I grew up in the central Florida area and was lucky enough to meet Chuck and got to see Death play 5 times before the "Spiritual Healing" album. What made Chuck so very cool to me was that, after meeting him a couple of times at a record store, he actually remembered me by name. He was a quiet guy, but when he did talk with his nasal/almost squeaky voice, he was funny enough to be a stand-up comic. Chuck and Death almost single handedly made me a metalhead for life. Those were days I miss a lot.
he can talk and have a full conversation about his idol and still play 100x times better than when i sit down and am fully concentrated on my guitar. damn hes good.
Pat's a real dude too, he's often not appreciated but I always was inspired by this guys musicianship and skills as a composer. Respect to Chuck as well RIP, I think I will put on a Death album now.
crystaltarot1 Chuck is one of the greatest humans this planet has ever experienced. He still holds the light of authenticity in a lot of ways as I see it.
Yea, it's really hard not to noodle when you're holding a guitar and talk to someone. I do it all the time and people get pissed. One of my friends actually got up from the sofa, walked across the room, took the guitar away from me and said: "Let's finish talking about this and then you get back to your noodling and playing." I was pissed off a little bit but it was funny too.
Chuck WAS insured. His insurers denied cover since it was deemed a pre-existing condition. ' in May 2001, the cancer returned and Schuldiner fell ill again. He was originally denied surgery (which he needed immediately) due to lack of funds.' ... 'Schuldiner had gotten medical insurance after his first surgery, but the insurer had refused to pay because the tumor existed before he had gotten the insurance.'
Excellent interview I'm a new Pat O'Brien fan just saw him with CANNIBAL CORPSE live in Fort Lauderdale,Florida (Plese comeback to South Fla.) and to actually find out that He knew Chuck from DEATH (I was a big fan of Chuck's) ,as a CANNIBAL CORPSE fan I find it very ,very kool and it does make sense that i got into both types of bands, those are two very intense bands, keep supporting DEATH and THRASH METAL,just SUPPORT METAL ,PERIOD!!!
Great video, he actually mentioned something about Death's legendary concert in Chile back in '98 where Cannibal Corpse, Death and Incantation played that night
@DougHittTV: I was just making sure. The reason Pat never plays any of the guitar solos is that he has more attack so therefore he plays the rhythm. Even though on the albums he is the one who usually records both guitars. I found that out from the Bonus DVD that comes with 'Evisceration Plague' if I remember correctly.
sandals is a nice addition to being live haha R.I.P Chuck, he sounds like a really cool guy :D didnt expect him to be quiet and reserved, horns up to Death and Schuldiner!
The new stealth looks badass I think it will be my next guitar I think there sold for 1000 bucks if schuldiner was alive today his solos could melt you're face so much you would have to be hospitalized
@tomschrauwen its not exploiting his death at all,its a honor to play that guitar. Its a way for fans to remember him. My friend has that exact model and its fuckin awesome.
I worked with Pat in construction! He told me the day Cannibal talked to him about an audition. I told him he would be stupid not to do it ... fuck Monstrosity... good deal Pat!
Pat is my favorite guitarist he got fucking good skills i always get tired when im playing one of his songs hes probably the best guitarist in my opinion
guitar tourettes. Chuck is seriously my hero! I was HEAVULY influenced by Chuck. Im saving my money for one of these guitars. I only wish I got the chance to meet Chuck, he just seemed so down to earth. R.I.P CHUCK!!!
@KillJoy353 Dude they are special! if they werent they wouldnt be the biggest selling death metal band of all time! maybe its not special now but back then they were the fucking shit!
pats skills actually shine through on this vid... on all the cannibal albums he sounds like a slightly better kerry king.. which isnt alot when it comes to solos... i respect kerrys riffage however!! :D pat really should do some more melodic solos on cannibals next album cause the same random fucking notes spread out and tremelo picking gets old REALLY fucking fast.
i was in that show in santiago de Chile, 98 i think jejeje was amazing Death played almost 2.30 Hours whit a drum solo from R5ichard Christy (10 minutes) , also Cannibal Coprse, Incantation and Dorso Performed that day
@BabyEviscerator Yeah he was in Nevermore on the "Politics of Ecstasy" record. 1997...which is one of their best in my opinion. It's the thrashiest and one of the angriest.
Watching Pat talk reminds me of Skwisgaar, always messing with the guitar... haha :) Much love to Corpse and Death. I would say RIP Chuck, but he's far from dead-- his body may be, but Death is still very very much alive.
Okay, when are CC gonna give Pat an extended solo section in a song? I mean come on at least a minute! The solos in that band last like 20 seconds at most, not that that's a bad thing, but come on they've had some good players.
He doesnt just deserve a guitar! he deserves to be in the rock n roll hall of fame and madame Tussaud because i dont think that any other person would have kept going if they were criticized as much as chuck was. the people really slammed deathmetal when death was founded, it was he who managed to make it famous and remove the insane philosophy that it was some kind of occult or whatever
Nothing's wrong with Chris, it's just that a lot of people say that the only time CC was good was when he was in the band, which isn't true. CC has written some very good material with Fisher.
That's just Pat's sound. The guitar itself is made of alder and mahogany, which naturally bring out the lows without messing too much with the mids or highs. The Dimarzio X2N has a pretty bass-y sound as well. Pat's rig is usually set with the highs at 10 haha.

