  • I don't know why it's taken me so long to give a full tour of my suburban Chicago garden! But now that I've done it, expect monthly updates. I've been gardening in this space since 2004 and it was a challenge turning nothing but grass and compacted Earth into a space that brings people and pollinators so much joy.
    There have been plenty of failures, plants that have come and gone and the list is looooong. It's all part of becoming. As my knowledge grows, so does my success and I'm excited to share this space with you with the hope that you'll be inspired to turn a urban/suburban ho-hum patch of grass into something that brings you joy and satisfaction.
    Hi there! My name is Heather and I garden in zone 5B, recently changed to 6a, in the southwest suburbs of Chicago on a small residential lot. My garden lives a whole lot larger than it is and I love sharing tips and tricks, as well as plenty of mistakes, with others who love to play in the dirt.
    If you liked this video, please give it a thumbs up and if you'd like to see more garden content from a DIY gardener, click the bell to subscribe. That way, you'll never miss a post.
    As always, thanks for your support and I'll see you in the garden!

      Hi Gina! I hope the cedar waxwings find you. They're such shy birds and make the sweetest little call. The rabbits are back in force and are driving me bananas! Thanks for watching!

      Hi there! I never stop thinking about it. Passion/Obsession. A little bit of both, I suppose.

    I think that lungwort is Trevi Fountain - looks like one that I have. Love your crabapple tree - my favorite tree of all. We have quite a few. I also live in the 'burbs of Chicago. Your garden is really very nice!

    Beautiful yard! Your video is so helpful and will be a great reference for plant ideas for our area. Plus it’s so helpful to see how you’re combining plants in different areas of your yard. I just put up my raised gardens and will definitely use hog wire to create a trellis as you showed in your video. Thanks again. Your videos are always great and very informative! Cheryl T

    My multi-stem serviceberry has been doing nothing but losing branches too. I’m considering evicting it.

    What is the name of the rose by your front door that is a beast?

    • @heatherhereshegrows
      @heatherhereshegrows  3 месяца назад

      I have a rose and a clematis planted together on the trellis. The clematis is a beast, Etoile Violette. And the rose is just getting started. It's called Gertrude Jekyll, another David Austin rose.

      That's a bad one for sure! I've never had it but I think hand pulling is your best bet. Just be sure to remove all parts of the plant.
