Give him a break. The kid was nervous as hell and he was having a hard time keeping the emotions from taking over. Chuck meant a lot to guys like you and me, but to him he was his uncle and a lifetime hero. Not exactly easy for him to maintain a clear mind there.
ALL of the DM guys are nice guys! whether its Erik Rutan Alex Webster Azagthoth Immolation Deicide Vader whatever DM band., why the fuck would they be assholes? same as NILE: the most friendly social people ever met! so down to earth and Krisiun too! the music is brutal. but the people are totally cool friendly FAAAAR from arrogant like malmsteen or metallica.
I enjoyed what he said about how he keeps the guitar on a stand like any other guitar. I can't stand when people spend shit loads of money on a guitar just to keep it in some cryo-chamber. Guitars are meant to be played and worn in and fucked up. IMO you're honoring chuck more by shredding his axe rather than not.
I met Chuck on his last tour and seen him live. He was all smiles and super friendly to a 17 year old super fan (me). I'll never forget the brief moments we shared.
I met Chuck and James on the Spiritual healing tour. I was around 13 or 14 and they were my heroes. I must have been incredibly annoying but they were super cool.
Typical, Chuck needed money for a life saving operation which he couldn't afford yet some prick couldn't wait to offer $125,000 for his guitar once he snuffed it...sick world.
@@SanitysVoid My understanding was that it was but he couldn't afford the surgery and/or the recovery bills. In any case, its pretty scummy. Chris says he was like a son to Chuck, and thats why he got the guitars. It wasn't about playing metal, it wasn't about Chris being a fan, it was about him being family and being interested in guitars. And then somebody decides they would like it to lock it up in a glass display to say they own Chuck's guitar. Its pretty sad to try and buy a memento from a deceased famous person, from the family member who inherited it. As OP implies, throughout 1999 and 2000, musicians all around were fundraising to raise money for Chuck since health insurance wasn't covering it because it was "pre-existing prior to taking the policy". The money could've been useful then, but of course the guitar is worth more when he's dead, which makes it pretty terrible.
he turned down 100k for it. thats so incredible, you can see the love and pain he has as he talks about his uncle. Born too late to meet Chuck but his music is eternal
I met Chuck a few times, the one time that really stands out was @ the Bayou in DC [Georgetown] During the 'Spiritual Healing" Tour,Most bands would Bail out the back door as soon as they were done playing,NOT Death, and especially NOT Chuck,as soon as he got done playing,he just walked right down to the bar and started hanging out with everyone, signing autographs & taking pictures with all his fans,& just hung out with us,he was VERY soft spoken & almost shy in a way,Chuck was a Class Act.
So glad he didn't sell that beauty/beast. Just showing what kind of a person he is really. Really honoring Chucks memory by keeping and most importantly playing the guitar.
Thanks for the interview man. Your uncle changed the game forever. I have the highest level of respect for him. And he is probably the most respected man and one of the best guitar players in the history of the genre. Everyone is always praising Dimebag Darrell and Dave Mustaine but not Chuck. And it's another reason why I respect him so much. Chuck didn't go mainstream because he wanted to be an innovator. He did what he loved and the death metal community will remember him forever. But for now, Chuck is one of, if not my absolute favorite guitarist to ever walk this Earth. He was a true talent and it's still sad today that he got sick so young because he seemed to be a kind man, like alot of us metal guys are. But Chuck Got what he deserved as far as going down in history as the first TRUE death metal man. R.I.P.
This just further makes me realize that we HAVE to find cures for cancer... I don't think Chuck would want us to mourn him. Just play his music and appreciate the messages he tried to give people... so long as we continue to feel his music, and to think about the things he wanted to tell us, he will never die.
I ran into Chuck in Orlando Kiss convention 1994 or 95 ..... didnt know who he was , my freind told me because he was into Death . I just knew he had some KISS goodies & was a reason to talk to him. It was odd that he was so freindly & surprisingly mellow & cool.
Awesome to hear some personal things about Chuck from a family member it opens up a glimpse into the person Chuck Schuldiner was outside of his band!! And think it's cool that his nephew is into what his uncle did for metal
Chuck is a great person to look up to, as a musician and a person, which is rare. Even though he was awesome, he was always modest about it. I'm glad he actually added emotion and what he truly felt in his music, which is what music truly is, its not an industry, which is was most bands and musicians fail to realize...
You're right, he will always be a grear role model. Im proud my son his named Charles because of him. BTW sorry to reply 13 years later, I hope life was good to you