hes got like tourettes of the guitar lol. Just spastc playing while he's talkin. Love it \m/
I DIDN'T KNOW PAT COULD SHRED SO WELL
yep
it was insanely distracting!!
he can talk and have a full conversation about his idol and still play 100x times better than when i sit down and am fully concentrated on my guitar.
damn hes good.
I believe Pat can play solos even if he is asleep......... he's a machine. end
PS: R.I.P, Chuck! great tribute.
Pat's a real dude too, he's often not appreciated but I always was inspired by this guys musicianship and skills as a composer. Respect to Chuck as well RIP, I think I will put on a Death album now.
Brought me to tears. I feel the love
truely heart warming xD
crystaltarot1 same here, Death will Live Forever
crystaltarot1 Chuck is one of the greatest humans this planet has ever experienced. He still holds the light of authenticity in a lot of ways as I see it.
Imagine how good a concert would be with Death and Cannibal Corpse. R.I.P Chuck, pioneer, forever immortal and long live Cannibal Corpse!
Pat toured with Death when he was in Nevermore.
Pull it together Pat and make a comeback. That would be the best performance ever. 👊
Thank you for remember us, Santiago, Chile!!!!

WTF WHY IS THIS MEEEEEEEE
@@jarrodnielsen1621 are you ok?
Chuck WAS insured. His insurers denied cover since it was deemed a pre-existing condition.
' in May 2001, the cancer returned and Schuldiner fell ill again. He was originally denied surgery (which he needed immediately) due to lack of funds.'
...
'Schuldiner had gotten medical insurance after his first surgery, but the insurer had refused to pay because the tumor existed before he had gotten the insurance.'
now that's a man who truly loves guitar
Pat is fucking awesome such a chill guy ive met him couple times now
I don't understand why people say that Pat O'Brien sucks; just watch this video. That should be enough to shut people up.
Excellent interview I'm a new Pat O'Brien fan just saw him with CANNIBAL CORPSE live in Fort Lauderdale,Florida (Plese comeback to South Fla.) and to actually find out that He knew Chuck from DEATH (I was a big fan of Chuck's) ,as a CANNIBAL CORPSE fan I find it very ,very kool and it does make sense that i got into both types of bands, those are two very intense bands, keep supporting DEATH and THRASH METAL,just SUPPORT METAL ,PERIOD!!!
pat o brien is just so metal. look at him.
I just noticed, that Pat breathes really heavy. Don't slip into Cancer brother, we still need you! Love you man! /,,/
he plays the way I to when trying to talk to people
This is so cool, you don't hear Pat playing like THAT often.
Pat O' Brien is a great guitarrist.
R.I.P. Chuck Schuldiner.
In memory of all us.
I can't believe he can fuck with a guitar like that and carry on a convo. I can't even tie my shoe and hold down a decent convo.....
I didn't know this guy was so good.. and yes, Andy LaRocque (spelling) has one of my favorite shredding styles!
first time i hear Pat play something other than diminished scales. Awesome.
Great video, he actually mentioned something about Death's legendary concert in Chile back in '98 where Cannibal Corpse, Death and Incantation played that night
Definitely one of my favorite guitarists
Pat is BADASS!!!!
holy shit , at 2:00 he plays joe satriani-always with me, always with you XD
Either this is a joke that flew over my head or you have the worst ears ever.
this guy is just awsome.. probobly the best of all metal (that is still alive)
OMG this is THE tribute... and Pat is the perfect guy! R.I.P. Chuck....
@pitzombie He hasn't done for metal what Chuck has, but talking just as a guitarist, Pat is fucking god of metal guitar. If Pat was in Nile, OMG.
