I live in the Philippines, can I buy from your web link
Hello, I know you probably wont come across my comment, but just in case you do, can you talk about the 2.4 and 5.8 ghz? and also what you think is best to use to get better stronger signal. thank you.
I know that there are "landing pads" that you can get for drones. I personally suggest not getting those. If you're a photographer or filmmaker, chances are you have a 2in1 or a 5in1 reflector lying around (and if you don't you should get one). Use that (it's basically the same as the "landing pads" from the official site, but with other uses when you are filming with your camera). I carry one with me whenever I take my camera somewhere, so why not use it to land the drone? That's just my philosophy... Tall Grass be gone.

As someone who stutters and stops a lot and needs a detailed script for narrating videos, an under-appreciated aspect of this video is this guy's lack of cuts. Very succinct, confident speaker.

Stumbled onto your site and am impressed with your review. Not even sure why I watched the entire thing, I don't own a drone, but have to commend you on the in depth and obviously well researched presentation. I almost wish I owned a drone now.
The best review for the Mavic Air I've seen so far. I like how you go into the smaller details that others don't include.
Hi Rick from BBC on Long Island buddy! I must tell you that 6 yrs ago I had a bad car accident and suddenly after working 34 yrs I was fighting for my life being totally paralyzed ! After a lot of work and at 53yrs old at the time I was able to walk out of the nursing home. Ok now I am forced retirement and can't do too much physically so I was told to get a , " Hobby " , now that's where you came in to my picture of life! After watching all of the drone video's out there , your video's are the most informative and for obvious reasons, you are my favorite and helped me with my new hobby..........I just wanted to thank you and just remind you how popular you are Rick !!! Almost Rock Star Status ! PS I own a pro 4 + I will be buying a second drone(maverick pro) ..I just don't know which one zoom? Anyway please hook me up where to buy it and suggestions about the monitor......because I love my pro4+ because I liked just pulling out the controller and bam your all set to fly instead of playing with wires setting up a phone or tablet!!! Help me out Rick ? What tablet should i buy for my new Maverick??? Thanks Rick , your my guy buddy!
I've owned the Spark for 3 months and absolutely love it. The only negative and not major is flight time. With the Mavic Air (combo) currently selling for $160 below normal retail cost, I'm extremely close to upgrading. I hope it's not significantly noisier than the Spark. Awesome review by the way, thank you.
Paul, The Mavic Air is an amazing upgrade to the Spark and I've been flying 2 of them for over a year and love them. It flies longer and farther than the Spark and is just a dream in the air. I am uploading a clip today talking about the DJI Summer sale and have 15 coupons I'll be giving away Next week to save you another 5% off the sale price. Look for that clip to upload today and enter the contest for the chance to win one of these. It'll be a short contest and I'll pick the winners in 48 hours. If you do decide to pull the trigger before then, please use this link to help support the channel - tinyurl.com/y4gx8ccl. Thanks, Rick
I bought one of these the other day and I am blown away by how amazing it is.
I did a bunch of research an bought an open box Mavic Air... I'm even more happy with my purchase after your review!
Hope you enjoy it! That Mavic Air is an amazing quad and I'm still flying mine today. Even though there have been a lot of newer drones released since that quad came out, it still provides everything you need for a great day of flying and filming. Stay tuned for more content this weekend.
I love the tips like don't take card out over grass etc. If there is a stupid mistake to make I will make it. I'll also say as someone that just bought the Air it is good to see an engineer excited about it. Oops one more comment- probably the best RUclips instruction I've seen on any topic.
Just bought my Mavic Air today and just watched your video!!! Thank you for making me feel comfortable about spending $600 and EXCITED to get mine in the air in the morning!!!!!
Steven, I'm glad you enjoyed the clip and I hope you have a lot of fun with the new quad. Take it slow and you'll be a pro in no time. Stop back soon as I have more clips posting this week. Rick
Im impressed by the number of words spoken in this video
I am considering buying a quad. This is by far the best video analysing the Mavic Air
Thanks👍
I agree that it's hard to get the card out but I a) press the card to eject and b) use a dedicated pair of plastic tweezers to remove the card. It works every time. I love my Mavic Air.
