The Mavic Air is very popular with new drone pilots. But setting up a DJI drone for the first time can be confusing. This video walks beginners through the steps of setting up their new drone for the first time including software installation, firmware updates, compass calibration and more. If you are an experienced drone pilot, then this video is probably too basic for you. But if you are just starting out and want to know how to properly set up your new Mavic Air, or any other DJI drone, this video will walk you through the steps for successful setup!
I just got a mavic air combo on saturday & finally took it for maiden flight the next day after waiting for rainy weather to end.
It’s my first ever drone and it’s amazing. Thanks for all your videos & the information you provide.
I’m learning more with each flight & really can’t wait to ride to upstate ny , especially in the fall and film some awesome autumn scenery .
Another great video Kelly, especially for those who are just receiving their new Mavic Air and un-boxing.
Hey, I want to thank you for INCREDIBLY good content. You were answering my questions right as I had them, especially when it came to the cables. Excellent excellent job. You read your audience well.
Great introduction Kelly!! Definitely keeping this video for reference when I get my Mavic Air
This is an awesome video. You really helped me out when I had a question about the connector cable from the drone to the pc which was a USB C. Thank you.
I just received my mavic air fly more combi and i must say it looks like a great drone. I finished the setup and installing the firmware. I cant wait flying this thing tomorrow. I also own a phantom 4 pro and an inspire 2 but i am certainly going to use the air a lot. So awsome for travelling.
Great video thanks. Been out of the game since i sold my P4 6 months ago so this is quite a change. Look forward to the flights ahead!
Very well put together video, it is all you need to know to get started. So very helpful, cheers Kelly and Tate.
I own a lot of DJI products and this video was still helpful. Thanks for doing this.
Thank you very much for this great Mavic intro!
Thanks for this vid! Can't wait to fly!
Just ordered mine yesterday and looking forward to my first flight. New sub here and thank you on a great tutorial vid 👍
Thanks!
Does your mavic air fly with no problems...??
Very informative and useful information, thank you so much for sharing it!
Very helpful as have just made the purchase. Great vid. thankyou.
Just got my Mavic Air: Saving this for tomorrow's setup!
Great information. Thank you.
Thank you! Really good video, appreciate it
Very detailed tutorial for a beginner like me. Thank you
Awesome video. Very informative, great work!!!
This should be something the person that just bought this drone should watch while they are charging their battery/batteries up. Nice Job. Quick question.... what size phones will fit in the the holder on that remote?
Nice, this was helpful. Thank you.
Ive just setup my Air many thanks for this video DJI products once you know what you are doing setup is easy
Only $100 off my first dji drone (will get the air), will definitely have to use those prop guards 😂. This video helped me immensely thanks Kelly!
Saving this video for next week when I get my Mavic Air
Thanks for the great video!
Great info! My husband and I are looking into buying a drone for our travel/gold mining vlog. Glad we stumbled upon your channel.
Awesome! Mavic Air is great for travel!
Gold mining? I am intrigued already :D
Its got shitty battery life, the Remote wont last you even 30 minutes. And the remote charging takes 3 hours. Where can you charge a power hog like that when your traveling on the go. I KNOW because i bought my Mavic AIR 2 days back.
mgr5550 are you still using your Air or have you moved on to something else ?
1ST CLASS! I wish I'd seen that video before I did it the hard way, starting from zero!
it's not hard lol
Awesome video as the norm keep em coming.
Great vid, do I have to remove my otter box case for my iPhone 8 every time I use the controller ??
Very useful. Thanks mate
Is there any known ways to charge the batteries without being plugged into the wall? Like using a DC/Battery Pack etc like the Spark??
Thank you. Great video.
Hi, what will stop it from not setting home position? great video thankyou
Very helpful. Thanks!
thanks for the explanation
Really useful video. Thank you :-)
Thank you very much for the vid!
Nice intro video, thank you.
After the firmware update I am all setup thanks for this!!! BTW - My lights at the front are red while being green on the back.
Great job!
Appreciate the good intro.
Thank you for helping.
If you have both Android and iOS devices, which do you prefer or do you not see a difference?
Lovely content!
I have a noobie question. I use android and I'm wanting to get the mavic air. On my other drones that aren't dji, they require you to have usb tethering enabled to connect to their app. My question is does dji go 4 require usb tethering enabled also? Thanks
Nice Job!