I love how most CC songs have some really crazy whammy shit goin on and here he is playing scales and shit lol Pat Obrien is amazing!
@DougHittTV: I was just making sure. The reason Pat never plays any of the guitar solos is that he has more attack so therefore he plays the rhythm. Even though on the albums he is the one who usually records both guitars. I found that out from the Bonus DVD that comes with 'Evisceration Plague' if I remember correctly.
iSi! "fue un espectaculo grande... enorme... y fue muy cool... muy cool"
Get well soon Pat, hope to see you again on stage with CC 👍
omg that would have been an awesome tour
2 of my fave bands
nevermore and death
R.I.P. Chuck
and pat rocks
@XSymphony i understand it can be annoying, but he's a guitarist, when he holding a guitar he'll just play it. Its second nature.
He's just talking so calmly while shredding
sandals is a nice addition to being live haha
R.I.P Chuck, he sounds like a really cool guy :D didnt expect him to be quiet and reserved, horns up to Death and Schuldiner!
King of the Shred
damn!!!!!!...watching this video made me forget that i had a snickers in my pocket.. now its melted :'(...damn you Pat and al of your awsomeness!!!
Awesome. Pat rules. RIP, Chuck.
Pat o Brien is good
Very cool. I have 3 B.C. Rich Guitars and I love every one of them. May Chuck Rest In Piece (Death Metal God).
man that was a fast tribute, but it was AWESOME!!! I wish that I could have the articulation to move across the fretboard that fast.... DAMN
hands down one of the best guitarists around

1:37 that maneuver was like a BTW thing to him :O
Awesome x)
pat obrien is definitely my favorite death metal guitarist
i want some lessons from this guy
1:36 "You know he really...(Loading memory files) "ticatucatiketukatikatu..."
He just HAS to play guitar non stop ... if he has is in his hands he just has to play
He reminded me of Swisgar from Metalocalypse the way he couldn't stop playing haha.
i had to LOL when he was trying to sound sad about chucks death, but was play some hilarious ridiculous stuff on guitar hahaha.
pat during this interview "must talk about chuck... i wants to play guitar...NO. i need to do this thing about.....guitar..must play...wait what?"
The new stealth looks badass I think it will be my next guitar I think there sold for 1000 bucks if schuldiner was alive today his solos could melt you're face so much you would have to be hospitalized
i have an all new respect for pat
@tomschrauwen its not exploiting his death at all,its a honor to play that guitar. Its a way for fans to remember him. My friend has that exact model and its fuckin awesome.
I worked with Pat in construction! He told me the day Cannibal talked to him about an audition. I told him he would be stupid not to do it ... fuck Monstrosity... good deal Pat!
Pat is my favorite guitarist he got fucking good skills i always get tired when im playing one of his songs
hes probably the best guitarist in my opinion
i'm a bass player
but if i were to seriously think about buying a guitar, i'd get this for sure!
\m/ RIP CHUCK
guitar tourettes. Chuck is seriously my hero! I was HEAVULY influenced by Chuck. Im saving my money for one of these guitars. I only wish I got the chance to meet Chuck, he just seemed so down to earth. R.I.P CHUCK!!!
Funny because he's like 10 times the guitarist and song-writer Schuldiner was but hey, gotta pay tribute to the previous generation.
@KillJoy353 Dude they are special! if they werent they wouldnt be the biggest selling death metal band of all time! maybe its not special now but back then they were the fucking shit!
This guy is by-the-way while talking shredding riffs I can only dream of doing right now xD

