I just made my first biscuits & I'm 62 yrs old, I have always baked, but had never tried biscuits. I was a lazy heifer & bought store biscuits. My mama was a pastry cook for DISD for 30 yrs in Dallas, TX. She would be surprised that I made them, lol. I found your channel & you inspired me to do it. Thank you & btw, my mama would LOVE your cooking.
I’m 62 yrs old and from San Antonio Texas. I’ll be making my first biscuits in a few minutes and I’m so excited. Thank you for the inspiration Tammy. I went online and got the blending fork and biscuit cutters from your website.❤️
Tammy doll, you've got a gift. And it's not just cookin either. The good Lord is using you and, I wonder if you even know it. Keep cookin doll, doin just fine😁😘
Hi Tammy! Who doesn't love a good biscuit!? Here it is almost 1 AM & I'm ready to head to the kitchen and whip up a batch of biscuits after watching this video! Have made biscuits more often after watching your tutorials. My crew says the biscuits are light & fluffier. We all enjoy them! Thanks for another video, y'all!
I always use Crisco and butter milk, but I made my biscuits this morning with Blue Bonnet instead of Crisco, for the first time and they tasted great....
When my children were growing I made biscuits 3 times a day. I haven’t made them in years. Watching your tutorial makes me want to make a small batch. I have butter and molasses. I even have hot pepper jelly.
Awesome tutorial 💗 you make them just like my mom did..my husband has been begging me to make him some bisquits and dumplins..we love watching y.all..i found your videos a week or so ago..trying to find out how to make scalded bread he wants..i had never heard of it .Thanks for all your great videos..💗
I made your buttermilk biscuits but I had no buttermilk so I substituted it with cream of tarter and milk. They were so good. Thanks Tammy for your recipes.❤️🐈🐕🐓✝️❤️
I have those same Pyrex bowls, a set of three, I've had them for at least 40 years and I still use them almost every day, and especially for my baked goods. Just made biscuits this morning to go along with a wonderful jar of honey that my neighbor gifted me! Yummy!
I love biscuits! My grandfather raised sugar cane and made molasses. We always put some in a bowl with butter then set in in the oven to warm. Best memorie are delicious!❣
OMG...mixing the butter in the syrup brings back such fond childhood memories. I would open my biscuit, butter it and mix in a pat of butter in some ALGA syrup! 😋🤤😋 ALGA is very sweet and thick and need the butter to cut the sweetness. I also liked biscuits with peach preserve, apricot preserve or gravy...delicious comfort food! And have some fried chicken or salmon croquettes with it..OMG, OMG, OMG...I can’t eat like that anymore...but OMG it was good, good, good eating! YUM!🤤😋🤤
I was a Competitive Chuckwagon cook about 20 years ago and I sure could have used this technique/recipe for making biscuits, sounds likeca real winner!❤❤❤🤜🤛👌👍
I LOVE my blending fork. It works wonderfully in a Pyrex bowl. I use butter as i think hydrogenated shortening in only good for squeaky doors and rough heels. Butter works wonderfully.
Tammy, you are such a good teacher. You explain everything so well and tell us why we should do something this way and not the other. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos.
I just made these biscuits and they were awesome! Bacon on one, and jelly on the other, lol Thanks Tammy, I thought of my mom the entire time I made and ate them
My husband’s grandma was raised during this depression. She said they would sneak a biscuit & stick their thumb in the side. Then pour syrup in & eat it as a treat. She’s was a Godly woman & was a blessing to everyone. God bless. Memau in Georgia
I just made your biscuit recipe. Its the first time I’ve made from scratch biscuits and I’m 49.I forgot to add the soda until I already combined my dough but they were the best I’ve ever made.I can’t wait to do them again.I don’t eat biscuits, but my family loves them.I have tried most of your recipes and hands down they remind me of my childhood!!!I tell everyone I know.Im actually making cookbooks for my kids and I’m definitely sharing several of your recipes 💙
Aint nothing any better than a hot(right out of the oven) homemade buttermilk biscuit! You just gotta learn how the dough is supposed to feel in your hands. Trust me, I was taught early in my life on proper Biscuit making but things are different now and our ways of doing things seem almost like a lost art.
