My granny always made biscuits in a cast iron skillet. She called her biscuits "cat head" biscuits. They were big, fluffy & delicious. I don't have her recipe. I wish I did. I am definitely going to try yours. They look delicious! Oh, and...my granny used buttermilk & shortening too! 😊👍 I love your down home cooking recipes & videoes. You don't need to change nothing about how you do things! Honestly, if people don't care for this type of cooking & want to miss out on the yumminess of life, don't watch the channel! I'm sure there are many health food blogs & videoes you can follow.
I have your cookbooks and I made these biscuits with sausage gravy Saturday night. We buttered and tore one into tiny pieces for my 1 yr old grand son and he was eatin em like they were candy or something. Every time he ran out of pieces on his highchair tray he would holler "HEY" real loud so we would put more on his tray. Lol! He got himself good and full, got a bath and was asleep about 5 minutes later. All you mamas and gammies out there, If ya want happy, healthy babies and ya want em to go to sleep good at bed time, raise em on southern food! Our whole family is loving your cookbooks! Have a good day. Hugs from the southeast coast of Florida 🌴😎💙😎🌴
Just sitting here grinning like a fool. Listening to your voice takes me home, watching you cook puts me back in the kitchen with my grandma. It hurts a bit but it's a good hurt.
Love the way you explain every step. As a southern girl, I never made homemade biscuits because I was afraid they would turn out awful. My Mother made the best ever with the rolling in the hand method. Now I am going to try making this recipe. Thank you and love your videos.
Hi Tammy, your biscuits look amazing! This is probably the best video I have ever seen for making biscuits everything seems pretty Measured, beautiful and you look amazing.
Such a dear, kind & lovely woman!!! I look forward to making my own biscuits with your method...(I love the cast iron skillet idea...) Bless you...... : )
I just made your biscuits. I have to say they are THE BEST biscuits I have ever made. Light, high and delicious. Thank you for your videos. I love to watch you. Fact is I have binge watched your videos. You are like visiting with family. Thanks again. Love ya girl. God bless. Stay safe.
Great video!~ I love Chocolate gravy with a bit of butter mixed in with homemade biscuits. Keep up the great videos so we can cook like mama did!~ Thank you~
Great Video on biscuits ! done just like my Granny somewhat she used slapped the butter knife off into the freezer to cut her lard in and a big glass bowl even seen her slap that bowl back off into the freezer for keeping the lard small peas and always cold buttermilk and quick mixing up and cutting out , Great Video once again
Emmmmm....there's nothing better than mixing syrup and butter to go with a piping hot biscuit! Well I take that back...lol having a slice of ham on the side to go with it is pure Heaven!! My mouth is watering now just at the thought of it. 😂😂😂
Made these for breakfast and my hubby said they were the best biscuits he’s had. And I followed the directions exactly even using a heated cast iron. Finally found THE PERFECT biscuits after trying so many!!! Thank you!! You’re seriously my favorite home cook! Reminds me of my mom and grandmas home cooking.
Hey Tammy, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your channel. I grew up in town in Southern Missouri in the 60's and 70's and we pretty much existed on boxed mac and cheese, white bread, and twinkies, lol. Fast forward 40+ years and I still don't know how to cook, heh. But I got married later in life and my husband grew up in Georgia (born in Wilkes County GA) and he had a Mama that could cook like nobody's business; I didn't have the pleasure of knowing her, as he and I married much later in life. Long story short-he is starving for just the kind of cooking that you do and I have always been a Southern Cook 'wannabe'. We LOVE your potato soup recipe and today, I am going to do the Crock Pot roast. Thank you and God Bless !
I’m in the UK where we don’t make biscuits. I’ve just made some using skimmed milk as that’s all I had and they are delicious. I’m sure they’ll be better next time when I use buttermilk. I love your recipes, thank you for sharing.
I am a first time watcher.. I just made these OMG. They are delicious!! The last batch of biscuits i made weighed 5 pounds it felt.. They were horrible.. Thank you sooo much for posting this!!😘❤ idk how to post a pic.. But they are amazing!!