I thought registration with the Faa is no longer required. I got mine like a year ago for 3 years but they came up with something after that so I dont think its necessarry
clear and precise
Should mention, that in my findings, that when you get firmware updates that you have to do it for each battery as well.
Great video introduction to the Mavic Air, well done!
Thanks Jennifer! I look forward to speaking with you later today!
Yes, same!
Great info!
Really good introduction for beginners ;-)
I was planning to buy the DJI Mavic Air but you should read this first: click.dji.com/AACrSKZsBgLDLL3YiwSkfQ?pm=link&as=0013
Excellent!
Hi. There's been concerns expressed about what DJI Chinese company do with the link they have to their machines. Any views? Bob UK.
Good nice teaching experience....
Is it possible to use Spark's remote control connecting with Mavic Air?
I have a Samsung Note 5 when I use the cord to connect to phone I plug the micro USB end into controller and the big square end in the middle Part of the controller is this the correct way?
Very nice review dear ..
Hello sir , where can I buy only combo accessories ? without drone ( we have mavic air )
Need only accessories.
Thank you sir

Need to know how to change the little plastic bracket in the phone holder part, for a different phone connector.
Will a smart controller with built in screen work with this drone, or do I have to use my phone? Really becomes a pain in the ass to have to take off my bulky Otterbox case every time I want to fly
Also, i had a hell of a time connecting to the WiFi for the drone. I had to scan a bar code and it kept failing etc.
The Air is on my radar but I am concern about the lost of signal because where I live the cell pnone signal is often intermittent. Would I have any issues with the wifi signal on the Mavic Air?
it help me alot
Does it let you fly over 400ft if you want too?
@readysetdrone can you do an altitude test with the Mavic Air??
Great introduction for newbies
Thanks!
I tried to set up my mavic pro and it was a total fail I was trying to set up a iPhone 6 with no service and the control would not connect. AFTER 4hr I had to give up
Hi there! Where can I find the adapter to charge the controller? I just lost it :(
Thanks a lot :)
Can you please tell me what drone's batteries are exchangeable?.
Will it work well with Android phone (e.g - Galaxy 10) ? thanks
Great Video as usual. I have an unrelated question. I love the paint color on your back room (living room) would you know the color name and brand. Thank you.
Wow...great question. I will have to ask my wife if she remembers the name/color of the paint. Thanks fo rhte comment.
Hi, thank you for the great information video on the drone. I just bought a used one in very good condition. When I follow the process of registering the drone to my account, DJI is asking for Visa/Debit/Credit Card details. Is this the correct procedure for the registration to my name? Thank you in advance. Tom in Ireland.
When I turn on the apas mode, it turns green and then goes to the active track mavic air will follow and automatically avoid obstacles.
Not able to connect Controller with GO 4 using WIFI. The cable connection is not very reliable
Cool intro to the Air. Remember activate your Refresh within 48hours and change the currency/region in the right hand corner for your region. It’s a $ as standard and for US customers.
Most definitely, DJI Care already saved my ass and only had a 6 day turnaround!
Did you register that drone to the faa because I don’t think it’s required since it’s under .55 grams but correct me if I’m wrong don’t want to get in legal trouble
How do you recover your lost magic after emergency landing. Is it on GPS so I can track it
Thanks !
Not a drone owner but seriously thinking of getting the the mavic air. Have watched quite a few videos, and all say that the aerials on the control should be fully upright unless the drone is behind you and then they should tilt at an angle. Just saying!
Thank You
Quick note. I believe the FAA now mandates drone owners to put their registration number in a visible place, instead of somewhere like under the battery.
Hi can u help me pls? I just lost my droneMAVIC AIR just now 1 am Miami FL time. Can u teach me how to find the last location of my mavic air pls? Thanks
its asking wired or wifi connection ? I guess I'm stuck till I find out
i would like to add minor disappointing correction, the 4 battery charger Does Not Charge 4 Batteries at once. it charges them one at a time in a sequence.
Yeah. This was really disappointing. I ended up buying a 3rd party charger from amazon which charges 4 batteries at once, plus has 2 USB ports for charging controller and phone.
So You rather have 4 half charged batteries than 2 fully charged batteries and 2 empty ones?
@@MrMoshoeshoe how is it 2? The charger does all 4 batteries at the same time and fully. Where did you get 2 half charged?
It was designed that way on purpose. There is only so much current running through the charger so instead of splitting that electrical current between 4 batteries and charging them all slowly it focuses on charging one battery as fast as possible so you can get back in the air.