Hadn't made a batch of biscuits with my mom in years, had to look up a recipe! Lol these looked almost perfect but then you rolled them out w more flour and cut them out. I was always told you don't roll the dough out for biscuits (mama called 'em hockey pucks then lol) only dumplings, just spoon some fat globs of that sticky dough into a buttered pan and they'll make the softest golden buttery angels of biscuits that aren't powdery dry on the outsides 👍
Exactly how momma taught me to make biscuits . We alw as ts had molasses, homemade apple butter she had made up or honey! I also love a good marmalade. My daddy always mixed his molasses with butter and then I started doing it. Yummy. One time I didn't have buttermilk so I used a bit of sour cream and a little lemon seltzer water and my husband asked what did you do to the biscuits and I thought, oh no that trick was a fail but now I make em that way if we are out of buttermilk and have sour cream and seltzer water on hand ! Made a very fluffy soft biscuit. I love your channel. 💜🦋💜
Hello I just taught myself how to make biscuits and still learning other methods on baking them. Watching lots and lots of videos does help. I never tried white lily right now it’s hard to find and a little out of my budget. But others taste the same to me. And I was not raised on homemade biscuits (store brands only ). Your the first person to mention to shift it. Thanks I will try next time.
I Love ❤ Your videos! We used to and still eat ours with Alaga syrup. I was pleasantly surprised that you mentioned cantaloupe. We used to have it with cottage cheese. 😋👍
My mother made Biscuits from Crisco, self rising flour and homemade buttermilk. Very easy and quick. I've made them several different ways and their always great. I prefer butter to Crisco and whole buttermilk. I sometimes put in 2 flat teaspoons of brown sugar without telling my wife just to see what she says. You can't really taste the sugar but it does give it a certain flavor thats just...hmmm thats a good biscuit. I sometimes use parchment paper too in a regular pan to get a bit of a crispy bottom. I've learned not to overwork the dough and they rise just fine. Thanks for posting..
These look similar to the biscuits my granny makes. She, however, isn't a woman of measurements so it was always hard for me to replicate. I just tried these and they turned out PERFECTLY. Can't wait to make them for her and see how she likes them.
I made these with white lily flour and Tammy you are a winner in my book I moved to the south in 1976 and have been trying all these years to make a good biscuit my daughter says I finally have done it ty Tammy. I also did the biscuit mix and the pancakes will never do them any other way I don't know if mama did or Tammy did but you both are winners in my book
Buttermilk biscuits with honey and butter nothing better period..... I can smell them baking yummy. Thank you for another great recipe. 🌸💮💮💙💜💛🧡🐦💚🌼🌻💖🙏❤🥰😊💐
I’m 69 and have always appreciated a good biscuit. I used Bisquick to make drop biscuits. Today I tried your recipe and oh my goodness! The others don’t even compare and these are just as easy. They are delishcious! Thank you for not only sharing the recipe but for “showing “ us how to make them. Mmm, mmm, mmm😋.
Best biscuit recipe ever. Had to start a Collard Valley playlist so I can find your recipes fast when I’m not at home. I guess I need to travel with your cookbooks.
My mom used to make biscuits n gravy all the time. Probably one of the first things I learned to make. Do you have a recipe for pepper jelly? Or Chow Chow?
@@CollardValleyCooks Thank you for responding. I'm looking for a good recipe to make them that don't have onions as I have a new onion allergy. My husband says don't worry about it, we can live without it. But we enjoy them. So I thought I could make my own one day.
Hi Tammy! Only after just a few times, I'm an expert biscuit maker, thanks to the BEST You Tube University Professor! I just received my biscuit cutters, my fork will be here soon, just in time to make another batch! Keep up your fun videos! Thanks again!
I have tried to make biscuits for years. I tried Tammy's way, and my biscuits turned out delicious. I also got the blending fork she uses. The blending fork is amazing, and I couldn't live without it. Listen to Tammy, and your biscuits will be amazing, I promise. Thank you Tammy, they taste just like my Mamaw's biscuits! Love them. From: TN.
Tammy, those biscuits are just beautiful. I'm drooling just looking at them and imagining how they taste. My Pawpaw mashed up blackstrap molasses and butter good, and spread it on the half biscuit like Chris likes his. He used to love it, with a cup of coffee. I love biscuits & cornbread (with whole buttermilk and slathered in real butter when done) better than just about any food! Just bought me a 5 lb. bag of self-rising White Lilly cornmeal off Amazon. Am going to make me some cornbread tomorrow. I've been in the mood for it for too long!
Got great price on White Lily and Butter flavored Crisco from webstanrant placed in mylar bags 90 lbs , good for about year. Made biscuits this morning turned out perfect, rose up tall and pretty,no more store brought biscuits for this house it was too easily thanks so much Tammy love all your tutorials.
