      one of my favorite Rush tunes. in all the Peart writing after his death, I was sad to hear that this was, "quote" not one of their better tunes! totally disagree!!! beautiful lyrics, beautifully sung, with crisp Neil and some awesome power chords from Alex. simple, powerful and original, and SUCH a thrill to hear Neil describe his process. oh, how we effing miss him. :(

      That’s what made him so great. Even when there were no lyrics like in his solos the way he played was so musical. I can listen to Neil’s solos and never get bored. Other drummers not so much.

    • @the6ig6adwolf
      @the6ig6adwolf 8 месяцев назад

      More likely, Geddy was supporting the drums with his vocal phrasing. Drum tracks are recorded first, and while Neil wrote the lyrics, it was Geddy who was in charge of lyrical patterns and phrasing.

      Three years on it's still terrible. It was odd that Neil never understood why so many strangers felt like they knew him; he was in our lives daily with his lyrics and music. Just because we were not a part of his life didn't mean that he wasn't a part of ours. Odd that such a thoughtful and insightful guy never saw that. The only famous person I'd hoped to meet. Would never have gone up to him in public to bother him, though. Far too much respect for him.

    You know, when celebrities I have appreciated have died, yes I have been sad to hear about it, but never so much so that I was moved to tears, until Neil. In fact I still find myself choking up when I stumble across videos of him like I did today here. I mean, on the one hand I find it odd. I never knew him personally, but on the other hand, he was such a humble and outstanding talent, and his music and live performances were such a huge part of my life, I guess it can only be expected. What a legacy he left.

    As musicians, each member of Rush would have been a standout in any other setting. In Rush, however, Geddy, Alex, and Neil were just "the guys in the band"...
    I saw them back in high school on their Farewell to Kings tour and followed them ever since. Rush always had great albums that showed a tremendous amount of time and thought but their live shows were fun to watch because they'd smile, cut up, joke around, and enjoy the show as much as the fans. Rush retired as they did everything else in their career, with class and on their terms.
    Thanks for the music, you guys really added something positive to the world.

    A typical masterclass of drumming from the professor. Lyricist poet Genius and a very humble human being, he inspired a generation and played his part with my favourite band of all time. Rest in peace Neil I hope you are reunited with lost family on the other side. 🙌

      @@grabasandwich The interview opens saying he'd spend 39 of his 60 years in Rush. He was born in 1952, so I find that confusing. Any idea how that makes sense if it took place in 2017?

    I played drums in a band to support myself while going to school back in the 80's. I had no idea the level of effort and focus people like Neil executed in their craft. I was nothing but a hack. God rest this gentle giant of a man who gave all of us so much.

    As a non musician, what he is saying may as well be Greek to me, but he is so well spoken that I am captivated, and seeing him perform the song, I am left in awe.

    Such a brilliant lyric and so true of many things you see in life
    Listening closer to the drums on each track you hear different things every time - he will always be the professor
    Same works for Alex's guitar and Ged's bass - damn I miss them but went out at the right time for them
