PACU is the country club of nursing units😅 That’s where I work. One of the nurses I work with used to work in the ED, and when they made the move to PACU, their ED friends said, “I didn’t know you retired.”😅
Kind of...unless you end up with post op unstable patient... very scary and stressful... anesthesia has severe outcomes...better know ABC.... trust me....
I worked L&D for 5 years prior to specializing in ICU. Let me tell you, L&D is super stressful. I find ICU and ER (I have done both) to be less stressful than L&D. Unlike the ER and ICU, L&D nurses do not have a doctor readily available (OBGYN). Yes anesthesia is always there but without the OBGYN you are on your own managing the situatiin until the doctor arrives. There are a lot of emergencies that can take place...like abruptions, cord prolapse, etc...You also work in the OR and PACU. Believe me, they deserve that pay.
How is there no dr there? I did a clinical rotation in LD and there were always doctors there. It was by far the lightest rotation we did the entire time. Some days there weren't any laboring mother's and the nurses just read their kindles. Even slower than that was NICU. I'm in a large city too, not some rural area. On the other hand, because it's a big city there are tons of hospitals so I guess it's possible that there is just enough space to go around. That said I'm pretty sure I don't want to do LD because while the good days are good, the sad days are sadddd.
No NICU? 😂. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made. Been at it for ten years now and I love love love it. My coworkers have been pushing me to be an NNP but I’m still thinking about it. Preemie power!!!
What do you love about it? I'm going into my 3rd of 4 semesters in my ABSN program. I'm interested in Psych but would love to know what you feel are the pros and cons. Thank you kindly.
I went to an OB clinic because of the M-F schedule but I hate it. It’s sooooo boring & I feel like I’m wasting my education. I worked in the hospital for 3 years as a float pool tech but as a RN idk what floor to go to but I know I gotta get out of the clinic ASAP!
Will you please talk a little about wound care nursing. I'm in my last months of clinicals and I am so interested, but there is very little information out there about it. What type of people do you think will be happy in this specialty? I love everything really and I'm having a hard time choosing. I love Psych, ICU, CPU, and ER! I don't know where to start! Lol!
Awesome video!! Another difference I barely noticed as a new grad is that only the ER has mid shifts! I thought that was awesome since I thought it was always 7pm-7am and vice versa! other units may have those shifts also, but where I live I’ve only heard that for ER!
Lmao on your description of OR nurse; you should def check it out more for future videos! I'm a surgical tech, thinking of nursing school. I love my nurses 💓 it's a unique field. But NOT boring!! Everyday and every case is different, eventhough you still have your standard of care. Great video, thanks!
Same thing here. Surgical tech thinking of becoming an RN. I originally had no plans of the medical field but the OR changed my mind. It has me wanting to learn and do more.
Thank you so much for your videos and content bud. I'm finishing my first year of the RPN program here in Canada and plan on becoming an RN eventually so it's nice to see these videos to get thinking about options eventually. I love how diverse the field is and how easy it is to transfer to a different unit. Thanks again!
I would be graduating soon from nursing school ! Your videos help a lot in knowing more about different specialties in nursing! and Thanks for sharing that with us.
Former ER.....home health... Plastic surgery OR circulating and pre op psychiatric .. now PACU.... considering going into Med surgical.... thinking about.... going backwards...my field the pay is low
I’m about to finish my first year of nursing school, and I plan to get my masters later on to become a NP of family practice. Is there a certain specialty that is recommended for new grads to go into if they plan to become a NP later on?
Male nurse here, currently working in the drug rehab unit of a psych hospital. Absolutely love it. I was afraid I would lose my skills, but I feel like I do more real nursing here than anywhere else I've been, not least because I actually have time to spend with my clients.
Ramirez1998 I was blessed to get a job offer before graduating this semester, but more than half of my classmates are struggling right now. A lot of graduate nurse residency programs are postponed or are on hire freezes sadly :/ best of luck!
What if you enjoy working by yourself for the most part (like in a lab)? Lol Is there anything you would suggest for a new RN grad that's ultra low stress (relative to nursing)?
Specialize too. CVICU is probably the best for Crna school. Like 90% of your patients require invasive hemodynamic monitoring and pressors or htn management with clevidipine drips. All qualities Crna schools look for.
I have been interested in Nursing School for years but medical terminology is not my strong point but I do everything else. Any suggestions because I taken the class 5 times and I keep failing and I work in medicine
I wouldnt let that stop you. I am graduating nursing school in 5 weeks and I never took a formal medical terminology class You learn medical terminology along the way little by little
Like the previous comment.. you learn along the way. I had no prior nursing experience before I went to nursing school. I’m one semester in and it feels like I have been given a plethora of newfound knowledge haha (probably cause my program is accelerated and I have to keep up) but I would say you will learn while in school, 👍🏽
1:08 ER
3:51 Medsurg
5:50 ICU
7:27 OR
8:23 L&D
9:28 Psych
11:18 PACU
12:43 PCU// CPU

