Our current 20 year old standard rebond foam pad was tacked down with staples. It's past time to replace, and one issue we care about are minimizing VOCs from the pad and from the solvents used. For the newer moisure barrier pads, wouldn't securing it with staples negate most of the waterproofing capability? So I assume they must be secured with an adhesive product... We were presented with one brand of memory foam pad which claims to be both low-VOC and also 100% waterproof (Healthier Choice 10 lb. 100% memory foam). Laying that product down with staples seems counter-intuitive... but laying it down with adhesives that emit VOCs also seems equally counter-intuitive. What is the proper installation for both moisture barrier and for memory foam pads?
You are correct, the Healthier Choice padding is the best on the market for low-voc padding options. We've sold quite a bit of their Green pad over the years and the amount of adhesive used during the pad installation is so minimal that it has never lead to a voc problem for any of our clients.
