- In today's amazing video we're going inside a prison cell to do a search!
Idle hands are the devil's playground, and that is especially true for inmates in prison. Prisoners are stripped of all belongings, but there is a trade system in prison and a smart prisoner could wind up trading for a cell phone, and other things. That's why prison guards routinely search the cells to make sure dangerous things, or escape plans (prison escape ideas) are not being hidden.

As a former CO I was prepared to pick holes in whatever was said because unless you've been an officer, almost everything you hear about prison is wrong. But this was well researched and put together

Wellch technically yes, but the warden would not be called for something as simple as a cell search. Even a heavier shake down is done at the discretion of the sgts. Basic cell searches are done routinely by the officers.

I remember my first cell search. It was totally unannounced and even came with a little drugs dog running around. Only took a couple of minutes.

Not much if it is out at sea. In port it will get messed up bad. Tsunamis cause damage when they hit area where the water depth rapidly decreases.

Hehe this is what I do for a living. Although I work at a kind of laid back prison where people are doing programs to better themselves before they leave we still are required to do cell searches. Honestly I hate tearing the place apart and usually like to put everything back to where I found it (roughly). I've never found anything other than magnets, extra food, and cleaning supplies. And yes they aren't allowed to have extra fruit from the kitchen or veggies or cleaning supplies. But I'd consider that a win because some other officers find weapons and razors the hard way.
Mind if I ask what State/prison you work at?? I've never heard of a laid back prison here in the USA.

Roof tiles? Both prisons I've been in had cement roofs, along with the cement walls and floor. You're not hiding anything in the roof. Now inside the actual light fixtures yes.
Other places I've seen for hiding spots not mentioned was inside the internal parts of a microwave.
As a former Corrections Officer, I can almost completely vouch for this sort of thing. Leave nothing unchecked! Leaving something unchecked could easily end up getting someone else killed.

Pretty accurate! But you always knew when and what time a search was happening. I took the thread from my bedclothes and fed it along the wall to another cell, search over you pull it back under the doors, or you can throw a line between cells that allowed an arm out the window or bars. Now a days I just don't go to prison..that's really the best idea kids 😕

Im a correctional officer In my state we are requires us to leave the cell in 70% of the way it was found. But sometimes it doesnt always happen especially when we find contraband

Prison officers don’t need probable cause to conduct cell searches. They can search anything they want, anytime they want.

I was a correctional officer for a prison. The only thing I would correct is that the officers should not leave the cell a mess. We are trained to leave the cell the way it was when we entered it. It for the safety of the officers so you don’t anger the inmate.

At 0:52 you said you might have been told to hide things, that is uncommon as usually you hear people hiding things in common areas because if they are going to lose contraband it would be in their best interest to not get someone else caught up.

Correctional correction: Bedding & pillows don't get shredded to look for stuff. They're manufactured to be tear-proof so contraband cannot be hidden within. Bedding gets removed & replaced if they are found to have holes or broken seams.

It's not always like that man I've tried my best to leave it as neat as the inmate or detainee its easier to gain respect for them and willingness to help work around the jail.
