms in 2024? We talk through our experience onboard the Worlds Biggest Cruise Ship (at the time) Wonder of the Seas including our worst cruise cabin neighbor ever. This affects Royal Caribbean’s Largest Cruise Ship Class, Oasis Class, but will it affect the worlds largest cruise ship Icon of the Seas? What are your thoughts in our inside cruise chat on the biggest concern onboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships 2024?

Note: We did ask for upgrade options once we sailed away, but prior to any knowledge of our neighbors behavior. Unfortunately, the ship was sold out and guest services said there were no rooms available to change to.
Who knows if one would have magically appeared if we would have gone back with valid complaints of our neighbors, but our fear was that we would be stuck in our same room with escalating neighbors due to the sold out ship. Hope this helps answer that question!

Working in HR, I would have been down to guest services with the first incident asking to be placed elsewhere for safety concerns. Not sure where you departed from but I have utilized the Passenger Vessel Act before and ended a cruise early (the cruise departed from LA and I left the ship in PV, Mexico). Please consider this: those people have likely exhibited rude behaviour before. If they had previously cruised with RCL the cruise line might already have a file on them from past reports, needing just one more to take action. If others in your situation took the same approach to wait it out and not inform guest services, then with these individuals, there would be no documentation on file about past incidents and these two would feel empowered to continue with the same type of behaviour on future cruises (if they take another and with the same cruise line). Because you stated they they rarely left the room you could have had guest services discretely send a security agent to your room to be witness to the activity and then they could have taken action, even it it was to find you another inside cabin. There are a lot of other factors that I would not know as I was not there, but connecting door or not, you both deserved to enjoy your cruise without having to walk on eggshells each time you were in your room. There would be no way that I would do seven days with that next to me; I would ask that a bed be made up in a life boat first or I would be invoking that Act again, even though it would be at a cost to me.

Firstly, It is not Okay to be that disrespectful to others around them. Secondly, If they do this and no one reports the behavior, they are in the mindset of "If I make it known I am violent, I will always get my way". Third and lastly, With the sound of what responses you were getting through the walls, you actually put yourself in the way of harm by not reporting it immediately and being placed in a safer location. Keep doing what you are doing, I love your reports on cruising!

Hey Jared, I am sorry to hear about your experience. I thought about this situation and I would have asked to change stateroom from day 2. You guys had a bad experience when you were in your stateroom which is not fair to you. It's easy for me to say after the fact. You are too nice to the rude people next door. But make sure to have a good experience as well. It would be an honor to have you as a cruise neighbor. 🙂 Hopefully one day that will happen.

My first thought when you said he had to make a phone call, was to go to the "office" and sit on the "throne" with the door closed for a bit more privacy! 😂 Yeah, I would have certainly lodged a complaint against them and seen if recording them would have been ok. I know some states are one party consent, but not sure about cruise ships and the countries they are registered in and visit. Stinks that you had to put up with that. They are not typical of most people on that side. But at least you know to never make that same cabin mistake again! 😂 Good luck and take care from a new subscriber!

That is a difficult position. Was the cruise ship at full occupancy? If not, I might have asked to move considering the neighbors' behavior. Still, they might be able to identify you (because Guest Services would send someone to talk with them), and there could be an uncomfortable confrontation. I can't figure out why they did not leave the room. That is so odd considering the type of cabin it was and the fact they were on a cruise. I am sorry that happened to you all. It is certainly a cautionary tale about connecting cabins!

Then they knocked on their door and they didn’t answer it and security just left! 🙄

We went on the Celebration last year and had a balcony cabin, but every time I would go out to sit and get some fresh air, there would be the smell of weed. Someone complained because a bank of cabins (including us) got a letter that there was a complaint and so on, but it continued. Almost every day. It made me rethink cruising and getting a balcony.

We’ve had a similar situation except our time, they actually thought it was us and threatened us with a warning (neither of us smoke). We told guest services that neither of us smoke or have any smoking paraphernalia (whether cigarettes, cigars or other) and they were super nice with their apologies saying someone nearby swore it was our cabin.

That is always a tough call. If they were legitimately threatening violence you should have contacted guest services on board. The only problem is that would alert these people as to who complained about them and you would not be safe. You should contact the cruise line and let them know exactly what happened and let the cruise line contact the proper authorities.

