LORD Almighty, what a stunning performance by one of the greatest performers who ever lived. He OWNS this work of genius by Schubert. And the Steinway! What a perfect instrument! Genius all the way 'round.
The best live performance of wanderer I've ever listened to... very wide and extreme dynamics and lang's own touches always make me so pleased and satisfied
Oh my - this is a fantastically nuanced interpretation. I love his spectacular command of the emotional and tonal contrast between the grandeur and drive of the virtuosic sections and the nuanced lyricism in the lyrical sections. It's so clear he has a complete understanding and deep feeling for the expressive details of the entire work. ...And it's live! Nothing short of amazing...!
To loving-everyone: That's the idea: Whenever we hear a fine performance by a pianist, we should immediately tack on the title "GENIUS," meaning that there must be an awfully extensive amount of geniuses all over the place. My point: the word is so often used (count how many times on this very page!) that it's become trivial and pretty well meaningless.
Lang Lang makes the half dozen fiendishly difficult bits in this piece look so easy; and the broad span of his sound is put to good use by Schubert in this, the most difficult of his piano compositions. There is a notable segment where Lang Lang lets Schubert make a dramatic statement in a way that I have never heard it before, during the Adagio at 10 mins into the work - great artistry. What a powerful rendering of the Wanderer. [It's not fair!]
I am not hindered by a vast knowledge of piano playing or classical music, so my expressions may not be like those of some here but listening tot this make tears run down my cheeks
Lang Lang is a genius at playing these pieces. Can you imagine the genius of these composers like Mozart, Beethoven etc. Where are the great composers nowadays?
What a breathtaking performance of Schubert's "Der Wanderer," arranged by Franz Liszt. Lang Lang plays with such virtuosity, with resonant dynamics; as well as, a sense of aesthetics, rubato and agogics, not achieved by anyone else. I for one stand in awe of Lang Lang in this highly nuanced performance, which is such a pleasure to watch and listen to. Bravissimo Lang Lang!
@@orvillewrightjr9330 It DOES matter if you are listening to it, and at the end someone tells you it's not what you thought it was. I couldn't detect any Liszt modification in it anywhere. NO WONDER!!!
The only thing you can accuse Lang Lang of, might be, that he is almost playing too perfect in a way. His playing and his gestures show the "meaning" of the piece without murkyness and without any kind of mysterious aura.
He has recorded the Schubert D960 Sonata. Check it out. It's wonderful

Loft can you explain to me how and why this 2003 recital in is 1080p? I mean, what technology was used here? Film? or some kind of experimental high definition system?
Other than Liszt who was also a composer, most pianists are mere musical reader, interpreters and performers. Geniuses are Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, Salieri, Schubert, Chopin, Grieg and many others.
The beginning of the second movement is supposed to be really introverted and no celebrated show "oh look how introverted I am". Why is he so afraid of going into the real feeling? What a strange phenomenon of our time, this avoidance of depth and soul, of really being touched. I don't feel it in this performance. He's only showcasing it superficially.
So many notes played and still no music at all to be found here. This bastardizing note-player has never been interested in being a musician, and he will never be.

Grandiosity, imagination, sensitivity - CLASS!

What the hell were you thinking?Everything was not enough! You are absolutely ridiclous! It's far from what I expected. The phrasing was horrible.
Lang Lang is a spectacular pianist. Schubert in marvellous performance!

Lang Lang is more than the words GENUS can describe. How can I ever play like him no matter how much I practice.

OMG. This performance of D760 is absolutely the best.
It's certainly the best I have heard. I love it.

Impresionante interpretación.felicitaciones.gracias
Schubert'd said " let the devil play it " Lang lang is the devil 🤩🤩😇🥰
Amazing genius
Este chico es un genio. Muchos pianistas tocan muy bien, pero Lang Lang dice la música al piano como nadie.
una delle migliori esecuzioni esistenti della Wanderer fantasy

This is not arranged by Liszt. This is Schubert's original piano score.
Well.. That arrangement of Liszt is an orchestral piece actually. This is the original one by Schubert himself like NATTYCO said above!
@@nattyco At the end of the day, what does it really matter?
@@sizuncho1736 Nit pick all you like, I prefer to listen to the music and enjoy it!

I was at the Carneige Hall that day and ever since I have never understood why he has not recorded any Schubert.
what was it like being in that crowd that night?

Pretty sure most of the cameras in 2003 can do that. My dad has one
2000s camera market was hit by a trend which portability > quliaty, what you experience was a wrong approach fight back hard
Great appreciate loft!!

Disagree
No Schubert, just Lang Lang, who does struggle with Schubert ...
Need to take a lesson with Sir Andras Schiff

Your comment is so extreme, so hatefull, so disrespectfull that it loses all credibility.
Oh to be able to play like Lang Lang!
Agree
