If you’ve ever bought those air fresheners that have the gel beads inside, after they’ve dried up, empty out the container, clean them up and reuse them. Since they already have the lids cut out, They’re great for this idea. I also used one to hold baking soda and put it in my fridge. It looks nicer than having just an open box of baking soda sitting in there. Thanks for sharing your wisdom! Much appreciated!
Thank you so much! As soon as she said fabric softener I thought; no. Now, I'm not familiar with these bead products, who makes them? Also, about how much dried lavender and where do you buy that? Actually - if you don't mind - can I just have your recipe with measurements? ☺
When I was a young kid, in school we made little air fresheners for our moms for Holidays. We used cloves in an apple and orange and decorated it with ribbon to hang, and fancy stick pins. I was so proud to give to my mom. I can still smell it today, and I’m 64. Mmmmmmmm..........
I would use all the ingredients mentioned except the fabric softener which I never use...I prefer to use Mint Oil Essential Oil in some oil from the kitchen to mix it into a moist mixture...Thank you for this idea for clean fresh air in the home
I agree about Fab Soft, never use on towels or any fabric that needs to absorbent because the Fab Soft leaves a coating which will build.. I do use it sometimes for clothes but have a well watered down version I mix myself. Its so not good for the water quality or the seas.. Those dreadful plastic scented "balls" also. Fish are being poisoned! I have pets & never forget their sense of smell is hundred of times more sensitive than ours. I think if thongs are kept clean & fairly uncluttered a home does not need to be "perfumed" all the time as Melissa mentioned.
I love cloves. As a child, at Christmas time my mother and I would poke cloves into oranges or clementines and set them by the fireplace and in the kitchen. I’m having a big birthday party this weekend for my daughter so it’s the perfect time to make this to keep the loo smelling fresh. Thanks for sharing!
You also could use a nail and hammer to make holes in the jar lid with the lid off the jar. I would be afraid of ruining and dulling my knife. After making holes from the top down, turn the lid upside down on a hard, flat surface with a piece of cloth under it (so the lid won’t get scratched) and use the hammer to flatten the sharp edges of the holes punched by the nail and hammer.
I've a bottle opener, you know the sort? for beer bottles ect. The other side of it has a triangle point that is used to pierce jars/tins. That works well. We used to use it to open the carnation milk for poring.
I think this is a great idea. Salt is good on many levels and I absolutely love the smell of cloves and orange essential oil. Thank you so much for sharing
Many people are allergic to fabric softener, even unscented. I have asthma and breathing the chemical in fabric softener (and most cleaning products) triggers attacks. Many of us who suffer from chemical triggered asthma can’t even go near the cleaning and laundry isles in the grocery store. I suggest using real lavender, even essential oils would be a good alternative. Will be trying this with the essential oil. Thanks for posting and love how pretty this looks. Looking forward to more of your videos.
I'm so glad to hear someone else can't enter laundry soap aisle in a grocery store. I hold my breath and walk in to get out with the unscented stuff i need, and get out quick.
A hammer and nail would be safer to puncture the lid. Take it off the jar and put the lid on a piece of wood before hammering. I love this idea with the cloves and orange! Thank you for sharing!
Love homemade products, as I seem to be sensitive to most chemicals. Several years ago, I found small containers that already had cut outs, like those used in restaurants for Parmesan or Red Pepper Flakes. Thanks for sharing.
We have soaked synthetic wigs in fabric softener to soften them and the whole room smells amazing for the 1-2 days. I’ve been looking for another way to use fabric softener to make a room smell good, I am so glad I came across this video to give it a try! Thank you!
Spice jars, like cinnamon, have a shaker top, grated Parmesan, wash and save container. Diatomaceous earth, will absorb the essential oil, takes a long time to dry out, just re-moisten and keep going. Cloves are excellent to repel wasps, save the little bags that garlic comes in, fill to make a sac of cloves to be used for a nice scent or baseboards to repel insects and rodents. Doesn’t seem to work long term to keep dog walkers away, though.
Thank you for sharing this lovely idea. Would it not have been easier to make the mixture in a dish which is would make stirring less difficult. Then you can transfer to mixture to your chosen container. To get the correct amount of salt for your container, just put the salt in first them pour it into the mixing dish. Add the other ingredients and stir well. Transfer mixture to your chosen decorative diffuser.
Fabric softeners have un-named “perfumes” that are actually toxic chemicals - “perfume” can be made from these toxic chemicals. A lot of things around the home have this “perfume” - shampoo, detergent etc. I have gotten rid of all these and use only natural products.
I would use a soldering iron for making the holes, and I would mix all the ingredients in a disposable bowl then add to the jar. I'm going to try this.

I've had a bat flying around in my home 3 years in a row. Having researched a little since then, I learned they can squeeze into the tiniest openings. I'm on the 3rd floor outside a tree they hang out in, though I haven't seen them in a while. The thing is, they're beneficial, so I refuse to try to get rid of them (except from my condo!😁). And they're always desperate to get back out.
This seems good :) but just make sure to swap out any citrus smells! Most dogs and cats hate that smell! (That's why it's used to deter them in gardens xD)
Try scooping the boxes twice a day. Once a week, dump out the litter- all of it- and wash the pans with soap, water and after drying add baking soda before litter. Yes u will use more litter, but that is the price u should be willing to pay for being a responsible pet parent.
Excellent coverage. This also gave me the idea of putting one in my car especially since I smoke cigars. Question..how long does it last before it’s time to replace it, also can you make several at one time but have a closed lid for future use?