Rick I enjoyed your review because you are intelligent and analyze things. Most people do superficial tests without putting much thought behind the actual development of a product and why things function certain ways. Keep doing these. Thank you.
Mate, I have been watching a lot of videos the last few days since getting my first drone, the Mavic Air. Your presentation is by far the best I have seen to date. Thankyou and well done :D
I was listening and thought the video speed is at 1.25 and checked and is normal. Great info thanks
This was the "shortest" 43 minute video I've ever watched! Absolutely AMAZING video! Thanks!
Thanks for the compliment and I'm glad you enjoyed the clip. I have a lot more content posting this week so be sure to stop back. Rick
New MA owner here and that cleared up a lot of technical and functionality questions I had. Thanks for the details! I look forward to more videos DV!
Bought my Mavic Air around 14 days ago, enjoyed your review of the Mavic Air Thanks. It's a pity that today I heard about the Mavic Air 2 I should have waited but did not know it was coming , I'll stick to what I bought for a good while
One of the best if not the best review, thank you Rick! I bought the Mavic AIr and I didn't like your review because I wanted to justify my purchase. I bought the Mavic Air because it suits my needs. I am not worried about not having Ocusync because one of the rules in my country of flying a drone is you must only fly during the day and keep your drone within visual line-of sight..Plus the extra sensors that the Mavic Air has.
I love the Mavic Air. Thanks again!
WOW! That was the very best overview/review/handson/explanations I have ever seen! And I have seen a lot about a lot! Thank you!
First time Mavic buyer/user. But the review is so excellent due to Rick's knowledge. It helps me understand things I did not learn from other reviews that I had checked. Thanks Rick.
this man is practical AF...loved it
it was nice watching this, something refreshing about your personality. You have the appearance of an older guy, but sound so energetic smooth and youthful... I am ready to get a mavic air now
Old guys rule kid!
Memory cad goes in with gold contacts up. Spring loaded when seated properly. Use a small piece of tape on the memory card so you can pull the memory card out after releasing it.
Just got the onyx black and use a 64gb card in it. No issues so far! I love the thing! Flies excellent in wind (especially with sport mode enabled) and I haven't lost range or anything yet! Very pleased with my purchase
I just got the MA. I’m nervous & excited about learning to fly it and learn the special features. It would be nice to see how each flight feature works and understand what is going to happen when I select it. Also the best way to switch between each while on the fly. I hear all the warnings on what can happen on ‘fly-aways’ I’m almost afraid to take it out of beginner mode.
One of the best reviews for drones that I have seen. Thank you! 👍
I’m new to drones. Like a true idiot I wasn’t expecting it to be so technical. My train of thought was I could really use it for aerial views when I’m sprinting on the track. It took me 4 days to learn how to turn the damn thing on. So I’ve since put it away to first learn what to do before flying.
Thankful for these videos. Great Job Rick thanks for the insight.
Hands down THE BEST review on the web. Thank you!! BTW you have the best set up. Well lit and no clutter as to distract from your review. Amazing. Thank you
My God it is by far the most helpful video about the Mavic Air I have seen. I could not help subscribe hahaha. Hi from Venezuela!
Bought the Mavic Air, was worried I got the wrong one, you've reassured my decision.
18:11 I wouldn't recommend doing that as condensation you see form on a cold glass of ice water can damage electronics as well as cause other issues to avoid. Seeing this video just reminded me I have an AIO cam on a JJ1000 that went blurry in high humidity in-between cycles of rain I am hoping is moisture and not a lose light sensor from being attacked by a telephone pole that roam around my backyard looking for trouble and ended the flight in wet grass.... just checked it and now it's fine now.... thanks for reminding me;-) Amazing tech being shown...
Good video, I just bought one and cannot wait to get it. It is my first drone.
I ahve this new drone, it is literally insane how compact, complex and well built it is.
