Man, that Memphis Grizz team in 2012-13 was so underrated, Z-Bo and Marc Gasol were having a great season and they were both all stars i believe that year, Gasol had a great year and he won DYOP that year also

It's a real shame Memphis just isn't a popular free agent destination. They had a solid team for a while in a Western Conference that was incredibly tough. Just one All Star/Superstar level player could've pushed them over the edge and made them real contenders

Noah, Hibbert, Gasol, Duncan, Dwight, Ibaka (pretty much played Perkin's role), Bogut, DJ, Horford, Tyson Chandler, Asik, Lopez twins. These guys made it fearful for anyone to drive in and were mobile enough to bother mid-range shots consistently, very reminiscent of 90's defense. This mini era of respectable big men in the paint 09' - 13' may primarily be the indirect cause to the quick transition and evolution of the fast ball movement, run and gun 3pt playstyle we see today which both championship Spurs and GSW were the first to perfectly execute and master, which is now being emulated by almost every single team this era.

@@DelightFools lay off the drugs guy. None of those guys were as good as you made them seem. The two best Centers at the time were an injured Howard and Bynum and no one was even close. The 2013 season just showed a lack of good centers overall with the best power forwards being Blake Griffin and Kevin Love. The best players were mainly point guards in 2013. The center position was so dead.

You drop that 2013 Grizzlies in the 90s and I'm sure they would win a championship even with Jordan around. The pace they played in 2013 was the slowest, but you compare that pace to the one 90s teams played and the 2013 Grizzlies would have one of the fastest paces if they played in the 90s. Combine that with their stellar defense, and they would have the chance to become a dynasty if they played in the 1990s.

How great that team was just makes the grizzlies picking Hashan Thabeet at number 2 in 2009 so much worse. The grizzlies drafting a player like James harden, Stephen curry, or Demar derozan could of equaled a championship

To make the playoffs every season from 2011-2017 in a tough stacked western conference. Should’ve shown how talented the Grizzlies was. Their core pretty much stayed with Conley, Gasol, Randolph, and Allen. Hopefully Conley comes back Healthy, and Jaren Jackson turns out to be a pretty solid draft pick. They’ll be able to make some noice in the West again.

this is great i like to learn about specific seasons or a period of time in a teams history. I'd like to see something about the Utah Jazz with Boozer and Williams.

I loved that team and at the time when they were assembled we really looked like a championship caliber team if only things broke the right way for us. They never did however it was great to see the window open for a while and hope we could get in before it closed. Mike Conley Jr is now my favorite basketball player of all time over Iverson just because of this run. He once gave me a fist 👊 bump at the end of a game and Ruddy Gay gave me a head nod and the peace ✌️ sign because he was farther away and a reporter was talking to him. Great times and the arena is literally off Beale Street