Do not use fabric softener. Use real lavender or essential oils instead.
Wssential oils are volatile and evaporate off to quickly
Fabric softerners should be banned cuz they are not good for the washing machine either😅🙄😖
I'd rather add more essential oils often, then breath toxins in my air.
Educate me please. What is wrong with the fabric softener? I don't know.
@@soulofjo what could be used instead?
Can i use only essential oil without the fabric softener? Thanks, lovely tutorial.
Yes you can dear 😘
Can I use Epsom salts instead of rock salt?
I’m sure you can! The scented foot soaks use Epsom Salt. I will try it myself and will save my sea salt 😉
I bet water soften er salt would work, too.
Comments please from someone who has used this great recipe. Up to you whether you use conditioner, but it would be great to know how long and how effective this recipe in its entirety actually is! Anyone?
Great recipe except for the fabric softener . I’m allergic to all those awful laundry detergent odours so as others have suggested.. I’ll definitely be using essential oils only
Great 👍 I hope you like it 😊 dear
I’m allergic to lots of detergent and fabric softeners. But no one should be breathing in fabric softener. 👍
I love the smell of cloves. Instead of blending several scents, would it work if .I just used s
salt and cloves?
Can we use normal salt?
Yes you can ❤️
I absolutely LOVE your accent!!
Fabric softener is garbage. Do NOT use it.
Agree. It is not good for the lungs.
What would be good to use?
@@CCCCCCCCCCCmany I’d use just the essential oil.
Puan, bagus. Simple and easy to do. Lots of people will benefit from your video.
Thank you so much dear I appreciate your support
Thank you! This is very helpful. We may be putting our house on the market, and we have an adorable but very stinky little dog! Having a few of these lovely salty sachets dotted throughout the house when realtors bring potential buyers around will be a big help. I am just now subscribing! 🙋🏻♀️
@@carollynt Maybe if you are hiding a dead body smell. People do things like bake cookies etc to have a nice smell in your house for prospective buyers.
@@carollynt seriously where t u that people are suing for this reason 😔?
@@carollynt Dead bodies. Yes. Mold. Yes. Smoke smells. Yes. Rotted wood. Yes. Mildew…maybe. Helping to minimize the smells of the cat box? No. The dog? No. Cooking smells? No. Smells that leave when the seller leaves? No.
Wipe all surfaces over with a combination of hot water and white vinegar, should help to reduce the smell. The vinegar evaporates as long as you have good ventilation. It can also help to reduce the impact on people with allergies.
@@dotcassilles1488 Open plates of apple cider vinegar, works within hours.
Also apple cider vinegar for fruit flies …they come to see and fall in, people spray for pantry moths, no need, use ACV where they’ve been seen.
Odors of any kind….potted plants, don’t put the plants up against the wall…move them a few feet from the wall, and at varying heights. Old couch smell….vacuum slowly and use plants around. Take cushions off before bed….use the plants on trays on and around the well vacuumed upholstery.. few times, smells are gone.
I am definitely going to try your recipe! Looks great. Do you have any recipes that work to lessen the smell of second hand smoke? Many cheers. Peace.
Have the smoker smoke outside.
first time here and I love ur video thanks u so much
Thank you so much dear 😘
It would be nice with a thin ribbon tied around the bottom of the lid and tied in a bow ! Thank you for your wonderful idea 😊
Amazing imagination gives me a very beautiful pot of natural deodoriser, thank you for the beautiful idea 💡
If you run a woven natural ribbon through the air vents it would wick the aromatic essence.
Just need to cloves and I'm trying this one.
Hide it behind a plant or picture
What about using beach sand in a jar infused with bits of pepperoni and transmission oil ?
You can try that dear one
You may be making a joke, but I think my ex- would love that scent! 😁 he's an old Volkswagen mechanic!
Could I use Epson salt in place of sea salt?
At Odd Lots/Big Lots you can buy lavender sea salt.
What else can I use besides fabrixc softner as I do not use that. Tks
Can i add dried lavender instead of cloves
I would say that you certainly can, But I would Not Entirely skip the Cloves without Substituting Cinnamon, because they repel insects such as, but not limited to, Mosquitoes, ants, fleas, Bedbugs, as well as being an anti-fungal agent and anti-mildew and a slug repellent.
Great 👍 dear, you can do as you please 🙏 😀 👍 😊 ok
Great teacher, thanks for sharing. Joy- Nigeria
Awww thank you so Joy 😊 happy to have you there 😊
Very clear and a great idea !
Thank you mam! actually I'm looking for this video. Love you mam!
You welcome 🙏 🤗
Great video❤ I’m always looking for DIY aromatics that are budget friendly and recycling glass containers 💜
How much is the measure of fabric softener, please?
Top Tip: If you're tempted to lick the spoon afterwards, don't.
Smart one 👌 👍 👏
Can’t we use kitchen salts, stasoft ,cloves and alcohol?
How long does the scent last? I have Himalayan sea salt would that work with it?
Wondering the same thing, maybe after it dries out we should dampen it with 1 or 2 tablespoons of water and stir it again.
Love it. How long will it last ?
Hi and thank you for this DIY. What can you use instead of cloves????
You can buy cloves in the spice aisle at the supermarket. My Sprouts grocery store has a bulk spice section, and they are cheaper there.
Okay I feel silly. I’ve wasted a lot of money and I don’t like spending lots of money when I could have made it myself. Wow! Thank you. I’ve subscribed.
Great 👍 thanks so much 🙏
