I've never heard of that. It may be because it is more nutritious and would be easier for contamination to thrive, or it is dense enough that the lime doesn't penetrate to the center.
@@nolanfoster6782 you could put it in the compost bin too, but I am not sure if it would help it or hurt it. Worst case scenario the compost takes longer to finalize. Best case is compost that will help neutralize the soil.
It should be about 1.5g per Liter, but you could probably go up to about 10g per Liter. You don't need an exact ratio, I'd probably go for around 2 grams per liter.
You don't show removing the straw from the tub or the drying process, do you do anything to rinse the straw out or to balance the ph somehow before using it? This was filmed two years ago, did you succeed in the growth of these mushrooms?

Sorry, I do not. They did fruit nicely though.
@@mookie2000mhhs Did you keep track of your yield?
Could I just use pH up instead of lime?
Did you ever get an answer? Id like to know too
@@mcnowski you can.
@@dirtpoor9571 That makes things way easier, no lime residue in the barrel to rinse out either. Thanks
What do you do with the lime water when done?
Poured it out in the yard. Most soil is acidic anyway, plus the next rain would dilute it pretty fast.

Based on my experience. Weed straw can be used.

I believe there’s no need to rinse, since most of it is water during the process
