I was a DJ in Texas when this came out as a single. A friend of mine and I sat in a control room at WACO and listened to it repeatedly for an hour at least.
Mozart wrote a symphony at 8. An opera at 12. That being said, Penny Lane is an amazing piece of music. Probably the fabs best. And I think Bach would have loved that walking bass line and trumpet solo.
We're lucky if a Pop band can tell any kind of story (generally, other than 'I love you'...) But these guys set the entire scene as musical Shakespeares ~not onstage, but the very countryside, the entire village, townspeople, weather, traffic, fireman, bankers, street vendors, chippie, constable, ~by God you could count the freckles on a young girl's cheek in the lyrics of the Beatles.
GREAT to SEE the music made, what a production... all the humanity, the talent, the dedication, the joy in that group of volunteers !!! THANK YOU !!! A+++
Again, very well done throughout. Some funny stuff going on in the orchestra near the beginning on what should be a C#m7 chord on 'photographs'. In the subsequent verses all is ok at that juncture.
Marcus Tullius Cicer I am glad that I found this it is quite nice! And thanks for your comments. You rock! "PEWDIEPIE OUR INSPIRATION" that is the name of my latest RUclips. Can you after listening (please go listen) determine what Beatles song I used? Please go give it a listen (Thanks!) and let me know. Thanks again!
+Jessica Torres Flores Hola Ms. Flores.
This is how Paul should play his tours instead of playing samples in a keyboard synth for the orchestrated parts. I mean, his rock band IS amazing, but adding a true orchestra would make it PERFECT.
I agree, I wish the The Beatles had reunited and played with the Boston Pops, when Arthur Fiedler proposed that they get together to play these songs. It would have been an awesome event.
The percussionists here😄😄👍👍🌈🌈 awesome!! But the comments abt the last note by that percussionist guy, I think the note was *correctly off*... Bcuz yup, the note from the MV sounds a bit off too😊😊
The overwhelming problem with attempting such a massive undertaking as reproducing a piece of Beatles music is the simple fact of its almost complete familiarity by such a large portion of the world. As Robin Williams once remarked concerning Beatles music, "It has become a part of our DNA!" For someone who grew up with them while they were together, as I did, any inconsistency just jumps out at you and that is why taking on such iconic music is extremely problematic at best. For those who aren't quite so soaked in their recordings this performance adds an additional dimension to the music but for me there's a certain annoyance which is sadly unavoidable. Personally speaking, "Penny Lane" is the quintessential Beatles song. For me, it's THE Masterpiece among masterpieces so what bothers me about this performance is the lead vocalists phrasing. It's just plain wrong. Those who have internalized this song since it was released in 1967 know exactly what I mean when they hear this. The absolute worst part was that dissonant ending chord on the organ at the end at 2:50. That was a big screw up and simply did NOT belong there. It was painful to hear. Some might read this and think that I would give this a "Thumbs down" but actually I'm happily giving it a "Thumbs Up" because I DO believe that it will turn some more people on to the genius of the Beatles music when they hear it presented like this. For those who read this and say, Oh geez, give me as break, well... reading what I wrote here gives you a small idea of the bands impact . They were that influential and they touched us that deeply.
I disagree. I LIKE different versions of Beatles tunes. Covers of MacCartney songs, especially, sound better when somebody else is on vocals. It is not that he's a BAD vocalist. It is that there are so many who are better. And he tends to rely on a the vocals to carry the song. That is why orchestral arrangements of his songs, as compared to Lennon's, tend to fall flat. And this fell a bit flat, in my opinion. And, because, as you noted. the vocalist isn't very good.
Fica mais do que claro porque os Beatles pararem de fazer shows ao vivo em 1966. A maioria das músicas deles seriam impossíveis de serem executadas ao vivo na quela época da mesma forma que foram gravadas em estúdio .
Huge thanks to one of our fans who just donated $100 to The Magical Orchestra. Their pledge will be matched 2 to 1 by an anonymous friend of the Orchestra! If you've enjoyed our videos, please make a donation today or tomorrow so we can carry on with our unique concerts and programs. Thank you! fnd.us/c/4EnGf/sh/5GbRe
They are in awe of them. Just the invention and the sublime melodies. The very highest qualified classical musicians cannot write at this level. The Beatles are just like Mozart only in the 20th century. You will never see the likes of them again.
Awesome version. Best orchestra version. You got it :)
It never gets old ,just better every time you listen .
I just found this orchestra on You Tube and watched several so far, all great. Did you notice how the ladies up front were rocking out? Heartwarming.
This version is great... Everyone seems to be enjoying.
Kudos to Mr. Mendocha on piccolo trumpet.
1:22 - 1:30 the guy at the right reaction always makes me smile, its priceless
Ferpa I think so too
It's just so awesome!
In my most difficult times the past 50 years, I always listen to this song and it flushes my my blues right away!

It’s hard to believe Paul was 25 when he wrote this , amazing !
People at 25 huh? What they are able to do huh?😊😊👍👍the Beatles are just awesome overall...
Mozart wrote a symphony at 8. An opera at 12. That being said, Penny Lane is an amazing piece of music. Probably the fabs best. And I think Bach would have loved that walking bass line and trumpet solo.
Outstanding performance!
This song always reminds me that George Martin was a National treasure.

I did not know that Ray Charles also played drums. Interesting. Also, the Tamborine guy played the Penny Lane out of that tambourine.
photographs love it
who are these people who speak a language containing the word Photograph ?
Amazing!
Again, very well done throughout.

the solo trumpet player is amazing! It's hard to play, also if he missed the highest notes
He did well good job to him

He sounds like Paul after catching the dreaded virus.

+Jay Yarbrough Music Thank you, Jay!

Does anyone know the name of the solo trumpeter, great performance 👌

Spot on. This is the soundtrack of my life.
I agree. But, please, listen to this video e tell me your opinion. I would aprecciate.

I thought the vocalist had a good voice.
Well said.

It is so sad to see that a lot of the orchestra seems to been surprised that this kind of music even existed.
Mi-a placut mai mult varianta in versiunea "The Analogues"
2:50 - when you ruin a perfect performance with a devastetingly wrong last chord! ;-)
I noticed that hhaha
yes, that was brutal.
And 30 peeps got so excited they pushed dislike button by mistake..
Somebody smack the dude with the tambourine! Haha. Piano player had a difficult piece to play. 😉
I wonder what the musicians or other classical musicians actually think of this and other Beatles songs. Do they laugh at them?
They are in awe of them. Just the invention and the sublime melodies. The very highest qualified classical musicians cannot write at this level. The Beatles are just like Mozart only in the 20th century. You will never see the likes of them again.
Where is Penny Lane? London?
LIVERPOOL!
Phillipe Hernandez _
Liverpool !
Na it's an unimpressive residential area of Aigburth in Liverpool.
I think I fell in love with the drummer a little. Definitely a Sam Jackson vibe going on.
nothing is worse than doing excellent performance and hit the wrong chord at the very end ...lol
maybe he can do that over again!
Horns made this song.
Paul can't quite hit the notes....otherwise AWESOME!
Ma come fai a cantare in pubblico? SEI STONATO COME UNA CAMPANA!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic!
