      Didgeridoo players typically learn how to wail while they buzz their lips playing the instrument. Not sure if Colin Stetson may have adopted this technique from them, but the Australian aboriginals were known to have gotten as much as they could out of the didgeridoos they crafted from termite-carved wood. They've also used the didgeridoo as a percussion instrument while playing, making the player into a one-man band just like Colin Stetson is here.

This is SO beautiful (in the nontraditional sense of the word), and, really, there couldn't have been any other music more fitting for a thing like Uzumaki. I don't think anybody could disagree. Stetson is criminally talented. Words cannot express how his creation makes me feel (not to mention the masterful soundtrack for Hereditary).

  • @fafflerproductions
    @fafflerproductions Год назад +12

    I remember when I did research on him for a project in one of my classes one thing he said really stood out to me. He said something along the lines of falling in love with doing music wrong on purpose.
    It made me realize that there's a balance of predictability and chaos to music and that I love music that skews towards the side of chaos, but doesn't sound very unnatural and out of place.
    Among the sef is an extremely good example of what I'm talking about. It's very chaotic and all over the place. Yet it still feels like every note shares it's place with one another.
    I can think of 3 artists that push that line past where they should be but still sound beautiful. Colin Stetson, Flume, and Porter Robinson.
    Flume pioneered multiple sub-genres of edm and is genuinely a genius when it comes to music. Porter dabbles a bit in experimental stuff but it always sounds good. His song dullscythe is a really good example of that. And he incorporates a lot of unconventional stuff in his normal songs, like the breakdown in mirror. Colin stetson is pushing that line pretty hard. Some of it hits, some of it misses. But I don't listen to saxophone solos (or really any band type music), and I go to listen to some of his songs every so often.
    He's pretty incredible at bending the line of what makes music "music"

    Holy shit. How is this even possible? Hell, even the groaning noises are from the sax. It feels like a bunch of pieces of music being edited together. I mean he’s able to make so may distinct sounds all at once. Fuck!
    Edit: typo

    His performance in this video conveys a lot of different emotions compared to the original for me, this one feels like a soaring, triumphant spectacle roaring to life in front of me, every peak is just higher than the last, it’s almost fantastical, while the original feels so much more somber and hopeless and terrifying and I don’t even know what it is but I’m in love with it

    the way this song is composted is so cool to me, it totally sounds like a doppler effect. it feels like the sound is moving around and around in my head.....kind of like a....spiral😳