Just bought the magic air... First drone!.. So happy I found your channel.. Thanks so much for your tutorial.
Thanks for the post and I hope you really enjoy the Mavic Air, it's an amazing quad and a ton of fun to fly. Be sure to subscribe as I'll have a lot more content posting this week. Rick
You should’ve been the first person on RUclips to make a video on this drone.always excellent reviews
I love your videos. You made me decide to buy the Mavic Air. I did want to say about the antenna...mine do lock together at the ends when they fold up. Thought it was neat to keep them from flopping up. Again love the videos. Thanks
Rick, thanks for this comprehensive review. Absolutely the best "Real World" review that I've seen on the Mavic Air. You have the very best RUclips Drone Channel, with the most honest reviews that I've seen. Thanks much! George in FL
George, thanks a lot for the post and I am really glad you're enjoying the clips. I have a lot of fun playing with these quads and will have a lot more content posting soon. Rick
FANTASTIC REVIEW, this really gave me such a good summary from a different point of view. Thank you for spending the time to make this video.
I always forget to fold down the antenna’s, glad to know I’m not the only one...well done! Rick
Great video! Re: getting the SD card out, for my Raspberry Pi card I attached a piece of scotch tape and folded it over itself so that it attached to both sides of the outer half of the card. That way, there's always a little piece of tape to grab and pull it out. Might help for this situation as well.
John, thanks for the post and that's a great idea. I'll try that tomorrow and I'm sure it will help getting that little rascal out of the quad. Stay tuned, I have a lot more content posting this week. Rick
I recently purchased the Mavic Air. Seen a lot of reviews saying it is really hard to get the SD card out. I don’t know if everyone already noticed, but it is spring loaded. So if you push it in more it pops out. For me it has not caused any issues so far. But I do agree using the cable is way easier and faster.
Thanks for a great review :)
great idea
I use a plastic tweezer to eject and to take it out. Makes me a bit more carful each time and it's not falling out.
Genius
Very Informative Rick...Thanks
I've had my Mavic Air for about 3 weeks and been flying it everyday. Love it
Awesome video. I am a Mavic Air owner and I envoy flying this drone.
Rick ... I'm a big fan of the CrystalSky Monitor and wanted to share with you how to overcome the connection problems with the CrystalSky and the Mavic Air. I find that if I follow this procedure I never have a problem:
1st flight of the day:
Step 1: Power up Crystal Sky (no cables connected)
Step 2: Power up Mavic Air Controller and Mavic Air (don't move on until you have established a connection between Mavic Air Controller and Mavic Air)
Step 3: Connect your cable to the Mavic Air Controller
Step 4: Connect the other end of your cable to your CrystalSky
Subsequent Flights (at the end of the first flight, do not totally power down CrystalSky and don't disconnect any cables):
Step 1: Wake up CrystalSky (no need to disconnect any cables prior to this step)
Step 2: Power up Mavic Air Controller and Mavic Air
I followed these procedures and 100% of the time I had a consistent connection. One other problem with using the CrystalSky on the Mavic Air, it will not work with DJI Mavic Mount that they sell for the Mavic. The Jaws that hold the piece that mates up to the CrystalSky mount are different dimensions then that on the Mavic Air. I wound up going with a third party mount that holds my CrystalSky Monitor and works real well on the Mavic Air.
I just wanted to share this with your community if they wanted to fly the CrystalSky Monitor on the Mavic Air.
When I use my Crystalsky monitor.
STEP 1 Turn on drone.
STEP 2 Turn on RC.
STEP 3 Connect the monitor to the RC by using the USB port on the side of the RC and to either USB port on the side of the monitor depending on what cable you have. I DON'T USE THE PORT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE RC OR MONITOR.
STEP 4 The monitor turns on automatically most times. If it doesn't turn monitor on. Then wait till it loads and hit the FLY GO.
Damn nuisance not be able to use the mount I got for the SPARK
Thank you very much for your comprehensive and helpful review. Nobody reviews the Mavic Air like you do!