i love that he actually uses the guitar and not just put it away this amazed me to actually play it and give it the respect of playing chuck is my hero the day that i first heard him play i was a fan since the day that i saw him i wanted i guitar like his and i wanted to play and innovate like him R.I.P chuck
Love hearing about, Chuck ... I'd have loved to have known him. His music is my Bible ... I have, Chuck's signiture, Tribute stealth ... such and awesome design and my main Axe.
I was so bloody close to see him live in 1999 in Poland on the Metalmania festival. We were all so excited for weeks... I still remember when we got there after long hours of travelling and suddenly they informed us that due to Chucks poor health, Death wasn't going to play. I was so crashed, so close to experiencing my dream band (live), but had no idea how serious this news turned out to be. I often wonder ( with sadness) "How amazing and exciting would be his next album, or the one after that one...??"😟
I'm not too informed on the subject so take this with a grain of salt but, after this album, Chuck was supposedly considering moving on from Death and getting more involved with Control Denied, and getting more mellow with cleaner vocals, of course if he was alive I would respect these decisions since musicians are ever evolving, but Control Denied isn't my cup of tea, nor are Chuck's demo clean vocals for Sound of Perseverance.
I guess people who were born on May 13 are really connected to their families(Chuck and Ritchie Valens are born on that date).I was born on May 13,too,and because of Chuck and the person he was I`m proud of it !!! Rest in Peace Chuck !
back in 2001 i was like 6 years old , but if i was older or even aware i could have sent every last inch of my pocket money to chucks treatment , am really really sad about his death :( , RIP Chuck we miss you
I am very glad that Chucks mom gave you that Guitar...I spoke with her after Chuck passed and I remember her trouble with the med bills.....Hold on to that for life my friend. Cheers Randy Immortal Terror 90'
Awesome. Interesting and amazing interview. Thanks for posting it. Much appreciated. Rest In Peace to Chuck and may Chris have a long and wonderful life.
wowwo we always remeber you chuck death metal's philosofer ............... we miss you a lot and thanks to keep that bc rich custom guitar from your uncle buddy we really apreciate cheers from Peru Danilo!
What's up Chris? I met Chris at a Hatebreed Show, House of Blues Orlando. I was wearing a Death Symbolic shirt which stimulated the conversation. RIP Chuck.
I thought Chuck was 34 when he passed away. You'd think this guy would know this considering he's Chuck's nephew. And as far as the story with the doctor... what a thoughtless bastard. There is nothing on this earth that would make me consider even thinking of doing something like that. Outrageous.
Chuck died really young... man... could you just imagine the revolution he would have made in the heavy metal if he continued alive?!?! I mean... listen to Sound of Perseverance and The Fragile Art of Existence... MASTERPIECES!!! There is nothing like that and I bet my life that there will be nothing like that in the next 10 or 20 years... Chuck was far ahead of his time...
I don't know man. That response makes me kind of nervous 😓 I suppose we all make mistakes. My father always calls me by my sister's name firstly. Almost always ✌💔🙇
God of metal bless your precious blood man, i wish for you and your family all the bless a family can recover through out the years, just 18 years of fighting to overcome that Shadow Mr. Shuldiner left is not enough, but still have all our hearts to pump strenght when you need it
I bought a Symbolic tour shirt off Jane Schuldiner and sent her a note with the order...she sent me a couple cards back thanking me : )...I definitely cherish those cards. Too bad I moved two times and while I deliberately made sure I still had those two cards, I remember packing them...I can't find them now. Fail on my part...or fail on something else.
Chris-mad props to you man for not selling the guitar. I can tell from Chuck's memorial video and from interviews that you guys were close. Ive been a Death fan since I bought "Leprosy" on cassete way back in the day. Did you rememeber what studio albums you sat in on at Morrisound? Did you ever meet Bill Andrews or Rick Rozz? Any idea what those guys are up to? Let the metal flow
dude, he was a boyscout? so am i, thought it is startng to fall from favor for me, he is and still is an amazing guitarist, becuase he still shreds in heaven
Man he is having trouble getting the words out you can tell how painful it is to when he starts talking about his uncle.. he seemed to try to talk more about the guitar when he could.
The fact that he turned down 125k for that guitar shows how much he loved his uncle.
Give him a break. The kid was nervous as hell and he was having a hard time keeping the emotions from taking over.
Chuck meant a lot to guys like you and me, but to him he was his uncle and a lifetime hero. Not exactly easy for him to maintain a clear mind there.
Chuck just proves you can write brutal heavy riffs and still be a nice guy. Got a lot of respect for him.
👍
Lmao, as if playing heavy music suddenly makes you a prick
How did chuck die and on what age did chuck die
he says it in the video.

