Great guide, thank you! I have an issue still. I have two small steam games installed, steam running, and I can't get it past the message that says there's no shortcuts detected when I try to install add the notepad to Steam. Has anyone else run into this? I don't know what to do, it's just not working. EDIT: Figured it out. What I first did was add a non-steam game and added notepad that way. Then, when back to the GlosC launcher and selected add all to steam and I didn’t get the error. After that, I went to steam, and then removed notepad. Scott, I'm in the same situation. I've literally tried deleting all of these programs and starting from the ground up -- fresh installs of Steam, Xbox app, GloSC, Bus driver -- and slowly walked through all steps again. Still getting the error message. Been stuck on this for over a week now and can't seem to find a solution. This is essentially the last step I need to get my Steam Deck fully running for Windows gaming, which was an important aspect for me when buying this console/PC, since I have an established Windows-based (and Xbox) library...frustrated that I'm at a standstill :/

This is going to sound absurd - and I guess ultimately it is, but whatever - this tutorial made me so happy it almost brought me to tears. I've had my deck for 2 weeks now and despite laboring under the false impression (my own fault) that one would be able to slap pretty much any game onto the machine and have it run right out of the box, I have instead spent days upon days, hours upon hours trying all kinds of tricks, tweaks, installers, watching tutorials, asking for advice, going through all manner of bullshit to get things how I want them. I mean, I have HUNDREDS of PC games going all the way back to the 80s and 90s through today, seeing that roughly one out of every fifteen or twenty actually worked was immensely frustrating. I was seriously starting to doubt this $560 purchase that I'd waited a literal year for. I watched this tutorial, followed it to the letter, and boom - I'm playing a (uh, "borrowed") copy of Resident Evil 7, one of my favorite games and one that I desperately wanted on the Deck. @Deck Wizard I just found out today that with GlosC 2.0.8 you can get the back buttons / back paddles working by NOT using BIG Picture Mode and making a specific GlosC for each game, then add those to steam -> configure them on steam for controller inputs (not the game itself, change the controlls of the GlosC of the game!) and start the specific GlosC Gamelink from normal Desktop Mode. The Keyboard stil pops up at my side but the game loads fine and the controlls are working (tested with God of War Fitgirl Pack)
@@chadwilson5922 Hey sorry, this information is not up to date anymore. It works even if you just use notepad as a universal GloSC, you don't need to create a seperate GloSC for every game. You just need to setup the backbuttons within steam for each game, the backbuttons are the 4 empty slots on the left and right on the controller setup, just assign those to a,b,x,y or whatever you like. It should work just fine, should also work with GloSSI.
But be aware: There are games which have issues with controller setups, like Let's go Eve / Pikachu (Emulation) or Tales of Arise (on Windows). Those will need some setup changes to work properly.