Does PACU really hire new grads? In my area, it seems most places require at least a couple years of ICU experience to get into the PACU.
Kind of...unless you end up with post op unstable patient... very scary and stressful... anesthesia has severe outcomes...better know ABC.... trust me....
No pACU. Not country club position in FL. It's a nightmare.
I'm a BSN,RN psych nurse❗ I currently work at a level one trauma center❗

I want to be an ER nurse but as a new grade i also want to do PCU/step down to have that base knowledge before jumping into the ER.
The more I watch this kind of videos the more I can't decide on what I want to do. I just know I do not want to be limited in my ability.
I can confirm! Psych nursing is the least stressful nursing specialty. Chill most days but it can get chaotic on some other days.
Im a psyche nurse and its amazing i love it.
What do you love about it? I'm going into my 3rd of 4 semesters in my ABSN program. I'm interested in Psych but would love to know what you feel are the pros and cons. Thank you kindly.
Elaborate 😭

So everything else is 8 hours
Traumas are waaaaaaay cooler in the OR ! Cracked chest big open belly it gets no better (said the OR nurse lol )
I know you said there are many more specialties. Oncology is also a very interesting area!
In my hospital, the oncology floor is considered a med-surg unit.
pathways to flight nursing would start with ED or ICU in case anybody is interested in flying
That’s where I would love to go with my career.
Also get Paramedic credentials.

Nothing about dialysis nurse travelers.. I would love to see something about that.
Im currently in a nursing program, and heard that it’s near impossible to get an OB nursing job as a male .
Male nurse here, currently working in the drug rehab unit of a psych hospital. Absolutely love it. I was afraid I would lose my skills, but I feel like I do more real nursing here than anywhere else I've been, not least because I actually have time to spend with my clients.
CPCU RN then I did cath lab and went back to CPCU. Loved it!
How was cath lab compared to other?
Anyone else a new grad and can’t find a job?
Ramirez1998 I was blessed to get a job offer before graduating this semester, but more than half of my classmates are struggling right now. A lot of graduate nurse residency programs are postponed or are on hire freezes sadly :/ best of luck!
No mention of Cath lab 😢
Are there a lot of psych nurse travel jobs out there?
Well should’ve waited till it got to part of the video 🤣 question has been answered
What if you enjoy working by yourself for the most part (like in a lab)? Lol Is there anything you would suggest for a new RN grad that's ultra low stress (relative to nursing)?
I was going to look into research nursing or employee health. I know this isn't travel nursing. Just trying to figure things out.
Lmao I’ve been steadily and consistent getting trippled in ICU. Whew times have changed.
You were talking about of every department inside the hospital. It's about the registered nurse...what department they could go.
Which from your list would you say would best assist the transition to a career as a CRNA?
ICU
Specialize too. CVICU is probably the best for Crna school. Like 90% of your patients require invasive hemodynamic monitoring and pressors or htn management with clevidipine drips. All qualities Crna schools look for.
Great video. The highest paid APRN IS CRNA.
You’re right! Totally forgot
@@CrosbyTheNomadNurse You say you a nurse but to me you a great boss/leader!
Thank you for sharing your expertise -- it is really helpful :)
I need help with nursing school .I am a teacher in Asia. After that I need a recruiter.

Forensic death investigator 🖐🏽
That’s what I want to be
Which is the easiest lol
You really dont make nursing sound good at all. Everywhere in nursing is overwhelming 😂😂😂
