This is unreal! Wow... What this guy just accomplished can't be overstated. All the things guys claim on paper about bullpups, this guy just gave credence to those words. Congrats Joe and congrats Kel Tec! (Now offer a race replica of this rifle)
I am a huge fan of full length barrels on bullpups. A 24 inch barrel on a bullpup and it can move like that. I hope they make a mass produced variant of that rifle.
Awesome sauce, been waiting for a new Kel-Tec video. You guys have some great content, and firearms - easily my #1 manufacturer for innovation and awesomeness!
Would like to see a free float barrel and handguard somewhere down the line for the RDB. And also, a better chamber check mechanism, which would probably be the only 2 problems I have with it.
It seems almost everybody is drooling over the 24" barrel. I believe the 24" length defeats the utilitarian purpose of a bull pup. I'll stick with my stock RDB since I have no dreams of being a competitive shooter. It is nice to see the rifle get the recognition it deserves. Now I just need to find one in FDE to go along with my others.
I think it still makes use of the bullpup purpose, yea isn’t very compact like the shorter barrels obv but still would be more compact that an ar with a 24” barrel.
Exhaustive quality control and Kel-Tec are two things I never thought I would hear in the same sentence. The lack of quality control is the one reason I will never own a Kel-Tec at this time. They have amazing ideas but horrible execution.
@@teemun3979 My sub 2000 gen 2 is not bad . It works all the time and is accurate. I did how ever have to lock tight the back castle nut back on after it loosened off.
So was his rifle inards like bolt, piston barrel materials standard or did his rifle have parts specifically engimeered for use in his rifle only or are we talking stock of the shelf parts? That is the question. Anyone can build a race gun but how does this compare to what a Keltec consumer receives when he purchases a RDB?
I always favored the bull pup rifle, due to its maneuverability, and innovative design, as well as being apart from the “ Norm “.......Congratulations KelTec on a job well done. The world recognizes you 😎🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍
If they sold this in .308 with better-than-FAL mags, I'd already own one... or more. Hell I'd wade through the FAL mags if I could get RDB design in .308. No, I'm not as interested in the RFB. I had been wondering what kind of accuracy can be squeezed out of these with a lil tinkering. I also wonder what it takes to turn a barrel for one. A reliable semi-auto bullpup SAPR in .308 or better still doesn't seem to exist, but I think it could.
Well mine's not the best, for it malfunctions a lot when shooting steel cased ammo. And every now and again the magazine drops out of the gun when I'm shooting it. It wouldn't be a bad little gun if those problems were fixed.
I always give credit where it is due and although in the past Keltec has gotten some bad press for WC issues on some products. However I was looking at a bullpup to have the advantages of a compact SBR-like rifle with a full sized barrel, especially relevant for 5.56mm. I looked at the Tavor and was interested, but my FFL advised me to take a look at the RDB. Putting my predispositions aside, I checked out the gun tubes which were overall positive. Long story short I picked my RDB Friday, slapped on some MBUS sites to get started and off to the range I went. I usually look at zeroing a gun as a remedial chore, but from the start I am really enjoying shooting this gun. Admittedly I was a little awkward at first with the manual of arms reaching back with my trigger hand to drop the mag, but that wore off quickly. To echo what I’ve heard in the tubes, the trigger has a bit more take up than a good milspec AR trigger, but it is very smooth take up with a wall and a crisp break. Your stock trigger is good enough to remain stock for me. What really makes this gun for me is the smooth action. Hardly any recoil. Definitely less than my AR-15 and pretty much equivalent to my Virtus. A complete joy to shoot. No issues so far. A lot of people complained about the polymer front end. I don’t understand why as there’s hardly any flex and the plastic is quite solid as far as I am concerned. Not changing it as I don’t believe the front handguard is touching the barrel like some of the cheaper entry level bolt guns with soft bendy stocks. The gun does get a tad warm, but not an issue for my shooting. It is has been 100% reliable for the first 100+ rounds which is not surprising as you went with a long stroke piston that looks like it borrows from the AK with an AR BCG with an AR rotating bolt face. I have to say the design is very clever with queues from the AR, AK and G3. Really dig it. It is original. I like the mag release. Works well. And having a G3 clone, love the Hk slap. The only thing I’ll ding you guys on is the bolt release. You have to come off the gun to actuate it with both your thumb and forefinger pressing down with considerable pressure to release it. I think you meant for that to be the way of things as they are positioned perfectly for that technique. One finger is not doing it. The positioning is not optimal either, but small potatoes for me as I’ll ignore them generally and just use the charging handle. Just a note for your enginerds to consider. At my first range session, everybody around me was gawking and asking me about it. It looks cool. To summarize, I’m happy so far with my purchase and to the engineers and your company I have to say, nice job and well done. 👍 PS - Downward ejection? Genius.
My RDB has been back to FL twice and still doesn't work. Y'all replaced almost every significant component and you fixed the ftf and fte issues but now the bolt locks open on full mags when i shoot any 55 grain amo. Thanks Kel-Tec! I will say I love everything about the rifle and its design...but mine won't work!
Yeah it's so hard to find these in CA although I'm grateful they make a completely CA legal version of this rifle, however it is nye impossible to acquire.
Exhausting quality control 🤣. I have 3 keltec weapons. Awesome designs, and very fun to shoot. Wouldn't trust with my life though. Kel Tec, please keep creating these designs but you have to put more qaulity in your builds. And I swear, you guys make weapons that are so difficult to service as well. Still got love for yall
I'm a big fan of KelTec, but a big thing the AR has going for it over any KelTec design is the aftermarket support. I'm told from the KOG forum that KelTec won't even sell certain parts to customers, like the RDB survival flip up sights or stocks. I do love my Sub2k though.
What's wrong with yours? Mine doesn't like steel cased ammo, but I shoot brass only now. And the magazine falls out when I shoot it. Also some of the screws holding it all together come loose over time.
Since you're making custom barrels, ...How much would an 18" Gov't or DMR profile barrel cost to mass produce for the RDB? That pencil barrel is hideous for accuracy.
He obviously slapped a 24" on there for sight radius with his irons. If you're running any kind of optic, like you should be, a 24" barrel is going to be pointless. The 20" is perfect.