Love the review Rick. You do such a great job breaking down the technology to a level where those of us not tech knowledgeable can understand it. Keep up the good reviews and looking forward to more in the future. BTW love the way you explained the hidden connection on the battery bank for future firmware updates. I was wonder what that was for. JVO in Michigan.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the info I have just brought a Air drone and was looking for some more info about it and you have helped allot.
Just Mavic Air 1..i have no other..ocean and island

Rick the very best in-depth review of the Mavic Air I have seen. Fantastic!!! I have been flying the Mavic Air for the last 2 1/2 weeks and truly love it. Over the weekend I sold my Mavic Pro and P4. Keeping my Spark as a backup. This is how confident I am that the Mavic Air will be my go to drone. If you take any still photos try -2 setting for the sharpness removes any “jaggies” perfect and crisp photos.
Same here...the spark has a faster scramble time, so keeping it too.
Do you like the digital zoom better on the mavic pro or the mavic air?
Eric, I purchased a Mavic Air as well and am wanting to list my P3A. How did you go about selling your MP and P4?
Hi, I sold both through eBay with a buy now price. They sold much faster than I expected. Good Luck!!!
I am sorry to say I have never used the digital zoom.
Excellent review. Probably one of the best on RUclips. Sold me.
Fun to watch these oldie goldies 👍👍✌️
Just a small correction @ 28:55 The flymore combo case DOES allow the drone inside it with everything else in the case at the same time.
Hands down...the best comprehensive review I have ever seen on a drone! The only things I would have added is talking about the sensors (if you did that I completely missed it!) and the fact that if another person is using the DJI googles the pilot cannot have a phone/tablet attached. I know you mentioned the cable port not working with the other plugged in but I would reiterate it. This is a downfall of DJI, but I'm sure they'll eventually fix it. Thanks!
Yet another in depth very informative and educational presentation. Well done Rick, always look forward to and enjoy your presentation immensely. Your passion for drones is clearly visible and acknowledged. Thanks very much indeed. Cheers form South Africa
I’m new to the drone world and was looking at the Mavic Pro vs the Air, after watching many test and compares you sold me on the Mavic Air, thanks for the comprehensive tests and explanations, I’m also an engineer getting towards my retirement era and need a fun hobby, I also just got my first action camera the Hero7 Black and really enjoying it on trips, cycling and SUP. Again thanks for a great review I’ll be watching more of your videos and visiting you web store.
I've had my Mavic Air a few months now. The case for the drone fits nicely in the zip bag (that expands) on the front of the carrying bag. It would've been nice to have it inside the main compartment somewhere, but it does fit perfectly in the front bag on the carry case.
That was a really worthwhile appraisal. Thank you very much.
the shaking was the cold impacting the IMU, as it was over compensating, the recent update they adjusted and it fixed it, great video as usual pal
My first time watching one of your videos and I must say I am impressed. I really like your delivery, the level of detail and the way you balance your opinion with a solid level of explanation. I have subscribed and will be looking for more videos on this Mavic Air drone that I wish to purchase VERY soon.
In the mavic case bottom. You ll notice a sleeve.
Which you can extend and fit In the remote controller once you remove the joysticks.
That way you will be able to fit both the quad and the remote in ine single package.
On the USB cards, use a small piece of tape on the end bottom side of the card to make a tab, use thin tape, this creates a small tab to pull on to pull the card out. Like they do with some batteries. If you use red tape, if you drop it, it is easy to see where it is. Cheers
damn...I'm impressed..if I'm not really careful..I learn something new every day:)
Thank you for the indepth look at the Mavic Air Rick. Good job In my time with the Mavic Air I found three areas I think that can be improved upon: removal of the SD card (you have to use tweezers), noise level (wish DJI would make quiter props), and the power button on the bottom (odd place to put it). Thanks again !
Hi Rick, thanks for the in depth review, nice to see a reviewer with one eye on the regulations! I've just ordered one, and waiting on delivery. Glenn. UK
Hey bud thank you for the in depth review of the Mavric Air Drone
Great, insight! Reaffirmed my decision for buying the Mavic Air. First ever drone - arrives in 2 days and with all the data I’ve absorbed, I feel like I’ve already opened it for weeks.
