    So glad I had this video, working on my rear on a SES addition U.S., this video enables you to catch the gotchas before they do. 😀 My sub-frame was good, half way through the project right now. The SES addition comes with drums brakes, I did purchase a disk brake upgrade kit from Massive it's a nice kit. I replaced my front set last year and for those out there when removing the lower ball joint skip the torx bolt other then if it is "loose", rather loosen the nut side to just past the bolt tip; put a piece of wood between the sledge hammer and give it a good wack. It will come right out, thing is when reinstalling the torx side of the bolt must go back in the same way from the front! I made the mistake of putting it in backwards and tried to hammer it in and had a heck of a time trying to get it back out to put it back in correctly. That turned a five minute project into a two hour project. I'll send an update once I have completed this project. I think the worst part of this job is disassembly with frozen bolts of which I had 3, felt good about that as they were easy to get to. Thought about replacing the trailing arm bushings in which Ford calls the knuckle arm but with the cost of the tool and bushings, I spent 100 more and got both sides new and complete. I will also be installing a new 26mm stabilizer bar as part of the project. I did add a shock tower bar to the front last year and have the rear from Massive to add this year. These are good olds cars.

      Wow that’s a lot of work sounds like you’re doing well with this! It’s always the way a 5 minute job ends up taking all day. You’ll have a fully sorted car there by the time you’re finished keep going 👍

    I watched another video the other day and this guy also restores the Focus model in Britain, the "banana" arm controls ride height, they all do really and are torqued as a unit using the dimensions you mentioned in a prior video. He had a really good explainer on it, if you are interested I will look for the video and send you a link or title. He has done what you are setting out to do. One day at a time and you are doing it correctly and doing it all. I've had a Ford Focus 2007 SES from new , runs and drives like new. I did the front last year doing the rear this year including adding disk brakes which the SES did not come with.

    Another thing you had mentioned was that it happened with or without the spring. Had not watched for the solution.

Thanks for all the information - a lot of pitfalls covered! Thanks Again! I will be attempting this on a RS mk1 - and am absolutely dreading it right now lol

    Pull out and check your vacuum hoses. I found mine to be very frail and broke easy. I also found one had rubbed through causing a vaccum leak. Also check for moisture in the throttle position switch connector.

      Nice one I’ll give those a check when I put it back together. Will maybe change them all if I can find new ones as they did seem pretty delicate. Ah good thinking it may be moisture! It’s certainly giving me the runaround!

    Well done for figuring out the rear suspension, looks like that suspension and spring from the front are aftermarket ones the eibach spring is a lowering spring I think. Good work, looking forward to the next video!

    I was watching the previous video - when the trailing arm bushes are not orientated properly in the arm, they will prematurely wear. The design ride height procedure - it doesn't always work to my own frustration, my standard Zetec always sits a little higher despite loosening all the bushes and then torquing everything up, doing it by the manual is actually impossible with getting a spring compressor in-situ!
    By the way your mistake... been there done that!

      Haha they’re a right pain to get done properly for sure. I was stumped for weeks putting the arm on the wrong way 😆
      I’m gonna take the back off again when the fronts done to redo the underbody coating so hopefully it’ll be easier second time around !

      @@st170restoration I love these videos and it's showing mine up with all this paint underneath and detail! It is really easy to put that arm on the wrong way, luckily I released my mistake after doing just one side before I did the other!

      Take the spring out and jack hub up to height, tighten all up then fit spring, did this in summer on ST and was right 1st attempt.

    Have you checked if the air flow meter is dirty? Also with the injectors you can get them sonic cleaned pretty cheaply as they clog up inside the sprayer over time. Worth doing with old injectors.

    • @st170restoration
      @st170restoration  2 года назад +1

      I changed the air flow meter for a new one and checked it was working with the scanner - all seems normal. May well be worth cleaning the injectors as it’s all being done. Heading down the lines of an evaporative emissions fault at the moment as it was giving an odd reading
