Pronunciation note: Baobhan Sith should be pronounced closer to "bavaan shee". The letter "h' changes how other letters are pronounced in gaelic: 'b' becomes 'v' and 'th' becomes 'h', sorta. It's helpful if you think of the Baobhan Sith as a type of banshee, and that their names are pronounced similarly for a reason. Leanan sidhe, cat sith, aos si or aes sidhe, and cu sith are all similar examples of the "shee" pronunciation (sidhe is often more a "shee-uh").
I'll keep that in mind for the future! I'm not to well versed in the old Irish language, but this is helpful!
The Japanese VAs actually do a decent job on most of the names, whether gaelic or otherwise, so listening to their Summoning quotes can be useful for the pronunciation. Scathach and Fionn mac Cumhaill are also often pronounced wrong, but the Japanese is pretty close.
@@klidge I'll add that "Sith" is also less of a name and more of an honoriffic. it's something like "of the fey" in the same way that old english names are occupations like Tanner or Smith. These weren't considered names per se at the time since the name "john smith" literally meant something like "John who is a Smith". Just fun facts.
@@SvafaBlackhand My only exposure to Fionn is Fate and OSP. Is it actually pronounced "Finn McCool"? Cause I love that so much.
Seesh and thought Chinese pronunciations were confusing lol
Another representation of Shub in popular culture is a Super tier Spell used by Ains in Overlord, which he instantly kills over 100000 soldiers, sacrifices their souls, and summons five black goat footed tentacle monstrosities with a hundred mouths that cutely bleat and then tear through the remaining army in a gory fashion.
No, those are ‘her’ kids. They are summoned by the orb of death, but those are not Shub-Niggurath.
Stumbled upon this channel from describing all servants/heroic spirits in 3 words.... You earned a sub dude XD also love these Behind the Servant series its pretty entertaining and educational lol XD
Same
me: i want to read lovecraft
lovecraft: *does/says more horrifying things than his own creations*
me: i don’t want to read lovecraft
Too bad Nasu doesn't do collabs because i would so totally whale for Chyino-neesan if she's ever released
This video needs more views... (I can relate...) Also, amazing video my dude.
Thanks for the video! ^~^
Only correction I can think of is cthulhus relation to the town of innsmouth, Dagon is more of the progenitor of what happens to the town.
Just didn't want people reading the story and end up disappointed by the lack of Cthulhu.
Honestly, I never noticed the racism in Shub's name. I was more distracted by Lovecraft's goddamn cat.
The Barghest is a mythological descendant of the Cat Sith: the Green Hounds which in Scottish/Irish folklore serve the same roll but have a little more detail to their lore.
Same but instead is my most favorite horror writer. Can't say the same for his personality though
oh hey, the knights templar were accused of worshipping baphomet. neat detail i guess
I believe there is a story of the barghest has a historical story where one left a burn mark on a church door after running into town
Ane Naru Mono or the Sister of the woods of the Thousand Youngs is a really H-manga. Now is it wHolesome or Horny is up to which version you've read. Both the versions are good tho
7:09 Yep that's the black shuck
Time to go watch that anime again
I'm late to this, but I saw Barghest so clicked on it
Holy fuck, 10:53 genius addition
Fun fact, there is no known connection between the name of Shub-Niggurath and a similar-sounding racist word, it is far more likely that Lovecraft was using the Latin word for “black” as a base, black the color, the literal color black, so no, as much as it may sound like a very loaded and similar-sounding word, there is no causal relationship between Shub-Niggurath’s name and the other similar-sounding word that is known. The only basis we have to go off of is that Lovecraft was a white supremacist and believed in assimilation, but I’m here to tell you that correlation doesn’t equal causation and that it is far more likely to be referring to another thing entirely, the name for the color black in Latin, and yes, that is where the roots for the word that I will mention but never say are in, it comes from the Latin word for black, which is likely why it sounds so similar to Shub-Niggurath’s name.
Lol Bargas
not sure if this is true for the lobo we summon but during the events of shinjuku he also got fused with the invisible man
It is! Thanks papa Moriarty for our cool invisible clifford
I wanted to get into the Lovecraftian stories! Is there any books I can get to learn more?!
If you just want Lovecraft, his entire collection is in the public domain at the hplovecraft website. There’s a whole archive of everything! Robert Chamber is another contributed to the mythos
@@klidge AMAZING! Can't wait to read it. This will help my future foreigner hype and my vtuber lore! Thanks so much!
I REALLY think you should add foreigner tags into the video's description or however it's done for it to work, it mesmerizes me how this video won't show up if you look it up as "Fate foreigner explained" or even "klidge foreigner".
I swear no one knows how to pronounce Jaques de Molay.
It's like Jack. Only with a Spanish LL sound. If you don't know what that it, it's like a Y + SH
You should do Edison because the American singularity lost me and I still don't get why he's a lion thing
Do you remember the lion roaring at the start of some tv shows? Pretty sure it really is just that. Since he kinda messed around a lot with films
what's the name of pochi sensei's manga you menitoned?
Ane Naru Mono
what is that lovecraft creature gif
If I had an answer I'd give it to you
@@klidge From what I can tell it looks to be distorted image of a baby fox bat
16:29 is the one in the servant card an actual servant
Unfortunately no. But the sauce is iida pochi sensei
@@klidge she has a nice design
Do nobu please
Can do! Might be a bit but I'll put her in the doc