Thank you for making this video Rick! Totally useful content. I’m a new quad DJI Mavic Air owner. Your’s is the best intro video for this new product.
Jeff, thanks for the post and I'm glad you enjoyed the clip. The Mavic Air is an amazing quad and you're going to love flying it. I'll have a lot more quad content posting this week so be sure to stop back and sub the channel. Rick
Thanks for the detailed review Rick! Excellent delivery and views. Well presented.
Thanks for all Rick
Thanks Rick for a great video. Just subscribed to the channel and newsletter.
That was exhaustive, and exhausting!
Some of the best things in life take a little work. I hope you enjoyed the clip and got some value from the content. I know it was long but there was a lot to cover in the clip. I have more content posting this week so be sure to stop back soon. Rick
You can fit the remote and the drone in a case in your fly more combo bag. Looks funny, but the side pocket will do the job.
Just started w my new Mavic Air. Its amazing and everything in this video is on target. The one thing that I couldn't figure out from the manual was where the port was to update the hub firmware. Thanks for pointing out the removable cover. It wasn't clear in the manual that it was to be removed first and it looked like it was permanently attached like the other pads on the hub so I thought it might no longer be needed.
Scott, thanks for the post and I'm glad you enjoyed the clip. That connection is really hidden and it took me a little work to find it too. Be sure to sub the channel when you get a chance so you don't miss anything. We'll be at the DJI launch this week and will be posting a ton of content from the show. Rick
Thanks for the video. I store the controller (sticks removed) in the elastic pouch on the back of the mavic air case.
Hi - great video - I have just bought one and no prior drone experience so forgive my probably dumb question. I am a little confused as which option I should connect as in the setup it asks wired controller or wifi. Now I want to use the controller to steer rather than the iPad but obviously want access to all the flight modes ...... which connection should I choose or am I completely confused lol
You are awesome! Very professional, genuine, passionate, and I love how fast you work to keep the downtime to a minimum. Tells a lot about your work ethic. Thanks for the video!
Hello,
I bought my first DJI product last year for the very reason of the portability of the Mavic air.
i had a lot of issues with mine...mainly regular disconnection between the drone and the controller.
also there were a couple of fly away issues but luckily it returned to home.
Sorry to say as a result..I am not as keen about it as you and i don't use it very often.
I still keep the battery's kept charged just in case i decide to give it another try some time.
Thanks for the post but you're blaming the wrong company for the issues. The challenge isn't with the application it's with the Android OS. As I mentioned in the clip, the problem is that most companies change the Android OS and add a ton of bloatware to it which makes it impossible to certify the DJIGo 4 application. Apple keeps their OS locked so every Apple device from the iPhone 5 forward works great. I know it sound crazy but it might be worth it for you to snag a used iPhone 5 or 6 on eBay to dedicate to your quad. It will solve all of your issues. Rick
hello again,
I disagree with you there...why would my phone have anything to do with the control of the drone when i am using the dedicated controller/transmitter?
I thought that the main use of the mobile device is for telemetry/tracking and video.
Also my mobile is a high end device and i have no issue's using it with other machine's.
Thank's for your promt reply.
Excellent review!! you know what you are doing. My only little complaint is....you cover the range last and it is the biggest difference between them
great video am going to get the mavic air and this vid really helped me
Thanks for the post and I'm glad you enjoyed the clip. If you use this link to make your purchase, we receive a small commission from DJI to help support the channel - tinyurl.com/yceb938z. Stay tuned for more content, Rick
" Brilliant " The Best Quad Review I.ve Ever Seen, " You Should Be on The ISS "
You Are: The Best of The Best "
Excellent video as usual Rick, thanks so much for the effort and time you put into these clips. They help newbies like me immensely.
Just got mavic air love it think the review was great and informative. Have to do more flying, only problem doesn't fit not 9 phone real good.