@@kyledavidson3845 I see. Ill have to drain my batteries and put two on each charger to see which charges faster. Thanks for the reply.
What memory card do you recommend getting for this drone?
doesn't mattern just an micro sd card
Left you a like
Is it worth buying the spark if I already have the Mavic Air?
I would use it just for fun so I won't damage my mavic
Nah I guess Mavic works good, will not get damaged that easily, no need to worry. Sparks trash anyways...
I have a question. You said the battery was intelligent and may need a firmware update. I assume that means if you have more than one battery and you are getting ready to head out and you do a firmware update, you have to attach all the batteries and update them, right?
That is my understanding. The subsequent updates should go faster.
May get mavic pro
I was planning to buy the DJI Mavic Air but you should read this first: click.dji.com/AACrSKZsBgLDLL3YiwSkfQ?pm=link&as=0013
I am having trouble getting the answer to this question..........Do You Leave the phone's Blue Tooth AND Wi-Fi on??
Can the FAA sticker be underneath the battery? If I have my drone replaced by DJI Care, can I use the same number of the downed aircraft?
I believe that the number can be below the battery. As long as it can be seen easily when the battery is removed. Yes, the same number applies to all of your drones.
Thanks for the quick response. Love your informative videos!
BTW: Make sure to check out headtracking on the Mavic Air with the Goggles, it is possible if you swipe down with two fingers on the Goggle's touchpad and activate it. Would love to see a video testing it on the various DJI drones and comparing it's functionality with each.
good
I thought the FAA registration was overturned in the courts and is no longer required. Did they reinstate it? Is my old registration still good? I never canceled it or asked for my $5 back! I’m glad I watched this video!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, it was struck down in May 2017 but reinstated in December 2017. Yes, your original registration is still valid.
Ready Set Drone, thanks so very much! I was completely unaware of that. I thought I was keeping up on things but I guess I missed that. I enjoy your videos so I watched this one thinking I could still learn something regardless of how long I’ve had my P4. I’m really glad I did! Thanks again!👍
That's news to me as well. I ripped the registration number off all my gear back when it was struck down. Guess I'll have to print some more and put them all back on again.
True Statement!
The manual says that the second part of the compass calibration should be nose pointed downwards. Any idea which is the right way?
Great observation. The picture in the app shows it with the camera facing sideways. My suspicion is that either will work, as long as one is horizontal (drone in normal flat position) and vertical (either nose facing down, up or sideways). I've flown several times since this video was made and had no issues with it the compass or GPS, so it seems to have worked.
Ready Set Drone thanks for the clarification! To confuse matters further my app shows a diagram of the drone facing sideways like yours but the descriptions says to point nose down...
What's this about DJI recording and saving all the flight info!!??
Dnt know if it is true and do not think it matters but it sounds weird!! Love your channel!!
👍👍
It makes sense that if you are logged into your account the could do that. I suppose that if you crashed or had a flyaway, they could verify what happened.
Ready Set Drone. Yeah there are stupid people out there that just want to spy or drop drugs into prisons lol so i see why they would! That was the 1st thing i heard about drones way before i started flying. Was the drugs being dropped into private owned prisons here in ohio!! That and just being stupid!! Everyone want to fly right over cars or people!! Great channel you put out great info!!
If its a brand new mavic air battery, should the battery be allowed to stand in the charger overnight even after the charge blinking has stopped ? Like a battery break in or something. Some people suggest doing this for phone batteries etc which are new. DOes the same hold good for these ?
I have not heard of that. I think once the lights stop blinking, I the battery is at 100% and can be taken off the charger. I've actually heard that it's not good to leave the batteries on the charger too long once they are charged. But, these are "smart" chargers, so I think that it's not a problem either way.
My new MAVIC AIR is a regrettable experience. Havent even flown it yet. The remote controller once fully charged lasts only 30 minutes that too when not even flying. Just idling and checking the remote functions thru the android app to get a feel for them and it last me 30 minutes. How the hell will i fly with my flymore combo which has 3 batteries which will outlast the remote. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a flymore combo when your remote will last only 30 minutes on a full charge. And charging the remote from say 20% to full TAKES 3 HOURS.
@@mgr5550 that's not normal. You have a defective controller or doing something wrong.
Check on dji Mavic Air forums and ask there.
Also turning the drone on u need to press the button once then let it go and then press it for 3 seconds
wasted 1 hour trying to figure it out.