Tammy, I bought myself the blending fork, & made your biscuits last night. I followed everything you did on the video. They tasted just like my grandmother's, & tasted so good. Then after I tasted the biscuits, I did a biscuit victory dance in my kitchen screaming, " Yay I finally did it!" Ha.ha. I just wanted you to know that this is the first time my biscuits turned out so good, & didn't come out hard like baseball's. Thank you so much for your recipe & video! I couldn't have done it without your help. You're an excellent teacher on Southern cooking. Now...I can pass this on to future generations in my family. I am so proud of my biscuits! From a Tennessee country woman! 😆
Thank you so much for your videos! I have been making your biscuits for about six months now and they are delicious. I make a double batch and freeze some and they are just as good as fresh ones. I recently experimented adding crumbled sausage and cheese and I am now hooked! For breakfast it is so easy and tasty to grab one from the freezer and in a little over a minute I am saying Mmm Mmm! And I love my blending fork! Thank you!!!
Ohhh my Tammy i did it. Made my first biscuits as you said and I made my first biscuits and in a skillet. I even posted my biscuits on Facebook. Thank you.
I'm not much of a cook..usually can biscuits..I saw your video and made my 1st ever batch of biscuits this morning..house full of boys and they are happy..and so am i..thank you ma'am
Love, love, love your videos. After watching your video, made some wonder biscuits!!!! Keep up the good work! Going to make Salmon Patties for lunch today!
Tried a run of these, their so good! Soft and tender yet would make a perfect biscuit for a sausage, bacon sandwich type biscuit without falling apart. Its a keeper! Ty for sharing.
It must be fate..... I made your delicious Strawberry Cheesecake (again) earlier this evening and had just sat down to have a piece. I was in the process of saying out loud, "Thank you Tammy!", when I received a notification for this Biscuit video, and there you were! Lol! I'm going to have to order some White Lily flour. Here in southern California, the only self rising flour I can find is Gold Medal and absolutely can not find whole buttermilk. Grrrr!
@@CollardValleyCooks, poop! Although I have followed your instructions for making biscuits and even with using Gold Medal flour and low fat buttermilk, my biscuits are pretty tasty. I can only imagine how amazing they'd be with the proper ingredients! I'll check on Amazon for White Lily or King Arthur.
Oh why do I have to be hungry now?? Omilord, those biscuits look so good. I am going to have to try your recipe. I know they're the best. Thanks for sharing!!
Baked a batch of these yest after making my own self rising flour and even with that, these were WUN-derful! Easy and perfect and thanks so much for sharing!!
Tammy, thank you so much for teaching me how to make biscuits!! Prior to your video , my biscuits always turned out tough, dry, and flat.. I think the crisco is really easy to work with rather than an all butter recipe.. it seems more forgiving? atleast to me. I showed the recipe to my mom and now she's more of an expert than me at making your buttermilk biscuits. I use half butter and half crisco now when I make them.. the butter gives a nice flavor. That folding really helps puff them up too, folding 8 times.
Your biscuits look delicious! I never heard of this kind of syrup, one of my favorite ways to eat biscuits is split open and topped with fried apples. Kind of like you would top with gravy. Yum. Hello from North Carolina. Melody B in NC
I'm 63 yrs old, had a home baking business, and never made a decent biscuit in my life 😱 but I followed this exactly and WOW! I can now say I made a good biscuit, they were beautiful, just like yours...thank you, you're so talented
Hi Tammy! The biscuits look just like the biscuits my grandmother made..so light & fluffy! She always served them with butter and the exact same golden syrup, too! I'm out of buttermilk or I'd have to be in the kitchen right now making biscuits! Will do that tomorrow! Thank you & Chris for another video!
This looks great! I eat mine like your husband, LOL! I've never heard of this type of syrup, I'm going to have to look it up. We grew up eating Brer Rabbit syrup or TJ Blackburn's syrup. I am from East Texas and we can't find Brer Rabbit syrup anymore and TJ Blackburn's have changed the recipe of it so we don't get it either. I'm going to try to find the golden eagle table syrup!
Looks so delicious thanks so much for sharing your family recipe can't wait to try to make it have a blessed day today in Jesus Christ our Lord GOD and savor JESUS CHRIST by looks very delicious
Hi Tammy. I've been trying to get more whole grains into my diet. Just wanted you to know that your biscuit recipe works great with King Arthur 100% Whole Grain White Whole Wheat Flour. The only change was a bit more baking powder (add 1 tsp). Thanks for your recipes! These biscuits were a hit with the family.
Hi Tammy, I tried this recipe this morning, and OMG, they came out amazing!! I have been trying different recipes for a long time, hoping to find a go-to homemade busicut recipe. Shortening is the only way to make a good biscuit. I have not found anything that matches it. I also use syrup and butter together. So yummy.

Yeah the more u knead them the higher they rise! The pea size shortening is what makes them fluff