Hi Rick. Hands down that was one of the best reviews I have ever watched. Just bought the Mavic air with the Fly More combo and goggles. Can't wait till it arrives. I have had the Mavic Pro since it came out and am anxious to see how they compare.
Loved the review and great job.
Ralph, thanks for the post and I'm glad you enjoyed the clip. I love flying the Mavic Air and even though I still fly the Mavic Pro a lot, the Air is with me when I travel because it's just SO easy to bring along. Let me know how you like it or if you need any accessories once you start flying it. Rick
Fantastic in depth review. Thank you for doing such a professional review.
Such a great informative video! I get my Mavic Air tomorrow. So happy now that I bought this model drone. New to drones...started Applied Media course with heavy videography/photography core weight! Wanted something higher quality that I won’t outgrow too fast. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. XO
Thanks for the post and welcome to the hobby. The Mavic Air is the perfect balance of camera quality, flight stability, ease of use and price, you're going to love it. I'll have a lot more clips posting soon on the Mavic Air and a bunch of other gear so consider subbing the channel so you don't miss anything. Be sure to post your clips somewhere on line when you start flying so others can enjoy them. Rick
Great review. I just took my Mavic Air on its first maiden flight. Though I was in my office but I was a bit nervous since it is my first drone. It was great!!
Thank you for you time ...i'm learning from you
It would have been nice if the power block and charger base were the same unit. There’s no benefit to them being separate. Also you mentioned that the antennae don’t click together; I just received mine and it clicks together just like the Mavic Pro does. They either fixed it, or maybe you weren’t pushing hard enough to get them to click together.
Hi Rick, I have the white mavic air and did not have the shaking issue that seemed so common to us in the Northeast or those in colder climates. My guess is I got lucky out of the box, but have since done all the firmware updates and all is good.
Hi Rick
Great info especially for a novice who has only owned an air for 24 hrs
Thanks 🙂
Amazing video Rick! Enjoyed watching every single part of it!
What a fantastic vlog!! Thanks rick, as always your videos are the ones that really give all the most important pieces of info!!
Thanks for the review Rick, I really enjoyed your perspective from an engineering and design point of view. Even though you only had the product for 48 hours I think it was a practical and in depth assessment. I'll have to check out some of your other videos.
I'm pretty new to this and I have a DJI Spark without the remote control and a couple year old phone that I was using to control it. Unfortunately I keep on disconnecting from the drone when I'm flying, sending the drone into RTH and that didn't even work, one time sending the drone literally hovering over a river until I retrieved it and cut my fingers up... fun. I'm still very much intrigued by the hobby and got great results on the few flights that went well. I don't want to quit but I'm a bit put off and I have questions. 1. Should I go ahead and pay another $1000 for an air fly more with goggles and such? 2. Is the lack of controller my main issue for losing connection? 3. If I'm out in the middle of nowhere with no wifi will the air still work or do I need to go for the pro? and 4. Should I just get the controller for the spark and see if that works without losing connection? Thanks in advance for any advice!
Subbed after around 30 seconds in to the video. Unique technical articulation.
Just bought mine a couple of days ago, and doing full familiarity beforehand.
Smart move! I just ordered mine last night, looking forward to tomorrow!
Thanks for the comprehensive analysis Rick. I got my Air a month ago and I'm extremely happy with it. The carry case in the Fly More version does fit the Air in its protective case in the side zipper compartment very comfortably, so maybe they upgraded it since you got yours.
Nice video. Thanks! But one tip if you're okay with it. Sit further away from the green screen, cause the reflecting light of the screen spills on the edges of you as the subject. More distance of the screen avoids this and makes a better image.. now it's a bit weird looking.
Thanks for the tip and I've moved to a larger space since then and have more room (and better lighting) so I'm hoping the new clips look better with the green screen. I appreciate you posting and hope you'll stop back soon. Rick
Excellent review. The best yet. Informative and easy to understand. Cheers.
Great review!I had not found this channel until after I bought my drone or I would have bought through your link. But what a treasure of good advice and information. Thank you so very much.
The antenae on my Mavic Air controller definitely DO clip down together
