The helmet isn't meant to protect him if something goes wrong. It's meant to make him look cool.

How does one learn how to properly fly this?
It seems like something you can't really train for, you just have to jump in and do it.
train with a plane and just try to control that suit

Please ease up a little mate. Doesn't matter how low you can fly we don't actually care about that. The Isle of Man motorcycle race, a bird hits a rider and breaks the riders neck. Ease up and live a little longer sending us beautiful film. We are amazed at how wonderful your sport is, not how low you fly. Thank you, this is incredible.

Jourdon Gulick- Agree with you: no control over the birds that exist in those places, probly no way to detect one on a collision course soon enuf even to flinch. A chunk of foam, at speed, fatally damaged a Shuttle’s leading edge. A little sparrow hit would, at least, distract or stun long enuf to spoil the day. Still; nothing ventured, nothing gained.

He isn't just gonna touch the ground, the ground would rub all the flesh off of him like a grater to a block of cheese.
That aside, he's a pro and the risk is reduced on account of his experience and training.

Yes, but the GoPro craze really only started a few years ago, but I know that I've seen one video where the guy doing the wingsuit miscalculated and hit the wires on a suspension bridge... A person flew towards the bridge (I guess trying to go under or over) and chunks fell out the other side... Gruesome, but then again, life isn't a guarantee that you'll die leaving a beautiful corpse....

Indeed one would have had to go through a lot of training to master the body vs the wind to master body control from spinning out of countries.
Not just any body can do this.
It indeed takes the right kind of person to develops steering the technics of bony flying ! That means scores of hours on jumping skills out of air planes first on free falls.
I'd almost want to say this was a movie and they simply attached him with wires to hold him up, but it's real folks !!!

two different jumps? The stalk cam at the start isn't on the helmet when viewed from some of the other angles during the flight. Or am I missing something?

The key here is to hold your head steady. One mistake there and you hit the rocks. Look pretty easy but lots of physics involved.

Seems like their would be a harsh down draft so close to the ground or in between pockets of land mass. Helicopters & air planes get sucked down to the ground in such places. It's where hot & cold drafts of air meet that these pockets are present.
I was surprised he was able to be that close to the ground without being pulled down to the ground😜
That would be cool if a flight like that or longer could be made with 360!