It bombed😭😭😭! I’ve watched your video about 50 times now and about to try try again!! I told my husband he’d just have to eat “duds” until I can get it right!
Thank you so much. I grew up in Hazlehurst and got a lot of my momma’s recipes but didn’t get her biscuit recipe before she passed. This is just like hers. Thank you so much!
You can also use King Arthur Self rising flour. It is made from the same kind of wheat and works like Whit Lily flour. You can find King Arthur Self rising flour at Wal-Mart here in Texas.
These biscuits look so good. I have several iron skillets that belonged to my Mom and Dad. I don't use them because I don't know how to care for them. Would you please make a video on how to care for iron skillets? Thank you so much
Mama made biscuits with lard in a wood cook stove. With home churned butter and molasses. They were beyond delicious. Didn't have sliced bread till high school. Lordy I'm old.
Those were some pretty biscuits Miss Tammy !! Do you always cut your biscuits out or do you roll them out by hand too ? I use to kid around and say ... I think it's got something to do with that bowl Granny has . My uncle Bob laughed and agreed with me . Maybe I was right after all ? 😜 🤗 I told my husband that I was going to go back and start practicing and making biscuits . I want that to be some good memories for my kids and grandchildren to remember and I want to make sure that I teach them how to make biscuits too . My mama never would help me , but I want that to change for my children and grandchildren . Oh and BTW , I love mixing my syrup with butter too just like your husband. My grandfather taught me that a long time ago and I've just away done it that way . LOL !! . Thank you Miss Tammy for showing us how to make biscuits !! Love you and God bless !!
I bought your blending fork and those nice measuring spoons back in 2019, and today I finally pulled them out and made biscuits for my Mom with them. She has no clue that they’re baking in the oven right now. She’s gonna be so excited. Secret Saturday Biscuits!
@@CollardValleyCooksI’m new to making your delicious biscuits and dumplings, etc. I’m 41 and I’m just learning to do it and feel so happy about it because my mom always did it and never had a chance to teach me. I’m sure in heaven, she is glad to see I am making them just like mama did. Ha ha.❤ I am wanting to make biscuits for my family and they live 20 minutes away. Can I get the biscuits ready and put them in a pan and cover them and stick them in the oven when I get to their house and them be just as good? Also, I would really just love it if you would make biscuits with sausage or bacon grease because people are always wanting them to taste like Hardee’s. The Hardee’s biscuits taste very meaty. Any advice on how to do that? I’m thinking it will change the consistency. Thank you so much! Please keep making videos.
@@mrsangelleah1981 yes 20 min they will still be good. I am glad to hear the video's are helping. You may like using lard for that taste instead of crisco or butter.
Charlene Cole I was just informed in the live chat of this video as I wait for the It to start . I live in Las Vegas and we can order it from Walmart online and have it shipped to us, from Tammy and Kimberly in the chat !!!
I'm from Lexington ,South Carolina. My momma and grandmothers used Adluh Flour made right here in Columbia, SC. Biscuits were made with crisco and milk/buttermilk and we sopped them in Alaga syrup or mixed butter in the syrup like your Chris likes it. Basically the same just different brands. Those were some good times if we had extra biscuits after supper sopping one in syrup was out dessert. The 60's were the best time for home cooking in my opinion.
This is the same way my mother made her bread she didn't make biscuits out of it she flattened it out in a square pan in a circle and baked it was delicious never knew the recipe but this is close ill give it a try
Hi Miss Tammy my name is Lila Moore from Kentucky. Just watch ur video on the Earthquake Cake an I am gonna bake it. Im gonna get ur recipe books soon I luv finding them. Urs I know I will wear them out making good southern comfort foods. Im gonna press the like button an subscribe to ur channel. Take Care an B Safe. BELATED MERRY CHRISTMAS AN A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO U AN UR FAMILY..
I have trouble with getting it (the dough) too dry when kneading and rolling them out. Almost need to have them a little too wet when you turn them out on the board.
Tammy I bought your cook book and watch your videos I have your biscuits down packed and the other day I cooked collards just the way you did and they turned out perfect thank you so much your videos help so much now I can make gravy from my grease drippings but can't master your white gravy will you do another video on that please
They look soo good!! But 20 mins at 450F? Aren't they dry? I've always cooked them for no more than 12 mins, but usually 10 mins at 400F. Do they still remain moist?
