  • When I picked up a set of the Flow EVO+ kneepads a few years ago, I quickly feel in love with their comfort and breathability. They were still going strong two years later when my dog Norah got ahold of one of them and ripped it to shreds.
    So, in June 2020, as I went to pick up a new set of Evo+ pads, I saw the Trigger knee pad. I had previously thought about getting something better suited to faster, scarier trails that protected more of my leg, and the Trigger looked like a nice balance of a pedal friendly design and increased protection.
    Today, IXS has what they are calling the Trigger Race knee pad, which features a refined design as compared to the regular Trigger, so I wanted to bring you all along and check out what they brought in from the old pads and what they added to the new.

    I found that the flow plus mesh in the back of the pad rips holes easily. Just with normal use. Set will last you a year. They should use stronger thread for that area.

    These look great. Looking for something that is comfortable when pedaling as I wear knee pads 100% of my riding. Any comparison between these and the Dakine Slayers? Those have been my go to for years.

    • @FanatikBikeCo
      @FanatikBikeCo  3 года назад +1

      I haven't run the Slayers since the original model (they have been updated since then) but that experience had me swear them off. They weren't terribly form fitting and therefore were not very comfy, but the biggest problem I had was that when I really needed them they'd move around. They also just didn't last very long.
      Try the Flow Evo+. The strap above the calf keeps them where they need to be without the discomfort of a strap on your upper leg. They are super well ventilated, and fit like a glove. A really good glove.

    My riding partner just bought these and immediately returned them... The upper strap goes right over your tendons behind the knee and are not pedal friendly.. : ( I love my flow evos though..

    • @FanatikBikeCo
      @FanatikBikeCo  3 года назад +1

      Dang, I'm bummed to hear that! The Flow Evos are the comfiest ones I've tried, although in my *personal* experience I've found the Triggers to be fine for all day use, but hotter and yea, less comfy because of that strap. Not so much that they were a deal-breaker for me, but everyone's different. Hopefully they were able to find something that works well for them.

    Hi Dan, I am also between the sizes (M - L) and not sure which size will fit. In M - Right leg fits perfectly, left leg a bit tide - cause my right leg is slimmer due to an injury years ago. Do they wear out a lot when I am wearing them constantly? Thanks.

    I have the fox enduro, and have experienced them ripping at the back from riding with flats. They just completely gave out and ripped the other day. Will the ixs flow Evo plus have this problem?

    • @FanatikBikeCo
      @FanatikBikeCo  3 года назад

      Yes, it's a light, breathable mesh, so your pedal pins will tear it. Any kneepad with that type of material on the back, which most of those designed to be comfortable while pedaling have, will tear from those sharp pins. You can try the Race Face Ambush pads, which is less comfy to pedal in but very easy to take on and off (no shoe removal required), which would avoid that. Then you can just put them on at the top. - Dan at Fanatik

      Same same but better! They stay up on your leg better, and are a comfier because you don't have to cinch them down as tight. The extra hard shell on the knee is nice as well, makes em feel a little safer.

    sizing/fit recommendations?

    • @FanatikBikeCo
      @FanatikBikeCo  3 года назад

      Yes, I found my leg (I measured 44cm slightly above the knee, as they recommend) to fit well in a Medium pad, although they recommended Large or Extra Large. The disparity is so large that I'm actually wondering if they've changed the sizing from when I bought my pads, although that seems unlikely.
      One thing to remember is that we do have free return shipping on apparel and protection, so if the fit is wrong you can return it for free.

      Any update on the sizing?

    • @FanatikBikeCo
      @FanatikBikeCo  3 года назад +2

      @@notantosh626 Yes, actually. I just bought a new set of the Flow EVO+ pads for longer/more pedally rides, and went with the mediums I had before. They fit very snuggly, and if my leg was really any larger, they'd be too small. So, their sizing suggestion that my leg would be a large is a good one. For example, the black Trigger Race I'm wearing in this video's thumbnail is a large, and seemed comfortable in a parking lot test (although the Trigger pads I own are also medium and fit well). It seems I'm basically in between sizes (44cm as measured 5 or 6 cm above the top of my knee cap).
      Hopefully that is helpful, feel free to ask if you have more Qs!