Hello, everything works for me except the part where you press the steam button to open the menu and then exit big picture mode. When I press it I get a blank screen, but if I move the sticks it makes the same sounds as if I'm in the big picture settings, just like you, the thing is that I can't see what I'm doing, if I press it again I go back to whatever I was doing. The problem is that I can't use the TouchPads if I can't exit big picture mode, do you know any fixes to this?
@@eprimchad2576 I was in the same situation, but I found a way around it. Find notepad in steam, then press the right mouse button to find manage select controller layout, select the touchpad behavior on the right, and finally select the mouse that can be used.
Thank you for this easy to follow tutorial. I finally took the plunge and installed Windows 11 on Steam Deck and this guide was extremely helpful to get the controls working.
Once this is enabled and running a game in Windows, is there a way to return to desktop without closing out the game? Would be great to be able to adjust screen brightness, look up something in a browser, access Discord, etc. without having to quit the game altogether
If you haven't found it yet, there may be a way. I haven't tried with the steam deck, but I used to use a steam controller. If you hold down the steam button on the controller and press the select button you may be able to change windows. If that doesn't work, try holding down the steam button and test it with any of the other buttons on the steam deck until you find the right one.
Hi, everything works. Thanks for your tutorial. I have only one problem: when I install a game and launch it from Xbox app it doesn't work, never starts. If I play it from cloud gaming it was OK. Doy you know what's wrong? Thank you
I have a problem not sure if it's the game or what but high in life doesn't seem to be detecting controller properly almost like windows thinks there are 2 mice contlected
Nice tutorial but I just keep getting the shortcut error after adding notepad. I've installed a game on steam, left it open and the shortcut is on the desktop. Even a reboot doesn't fix it, I'm baffled.
How do I set up my controller to navigate Windows 10? I need to allocate the left click and the right click to the R1 and L1 buttons and I need to have a button so that the keyboard pops up.
Hi @deckwizard thanks for your great tutorials, I have a question What if we don't have gamepass? I'm trying to get a non steam game working with the steam deck controls (it's an exe file game) Do I need gamepass to get this working?
I've got to ask: If I want to play the whole MGS series on the Steam Deck, what OS and emulator for which game should I use? Would you be so kind to make a small and short list for me (us), dear Mr. Magic Man? ;-)
It's up to you, but I'd say MGS2 and 3 are best played on PCSX2 but I've got them both running with Xenia with the HD versions. Peace walker as well with Xenia although PPSSPP will give more consistent results.
@@DeckWizard Do I have to make use of dual boot if I want to experience the whole franchise, then? If so, how far is the gameplay affected when choosing between Win10 and Win11?
Hey, for me some strange behavior started after I installed GlosI. Originally L2 was right click in Windows now its the touch pad "touch" function and left touch pad is left click. Also, scrolling option was totally eliminated. When I activate the controller in Steam then even these functions stops working and only touch screen is working. Do you have any idea why is this ? Sometimes even I login to Windows and providing the PIN the virtual keyboard stop functioning and must restart Windows to get it working.
Hi guys, does anyone else have trouble just launching games from Game Pass under windows? They just won't launch and when forcing with administrator I get the "This game won't run on your PC" in red message.
@@eprimchad2576 That was indeed the issue, it was set to automatic update but somehow it wasn't updating. I guess the gap was to big. I had to manually set the time and then re-enable ntp services. Thanks though for your reaction!

Fix if you're getting double inputs. I got it to work. I was having a problem on my Steam Deck using GlosC and Windows 10 OS while playing games that were installed natively on Xbox Gamepass. Kept getting double inputs while running the Steam ap and GlosC as the notepad in the background as intended to. Using Windows, I went into the Steam ap and in Big Picture mode, I checked Xbox Conf Support and the Guide Buttons, but I still got double inputs. I rebooted my Steam Deck to the Steam OS this time and opened the Steam ap, managed the controller in Big Screen mode to the same configuration as above, rebooted to Windows OS, ran my game and it worked. I guess I had to be in Steam OS and not Windows to fix. Hopefully this helps someone that received the same problem as me.
brother thank you. so do u know why I wouldn't be able to download my game pass games on my micro sd card? it let me start it but then a error happened and now it doesn't even allow me to use my sd card.
As of September 15th this no longer works. Followed instructions to a T but it still says "Couldn't detect steam shortcuts file" even though I have a game installed on steam. Is there going to be an updated video for this?
So I got it installed after manually installing notepad. However when I run it from steam. I get the usb chime. But a cmd prompt box loads full screen and steam hangs. After waiting a while I can minimise the windows. If I press the steam button I just get a white screen but pressing it again the thumb sticks work. However the a button doesn’t function nor the triggers when in desktop mode again. I can’t seem to get it functioning correctly. Can any offer any suggestions as to what I may have done wrong or what I can try to get it to work?
Hello friend! What do you offer now, for like xenia emulator? Because i try handheld companion, swicd and the steam deck tools, and the windows are recognizing the input, but the xenia not, and im start a bit tired of this. This method i didn't try, maybe this will help.
Won't work for me. Says "vcruntime140.dll not found" And "msvcp140.dll was not found" Then "vcruntime140.dll not found" Then "mscvp140.dll was not found" and then finally the pop ups stop lol. It says "try reinstalling" with each popup and I've tried a few times already and still no luck. Even as admin
hello, I do the procedure as indicated in the tutorial, but I still cannot play with the controllers, and software « the game contrôler » does not show me any controller, the only place where the controller works is on big bictura
Thank you so much for this very helpful guide. Do you need to have the Xbox app open every time you play a game, or just Notepad? EDIT - it seems only Notepad.
@deckwizard I've really enjoyed your videos the last few months. I am working on getting my steam deck to play the Xbox live arcade version of 007 GoldenEye on xenia, but it crashes when the intro transitions out of the gun barrel sequence. The entire system restarts after the blue screen of doom appears. Any suggestions to get it to play?
When I pull up controller configuration in steam on windows, the control map doesn't make any sense and looks like inputs are missing to configure. It's as if it has an image of the steam deck but instead points to spots you would go for steam controller buttons and pads and doesn't have a separate selection for the new controls in the steam deck. Is there a way to fix this? As is only XInput style controls would work, I can't configure custom controls.
is there any way to use glosc without it disabling the right touchpad as a mouse-cursor? because the moment it's launched, i can no longer use the right touchpad to navigate as a trackpad.
@@rickmcintosh3570 Yes I played Diablo 3 with the back buttons. Configured the controller in steam, launched notepad then Diablo and it worked no problem.
I followed all the instructions and still got the cannot detect shortcuts file. I have pc gamepass, steam, a game installed. Any idea what the problem could be?
I saw your other comment about adding a non steam game and it worked. Now when pushing the steam button i just get a white screen instead of the controller options.
I've installed Vampire Survivors, selected Notepad, saved it and tried to add all to Steam but still get the no shortcuts found error. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks for all the cool guides!
When using this to launch nonSteam games do you need to have those games on steam as nonSteam games? For example, the legend of zelda PC port, do I just launch the notepad then launch the lozOOT.exe or does the game have to run through steam?
Why couldn’t Microsoft just make this easier so we don’t have to go through this. The only game I was wanting controller support was Minecraft. It would randomly open random things and not function properly. But this fixed every thing.
if having issue with glosc adding notepad to steam then: go to steam bottom left hand corner click "add a game" search for notepad (like he did thru glosc) add notepad and add glosc app click notepad to open and you can hear the USB sound