Can you share this experience with me
I met Chuck and James on the Spiritual healing tour. I was around 13 or 14 and they were my heroes. I must have been incredibly annoying but they were super cool.
Nephew says he never heard him curse, was extremely respectful of his mother, took his grandmother shopping....what a guy!
Typical, Chuck needed money for a life saving operation which he couldn't afford yet some prick couldn't wait to offer $125,000 for his guitar once he snuffed it...sick world.
I thought the tumor was inoperable?
Not to mention that prick was a fucking DOCTOR.

@@monkeyliver1986
I heard he sold it later though - not sure if that's true.
You can hear strong emotions in his voice.
From his eyes I can see how much of a hard time he is having when talking about his uncle. RIP Chuck, may your legacy live on for years and years.
he turned down 100k for it. thats so incredible, you can see the love and pain he has as he talks about his uncle. Born too late to meet Chuck but his music is eternal
You're awesome Chris for not selling that guitar. You have a piece of metal history in your hands and you should keep it in your possession forever.

Many of us missing your uncle Chris. He was something out of this wierd world.
...He kidnapped our souls and left. :-(

Chuck was my hero man. So metal yet such a humble dude

I respect that. Stopping by his mom's to take her shopping.
I love watching interviews with Chuck because there is actually point to what he is saying, not just cursing like many other metal musicians.
This just further makes me realize that we HAVE to find cures for cancer... I don't think Chuck would want us to mourn him. its called symbolic, from the album also named symbolic ;)
The icon in the lower left hand corner is awesome. It could make a bad ass tattoo.
Hopefully Chris as he is already showing signs, will continue the legacy of Chuck.
maybe you were nervous but your uncle died at 34 what a shame!
And he said he died in late 2000. He was very nervous though

That pickup is not the X2n. It looks like the Dimarzio Super Distortion.
Solo a vederlo con quella chitarra in mano mi vengono i brividi....
just wondering the pickup in the one chris is holding is different to the that bc rich sell whatpickups is in chriss one
God bless you Chris. I hope you Never get rid of that guitar

Yeah he was true. Not fake. R.I.P Chuck, the biggest inspiration for me. As a guitarist and a human being.
I'm getting one of those tribute guitars as soon as I have the money, which will be by this summer. I want it so bad..
why are people thumbing down this? its true, if that doctor was such a huge fan of chucks, he should've saved him
We miss you so much Chuck!!! :'(
I'm sure this has been asked before, but what's with the pickup in that thing? Chuck used X2N's
You can see a bit of Chuck in his eyes.
where is the x2n pickup?
That is killer brother! Yeah, keep that guitar for life he would be proud!
Not quite. It was his birthday May 13th 1999 that he was diagnosed.
Respect beyond belief
he made kickass music, and he was a nice guy, damn chuck, that alone makes you cooler than modern musicians..
I bought a Symbolic tour shirt off Jane Schuldiner and sent her a note with the order...she sent me a couple cards back thanking me : )...I definitely cherish those cards. at 1:52, look at the pickup. Did this kid change the pickup? I thought Schuldiner used a DiMarzio X2N.
idk why i reply to this after 11 years but yeah he changed it because the original X2N was broken.
Chuck was an amazing guitarist
money can't buy tallent 'n' passion well done mate chuck is very proud of keep up the good work \../
And it was a doctor that offered it. :\
you have a lot of heart, man.
I know, That was weird. Kind of wondering now if Chuck actually recorded with the X2N or not....
Good looking kid.
Leprosy man. Leprosy is my favorite. It has a great album cover.
only the good die young and chuck was beautiful human being RIP chuck there will never be a human like you :)
i wonder if it has the same strings?
There will never be another. Also, the guitar.
this is so cool... i love this vid... RIP chuck
Does anyone know what the song is and what the album is starting at 1:42?
oh gosh, his nephew is grown up, how time goes by.
Man he is having trouble getting the words out you can tell how painful it is to when he starts talking about his uncle.. he seemed to try to talk more about the guitar when he could.