Had a similar terrible experience many years ago on the Allure of the Seas. Thought we were getting a deal. NOT!! Got a surprise upgrade from an Ocean View to a Balcony. Well it was to a connecting cabin balcony. The girl next door kept complaining on the phone to what sounded like friends, loudly and started slamming her door purposely every time she entered and exited. It got so bad we had to call the front to complain about the door slamming. The front desk did put a stop to it. Will never accept an upgrade before knowing were we are moved and will never book a connecting cabin next to unknown guests.

We had a similar experience, but not because of cabin thins walls. Our neighbor was alone and elderly. When we were heading to our cabin he was loud and giving the steward a hard time. He said he was in E804 however, there was no such cabin. So, it went on and on with him. I and finally said, even when you have been proven wrong you are still yelling you are bine an A**hole. The week continued and almost nightly he couldn't get in his cabin and would be screaming HELP HELP, obviously being good neighbors a bunch of us came out to see what was happening, especially because that night we had an emergency medivac. We were all on edge and he was elderly. His medallion didn't work because he was trying to get in our cabin. He said I am going to call 911. It was miserable and it woke us up nightly. We too did not report him, but wrote a note on our survey we did at the end of the cruise. We luckily were never in the cabin during the day. I think you guys did the right thing. Good on you for being above that crap, because for sure if you had complained they would have been possibly very dangerous.

There's no reason to have connected rooms like these ones on the ships or hotels. I think we consider our vacations as a valuable and a special event which we plan in advance. We need privacy and a relaxing trip, so with the design and layout like that is very problematic.

My friend had a cabin where , even without an adjoining door, the neighbours were so loud, and would play their tv 24/7. It was so annoying. Even reporting it to security didn't help. I would have gone to gs the second day that tv was blasting. I would have given the first day a pass on the chance they would get over their "mood". I would ask someone to come to your room and listen to how loud the sound was from the other room. Those big ships must have a spare empty room somewhere to move people to who are having such issues. We went to Florida once and someone in the next room had their tv blasting all night. They said it was an older woman and she needed the sound to sleep. We said we didn't need to be awake all night. We were on vacation. They moved us. They moved us to a higher floor with a better view. 😊 Kathleen

We had nightmare neighbors in a balcony cabin. We also have cruised 50+ times and did not encounter anything like this in any other cabin types (including inside cabins). Yes, we have had balcony smokers and pot use (makes me very nauseated and I couldn't use our balcony) but we never call about those things. Our last cruise was our nightmare situation. The neighbors were very loud and it seemed like they were in our cabin with us. (not a connecting cabin) They also had very loud sexy time multiple times a day at all hours. 1st of all, good for them for enjoying their cruise, but not appropriate to be so over the top in volume in a public situation. We tried some subtle hints such as talking a little louder so they could hear how thin the walls were. I sent a kind, discreet note under their door just to say that the walls were very thin and we hoped that we weren't disturbing them as I am sure that they noticed we can hear each other very clearly through the wall. That night and the following 4 nights they were louder than ever and had friends in their cabin at 2am and they loudly stated that they were apparently disturbing people with their "enthusiasm". On day 6 of our 7 day cruise my husband finally went to guest services to plead for an intervention or a room change- we were not able to sleep! They told us that unless we called while they were engaged in the noise they couldn't speak to them. He then asked if we could change cabins, even an inside cabin would be fine. They did move us and we had 1 good night. I wish we had done that sooner.

In your case, should it happen again, I might go to Guest Services as soon as there is a problem. For your story, you should say if the cruise was at full occupancy. I'm hearing that a lot of cruises are full occupancy now. Everyone seems to think it's so easy to get a room changed. They would probably only change if there was something wrong with the cabin, such as a leak or A/C that didn't work.

I believe, if you had complained to guest services, you may have been moved to a better cabin & possibly a balcony cabin! A woman I met on my last cruise to the Mediterranean was upgraded from an inside to a balcony because she complained that it had a foul smell. She got a balcony cabin for 7 days out of her 14 day cruise. They had to clean it & air it out before moving her back to her original cabin. She was thrilled how guest services at Princess handled her complaint!