Hey have you found a workaround? Im having the same issue
@@eprimchad2576 nope, unfortunately
Same issue here 😢
@@eprimchad2576 I was in the same situation, but I found a way around it.
Help! It says that the shortcuts couldn’t be found even with a game installed
How do I get yuzu to detect the steamdeck as a controller in windows?
Once this is enabled and running a game in Windows, is there a way to return to desktop without closing out the game? Would be great to be able to adjust screen brightness, look up something in a browser, access Discord, etc. without having to quit the game altogether
If you haven't found it yet, there may be a way. I haven't tried with the steam deck, but I used to use a steam controller. If you hold down the steam button on the controller and press the select button you may be able to change windows. If that doesn't work, try holding down the steam button and test it with any of the other buttons on the steam deck until you find the right one.
I don't own a Deck yet, but I believe you can at least make a AutoHotKey macro for alt tabbing
Just swipe from the left side of the screen. Windows has shortcuts for gestures on touchscreens.
Here's a tip: if you hold the steam button while using the right track pad, the controller will hardware emulate a mouse.
Right joystick too
Bumpers are to left and right click
Hi, everything works. Thanks for your tutorial. I have only one problem: when I install a game and launch it from Xbox app it doesn't work, never starts. If I play it from cloud gaming it was OK. Doy you know what's wrong? Thank you
cant seem to get any rumble support :( on gloSsi
I have a problem not sure if it's the game or what but high in life doesn't seem to be detecting controller properly almost like windows thinks there are 2 mice contlected
Thanks for the tutorial, do you know if here is a way to have the trackpads to work at the same time?
Not currently, although you figure out methods for dealing with it in combination with the Steam Button and external keyboard/mouse.
I think I got this working by opening steam in administrator mode.
It continues to say it couldn't detect steam shortcuts file, I can't figure out what I did wrong.
I'm trying to make the trackpad works. When I press Steam button, I only see white screen. Do you know whaf happens?
Nice tutorial but I just keep getting the shortcut error after adding notepad. I've installed a game on steam, left it open and the shortcut is on the desktop. Even a reboot doesn't fix it, I'm baffled.
I think you need to add a non-steam program to steam, I just added internet explorer to steam
@@jabron4529 thanks, that was it

How do I set up my controller to navigate Windows 10?
I need to allocate the left click and the right click to the R1 and L1 buttons and I need to have a button so that the keyboard pops up.
Hi @deckwizard thanks for your great tutorials, I have a question
What if we don't have gamepass? I'm trying to get a non steam game working with the steam deck controls (it's an exe file game)
Do I need gamepass to get this working?
Thanks, you are the best! 🎉