That's how my grandma made them..she had a wooden bowl..she kept flour in the bowl..then she added the buttermilk..i never could get them to rise like she did..we ate them with pure cane syrup..oh..i forgot..she mixed it with her fingers..then squeezed them out..between her thumb and fore fingers..lol hard to explain..
Here’s a tip if you are single like me, or perhaps only have a spouse to cook for. I felt like it was really wasteful to get that much buttermilk when I was only making small amounts of biscuits, but what I do now is to freeze the buttermilk in 3/4 cup portions in quart size Ziploc freezer bags. Squeeze out as much air as you can, and lay them flat on a cookie sheet and freeze them that way. Now that I have made biscuits Tammy’s way, I simply must have buttermilk on hand all the time! Also need to try her buttermilk pie!
Most of my friends don’t even know what table syrup is. I grew up on King Syrup and now I will have to try Golden Eagle. I know this video is not about syrup so sorry.
I remember my granddad eating biscuits with sorghum molasses and butter. If he didn’t have sorghum, he would use dark Karo syrup. Biscuits are one thing I have never had much luck with, but I will have to try again with your technique. I can’t remember seeing a White Lily flour in stores around here in southern Indiana, but I can get Martha White. Do you think the butter-flavored Crisco would work?
What makes the biscuits hard on top instead of soft and tender. I use exactly the same amount of everything you use except I put baking powder in my instead of baking soda. My mama made them just like you do. Could it be the powder and not putting the extra soda?
My flour is self rising so it has the powder and salt. I would think that they haven't been dusted with flour well if they are hard? Not exactly sure, I don't think it is the powder. Make sure you are not making shortening to small too.
I've got spaghetti simmering on the stove for our dinner while watching this. Now you've changed my taste buds. Instead of the spaghetti, now I'm wanting biscuits. If it were Tammy, she'd just pop into the kitchen and make a batch in nothing flat. Well, I'm not Tammy. I'd have flour all over me, the kitchen & probably even burn my spaghetti sauce before it was over. Ha Ha I have finally been able to make biscuits from watching one of your other videos but I'm still learning and this video will help me even more.:)
Also, hubby can’t stop eating them. He said these are the best biscuits he’s ever had and he’s not a fan of them cause he’s says they are too dry. But these are moist and tasty. I made them in a cast iron pan. I used sweet milk cause unfortunately no buttermilk. They rise beautifully. Techniques are key to cooking.
My friend is coming for brunch to taste my biscuits (you taught me to make them) and she is bringing fancy jelly. Champagne and peach jelly and mango jelly. So the brunch is "country/fancy pants" hahahaha.....I love it. Thank you for teaching me to make really good biscuits. I'm making more for dinner when I babysit my grandsons tonight. They love your biscuits Tammy. I bought your blending fork which is great. Much love and appreciation to you my friend.
Working on those biscuits for perfection. Biscuits are awful from t h e frozen sections. And there are no canned ones. They are saying no show workers at the factori es. Good for home made learning and teaching these grand kids, yes, the boys too. Mak e them biscuits. Always good. Thanks Tammy. Donna from Arkansas on the Ridge. Love you and Chris.

Chris likes the lard ones too
Those were some pretty biscuits Miss Tammy !!
I usually cut them but I do have videos where I roll them
When I was growing up in the 1940's mama used Ballard flour. The "Oblisk" flour. Haven't seen it in years and years.
We always had butter milk biscuits and my dad would put the top in his coffee
My grandmother mixed butter into her honey, delicious❣️
My daddy always did his Golden eagle syrup and butter like that on biscuits. Sweet memories.
I roll mine out by hand just like in your other video I watched this morning. Love CVC
And that blending fork is wonderful!
I LOVE these biscuits!!! Thanks for the step by step recipe!!!
I bought your blending fork and those nice measuring spoons back in 2019, and today I finally pulled them out and made biscuits for my Mom with them. She has no clue that they’re baking in the oven right now. She’s gonna be so excited. Secret Saturday Biscuits!
Sounds great!
Ha ha.❤
I am wanting to make biscuits for my family and they live 20 minutes away.
My heart desires a buttery knockoff meaty Hardee’s biscuit. Lol
@@mrsangelleah1981 yes 20 min they will still be good. I am glad to hear the video's are helping. You may like using lard for that taste instead of crisco or butter.
My mother in law mixed her butter with the jelly or honey like Chris does.
Can’t get White Lily Flour in Oklahoma... would like to try it in my biscuits 🤔
Charlene Cole
I was just informed in the live chat of this video as I wait for the It to start .