jackwilsontube dijo que uno de los show mas geniales fueron en stgo chile

i love it how its like his hands have a mind of their own, and hell jus start shredding out of nowhere
pats skills actually shine through on this vid... on all the cannibal albums he sounds like a slightly better kerry king.. which isnt alot when it comes to solos... i respect kerrys riffage however!! :D pat really should do some more melodic solos on cannibals next album cause the same random fucking notes spread out and tremelo picking gets old REALLY fucking fast.
i want metalhead hair like him..... and metalhead skills like him..
when Pats just messing around not even looking at his guitar or seemingly not even trying hes better than most bands solos. lolz
I like how he piddles with the guitar during his interview. If it is indeed a nervous quirk, hell I can relate...
@ThorRising if i start guitar should i buy that one
R.I.P. Chuck, we will always remember you
Flamethrower good!
@IceSarcophagus A BC Rich "Draco" my friend, pretty good looking guitar isnt it? ;)
yes man, just check out their bassist and Pat, thei're exellent. Chuck shall be remembered. Chuck lives.
Bc Rich Draco alert in the backround. my son has one and it's pretty awesome.
hahahah lmao! xD
his guitar play combined whit talking is hilarious xD
the camera shots reminds me of "ask a ninja" :D
p.s cannibal corpse to death!
I would kill my mother to could shred just half so fast as this beast!
i was in that show in santiago de Chile, 98 i think jejeje was amazing Death played almost 2.30 Hours whit a drum solo from R5ichard Christy (10 minutes) , also Cannibal Coprse, Incantation and Dorso Performed that day
Couldn't have thought of a better guitarist to plug this guitar and pay tribute to Chuck.
It's a custom Ran guitar. They're a Polish (I think, they're North European at least) company.
he is just a fucking great guitarist... can't stop thinking about playing lol.... calling card to greatness
i was there, in 1998, in that show in Santiago de Chile and it was fuckin' amazing!!! Death + Cannibal Corpse in front of 5000 crazy metalheads!!
@DougHittTV: Who? Pat?
Pat O'Brien? I thought he was bald? What year was this video?
@BabyEviscerator Yeah he was in Nevermore on the "Politics of Ecstasy" record. 1997...which is one of their best in my opinion. It's the thrashiest and one of the angriest.
does play solos in cc? ive never heard a solo in a canibal corpse song...
but then again i havent heard much cannibal corpse.
Watching Pat talk reminds me of Skwisgaar, always messing with the guitar... haha :) Much love to Corpse and Death. I would say RIP Chuck, but he's far from dead-- his body may be, but Death is still very very much alive.

my god....
really awsome
si (2:05), dice que ese fue un show la raja y que fue la ultima vez que habló con Chuck :-(
He doesnt just deserve a guitar!
he deserves to be in the rock n roll hall of fame and madame Tussaud because i dont think that any other person would have kept going if they were criticized as much as chuck was. the people really slammed deathmetal when death was founded, it was he who managed to make it famous and remove the insane philosophy that it was some kind of occult or whatever

Legend's never Die \m/
omg why is this so hilarious! hahahaha! i love death and cc.
i do that too when holding my guitar and talking at the same time, can help but go crazy.
Am I the only one who finds this hilarious? I mean, this whole interview feels like something straight out of Spinal Tap or something. Comedic gold.