Is there any recommendations for an indie game to download?
Having issues with gamepass games do you think it's how I had my previous layout set
Sometimes even I login to Windows and providing the PIN the virtual keyboard stop functioning and must restart Windows to get it working.
same issue, opening steam is leaving you with touch only ..
same issue for me as well.
Hi guys, does anyone else have trouble just launching games from Game Pass under windows? They just won't launch and when forcing with administrator I get the "This game won't run on your PC" in red message.
Not sure if youve already fixed this but set the time on your system to automatically update and they will run
@@eprimchad2576 That was indeed the issue, it was set to automatic update but somehow it wasn't updating. I guess the gap was to big. I had to manually set the time and then re-enable ntp services. Thanks though for your reaction!
Thanks. Couldn't find the glosc anywhere before I seen this.
Have you managed to map the rear buttons?
I want to figure out how to make my series X work with Steam Deck running Windows 10.
ok im lost . I did all things , and im stucked . I added notepad to favourites , im turning on gamepass game and it doesnt recognize any controller , it still see only keyboard and mouse as an optiion ;/
Thank you for tutorial, running well...
Thank you so much man

brother thank you. so do u know why I wouldn't be able to download my game pass games on my micro sd card? it let me start it but then a error happened and now it doesn't even allow me to use my sd card.
As of September 15th this no longer works. Followed instructions to a T but it still says "Couldn't detect steam shortcuts file" even though I have a game installed on steam.
Is there going to be an updated video for this?
Add a Non Steam game to Steam
@@DeckWizard that's how I did it actually
how you get the bluetooth to connect min not it add the device but not connect
So I got it installed after manually installing notepad. However when I run it from steam. I get the usb chime. But a cmd prompt box loads full screen and steam hangs. After waiting a while I can minimise the windows. If I press the steam button I just get a white screen but pressing it again the thumb sticks work. However the a button doesn’t function nor the triggers when in desktop mode again.
I can’t seem to get it functioning correctly. Can any offer any suggestions as to what I may have done wrong or what I can try to get it to work?
I can't seem to get the 'B' button to stop being ESC which brings up menus in most games. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Hello friend! What do you offer now, for like xenia emulator? Because i try handheld companion, swicd and the steam deck tools, and the windows are recognizing the input, but the xenia not, and im start a bit tired of this. This method i didn't try, maybe this will help.
Won't work for me. Says "vcruntime140.dll not found"
And
"msvcp140.dll was not found"
Then "vcruntime140.dll not found"
Then "mscvp140.dll was not found" and then finally the pop ups stop lol.
It says "try reinstalling" with each popup and I've tried a few times already and still no luck. Even as admin

Does this also work with PlayStation remote play?
do you have any "unknown device" under your device manager?
Thank you so much for this very helpful guide. Do you need to have the Xbox app open every time you play a game, or just Notepad? EDIT - it seems only Notepad.

Is there a controller that works for mame emulator? I tried glosc but didnt' work for mame unless i'm doing something wrong.
There is a specific build of Xenia you have to use from 2020, have you tried August 15th 2022 Xenia Canary?
When I pull up controller configuration in steam on windows, the control map doesn't make any sense and looks like inputs are missing to configure. It's as if it has an image of the steam deck but instead points to spots you would go for steam controller buttons and pads and doesn't have a separate selection for the new controls in the steam deck. Is there a way to fix this? As is only XInput style controls would work, I can't configure custom controls.
Hi what resolution and font size do you have set as your xbox game pass app seems to fit the screen better than mine

Double inputs is a known issue with GlosC. Is there a fix out there that you might know? Anyone...?? Much appreciated.
is there any way to use glosc without it disabling the right touchpad as a mouse-cursor? because the moment it's launched, i can no longer use the right touchpad to navigate as a trackpad.
hold the steam button while using the mouse pad.
Does this method enable the back buttons?
No, as mentioned in the video they're not yet available for mapping on Windows, hopefully in the future.

I know the speakers don't work yet in windows due to drivers on the steam deck but will headphones work if you plug them in?
look at his most recent (4 months ago tutorial, i think, at the time of typing this message) it has the link to all the drivers
When using this to launch nonSteam games do you need to have those games on steam as nonSteam games? For example, the legend of zelda PC port, do I just launch the notepad then launch the lozOOT.exe or does the game have to run through steam?
I'd say the notepad method would be best.
Thank you! Works
Why couldn’t Microsoft just make this easier so we don’t have to go through this. The only game I was wanting controller support was Minecraft. It would randomly open random things and not function properly. But this fixed every thing.
if having issue with glosc adding notepad to steam then:
go to steam
bottom left hand corner click "add a game"
search for notepad (like he did thru glosc)
add notepad and add glosc app
click notepad to open and you can hear the USB sound