I live in Las Vegas and we can order it from Walmart online and have it shipped to us, from Tammy and Kimberly in the chat !!!
I want some of that syrup we use to use it in Louisiana.
I make the best with Hudson cream flour. When I visit WV I usually bring some home with me.
I love seeing you make biscuits! They look soo deliciously-delicious! 😋 🤤 YUM-YUMM!
My daddy ate syrup with butter and biscuits after his meals❣️
This is the same way my mother made her bread she didn't make biscuits out of it she flattened it out in a square pan in a circle and baked it was delicious never knew the recipe but this is close ill give it a try
Try using grandma molasses. 😋😋😋😋
Yes remember you will be adding a little flour when you knead them
That’s the way I do my syrup there’s nothing no better than good old home biscuit gravy
I make my biscuits with only White Lily Flour too. The best biscuits ever.
Tammy I bought your cook book and watch your videos I have your biscuits down packed and the other day I cooked collards just the way you did and they turned out perfect thank you so much your videos help so much now I can make gravy from my grease drippings but can't master your white gravy will you do another video on that please
Yayyy Regina!
They look soo good!! But 20 mins at 450F? Aren't they dry? I've always cooked them for no more than 12 mins, but usually 10 mins at 400F. Do they still remain moist?
They are perfect but you can vary the time if you like
Hey Tammy! Once you make extra biscuits and freeze them. How long and at what temp do you cook them? Thanks so much for all your videos!
I never freeze them. The recipe is in collardvalleycooks.com for you.
Tammy, my husband and I, when cantaloupes are good and sweet, fix good fat meat gravy, homemade biscuits and cantaloupe. The best breakfast ever.
I'm not makin biscuits...I just wanna watch you do it!😍
We grew up mixing the butter and syrup 😜
That's how my grandma made them..she had a wooden bowl..she kept flour in the bowl..then she added the buttermilk..i never could get them to rise like she did..we ate them with pure cane syrup..oh..i forgot..she mixed it with her fingers..then squeezed them out..between her thumb and fore fingers..lol hard to explain..
I am so afraid of working my dough to long because biscuits are hard when cooked. I am going to try your way in the morning. Thank you
Here’s a tip if you are single like me, or perhaps only have a spouse to cook for.
I did not know I was supposed to put them in a hot skillet. Now I know what I am doing wrong.
You do not HAVE to but it helps
You are making me hungry, lady. Time to think about dinner.
Most of my friends don’t even know what table syrup is. I grew up on King Syrup and now I will have to try Golden Eagle. I know this video is not about syrup so sorry.
I just bought volumes 1&2 of your cook books looking forward to cooking some of the recipes ♡♡
Awesome thank you!
My grandma did the butter and molasses stirred together
I remember my granddad eating biscuits with sorghum molasses and butter. If he didn’t have sorghum, he would use dark Karo syrup. Biscuits are one thing I have never had much luck with, but I will have to try again with your technique. I can’t remember seeing a White Lily flour in stores around here in southern Indiana, but I can get Martha White. Do you think the butter-flavored Crisco would work?
Yes the butter flavored Crisco is good
What makes the biscuits hard on top instead of soft and tender.
Glad to hear you are doing it Dee!
T, can I used sweet milk if I don’t have buttermilk?
Yes
T, your the best. I make these and they come out perfect. I really like that you show us how to do it.
Sounds fun!
Hi, I'm your new subscriber, I'm from Switzerland, I have a question, this cookie is what we use to make monkey bread, right? Thank you very much if you answer me❤❤❤
I am not sure what you call monkey bread I have never tried it.
Yes you can make monkey bread with this dough.
Just made your biscuits .They came out yummy! Very easy to make Y'all Thank you so much for this video. Now I am going to watch your biscuits and gravy recipe.
Glad you like them!
I use my kitchenaid mixer to put mine together. i have carpal tunnel and cant blend by hand anymore, but we use what we have dont we? oh do i miss white lilly, I cannot get it here in Minnesota. i can order it from amazon but they want an obscene amount of money for it. we ate lions head syrup growing up and i havent seen any since i was a little girl. I make biscuits like my granny and my mama from the Appalachian Mountains. My daddy always said to 'never trust a man that wont eat a biscuit." .. yall be good
Yes that is true you are making the best of what you have!
Tammy you are so right. White Lilly is the best and only flour there is!! Spot on.
I wished I was there having one of you biscuit and syrup!! Yummy
