    I find this video very motivating and informative. I've been a travel nurse for a couple of years and I'm disgusted with how the rates have plummeted and dealing with the Bait and Switch tactics used by most agencies and recruiters. Maybe a class action will encourage them to do better. I will definitely be taking this class and praying for the best.

    I have been a travel nurse for 4 years and people always talk about what you talk about in this video, the problem is this. No one wants to put in the extra work. I'm willing to put in whatever work it takes to cut out all middle men, sent you and email and you should honestly just calling yourself a "travel nurse consultant", and get paid a consultant fee, whatever that may be

      I was following the advice of this Nomad Nurse and was starting up my LLC to earn more money as a travel nurse. I also failed to get any response from the Nomad Nurse when I reached out for advice/support. I eventually did more research including going to the very reliable Bluepipes website for nursing and I found this clarification about how the IRS sees independent contractors and it conflicts with the idea that travel nurses fit the definition:
      According to the IRS:
      The general rule is that an individual is an independent contractor if the payer has the right to control or direct only the result of the work and not what will be done and how it will be done.
      The main focus here should be on the part of this statement that says, “payer has the right to control only the result of the work…” Note the emphasis added on “only.”
      The IRS also states the following:
      You are not an independent contractor if you perform services that can be controlled by an employer (what will be done and how it will be done). This applies even if you are given freedom of action. What matters is that the employer has the legal right to control the details of how the services are performed.
      In the case of nurses and the vast majority of allied health workers much more than just the outcomes of work are controlled by the contracted facility. For example, in the case of travel nurses, the hospital will determine the hours worked as well as break times. The nurse will be using supplies and equipment belonging to the hospital. In addition, there are managers and doctors at the hospital who are supervising the nurse’s work. Moreover, nurses must seek the permission of a physician for decisions outside the nurse’s scope of practice which is a frequent occurrence. Unfortunately, these factors, taken a a whole, will disqualify someone as an independent contractor."
      So, I hope you did not cut too many ties or waste too much time and money based upon the Nomad Nurse's misinformation.

    Other videos say things like a 1099 Ind Contractor should start an LLC and transition to an S-Corp to help minimize Self Employment tax and FICA.
    It’s not like I can make an LLC for myself as a Registered Nurse, nobody would hire an LLC that claims to be a Registered Nurse

    I heard some companies don't accept IEN numbers. Do you have a list of travel companies that accept independent nurses with an IEN number? Also how do we find out our pay rate if we decide to work independently as a LLC?

    • @FallacyAsPraxis
      @FallacyAsPraxis Год назад +2

      An EIN is the tax ID that you use if you are working through your own business as an independent contractor. You would put the EIN on the W9 instead of your social security number. If you are doing this then you would be contracting directly with the hospital not with an agency/travel company. What he's talking about is incorporating your LLC so that YOU/your business becomes the travel company. If you are doing this through an agency then that would defeat the whole purpose of being an IC. The agency is always going to take their cut before they pay you.
      You are asking about your pay rate. It doesn't work like that. It works according to bill rates. The bill rate is the total amount that the contract pays. You negotiate the contract for a specified amount of money. (The amount offered will vary from one hospital system to another and according to the time of year.) You then allocate how you will break it down...salary, mileage, housing, etc....all of it comes out of the same pot. As a self-employed business owner the IRS allows you to take deductions that would not be available to you as an agency employee. So, your pay rate depends on whatever YOU decide to pay yourself. This is not something that you're going to learn by asking questions on RUclips. Pay the fee and take his course. What he's offering to teach you is very valuable business information that every locum should know.

    How do you find travel nurse contracts? Are you working with a VMN such as Medefis or some of the other ones out there?

    • @FallacyAsPraxis
      @FallacyAsPraxis Год назад

      If you really want to make money as a locum then you need to avoid facilities that use vendor managed systems like Medefis. Many facilities don't. Best way to find out is to call the nurse recruiter for the facility you're interested and ask. They will tell you.
      Even the big corporate clients of these vendor management systems negotiate their contracts in their own best interests. If they can't find the talent they need through agencies then they can (and do) attempt to recruit on their own. You can apply directly to them anyway and ask the recruiter if they will consider you as W9 IC.

My last ditch effort is to contract myself out. Can you provide any guidance?

    • @FallacyAsPraxis
      @FallacyAsPraxis Год назад

      The info he's offering is for individual nurses who want to become ICs. It seems that what you're really asking for is marketing advice to promote your agency. For an agency you will need to go through a vendor management company like Medefis.
