I was lucky enough to see the house in the late 80’s. I owned a local business in Malibu and Mr Steven’s had me come by. I was dumbfounded when I entered. I had no idea it had a basement of all things!
Great that you had the privilege to visit the house. It has amazing views and its overwhelming to be there. Thanks to me you know that there's a cellar now. That's why I make these videos: to give people a complete overview.
This house is amazing in every way. The site, the materials, the design, and the incredible beauty of the views. I can imagine waking up to look out at the Pacific Ocean. It's simply awesome.
I think it's one of John Lautner's best designs. I love it. It looks small and strange from the outside, but it's so beautiful and spacious from inside.
I’ve always loved this house, but I’ve only ever seen a few pictures, I didn’t realize the house was so big! Thank you for such a beautifully detailed tour! Amazing house, genius architect, great video!
Thank you for your reaction! This stimulates me to on. Your reaction is exactly the reason I started this channel: I saw multiple pictures of house by John Lautner butI never could get a complete view of the layout of the houses. So I searched the internet to find pictures and drawings and reconstructed them. Now I share that knowledge with people who had the same interest as I had! Check my channel for more houses by John Lautner.
You're welcome. A new serie of videos will come up the coming weeks, I'm now busy with making them. Yes the house is larger than it looks on the outside.
He's my favorite architect and this house shows why. I enjoyed your video SO MUCH. Very clear and such wonderful photos and explanations. Great work on an amazing home!
Thank you! Really nice to read that you enjoyed the video, your comment stimulates me to make more content. This house is also one of my favorites, its a compact house that feels very large at the same time. John Lautner is my favorite architect, when I'm done with making videos of all his houses, I'm gonna videos about all houses by my other hero F.L Wright.
Yes, I'm always surprised that John Lautner designs are not more well known because each of them is brilliant. That's also the reason why Istarted this channel to give the houses the attention they deserved. Hopefully my videos make John Lautner and his houses more well known.
Yes, the Stevens house is really a cool design. I think its one of John Lautner's most underrated works because only a few people know of it. Tomorrow I will upload a new video
@@MilesBellas yes Zaha Hadid is also brilliant architect but i'm not really with her work. Definitely inthe future I will research her more and make a video about one of het designs.
@@SuperJobbel No Doubt about that.. The Student becomes 'The Master'.. You can see the FLW influence clearly but JL just kept going, pushing the limits of imigination, design and construction .. Love these videos BTW.. Thank you so much for your work!
Yes that's definitely true. The engineers are the heroes of the architect, they shoud have more recognition. Unfortunately there's no much information about them, so I couldn't include it in the video.
It really is an absolute gem! Your videos and virtual presentations of the houses are excellent, and so is your English, I just wanted to point out one little mistake that ocurrs in each of your videos, if I may: You keep using the word "spatial" where i think the word you're looking for is "spacious", to indicate that some structure, or building has a large internal volume. "Spatial" is "something of/or pertaining to space" (in general), "spacious" means having a much space (= "roomy"). Hope that made sense. Best wishes, please keep up the awesome work!
Thank you for your feedback. Any kind of advise is very helpfull. Now I know the difference between ''spaciouss'' and ''spaciall''. This friday I shall upload my new video about Fallingwater by F.L.W, many more videos will follow after that.
@@SuperJobbel Very cool! I definitely look forward to that video! I'm super happy I found your channel, I've been looking for resources and materials on Lautner's houses for a long time. Lautner and FLW are my absolutel favorite architects, and while I put Lautner on the number one spot, his work would never have come about without FLW's own. Both of them are absolute masters of creating spaces that are both human-sized and also breathtakingly monumental at the same time. Visiting their houses feels like a neverending adventure for the senses. Keep up the great work!
2017 "After almost four years and an $11 million discount, the John Lautner-designed Stevens’ House in Malibu has finally sold. The buyer is none other than Academy Award nominated actor Edward Norton, who paid $11.8 million for the sculptural beach home. It was last listed for $13.75 million, but that’s nothing compared to the $22 million that the seller, Michael LeFetra, was hoping for when he listed the 3,366-square-foot split-level abode on the market in 2013. Sadly for LeFetra, who embarked on a “significant restoration” of the house, he didn’t even break even-he paid $13.8 million for the five-bedroom, five-bathroom abode in 2007. "
Okay interesting I didn't knew the prices of the house.... thanks! Real-estate is not always a good investment so it seems. Anyway I think that 11 million is still a bargain for a Lautner designed home in Malibu.
I LOVE your videos, your Lautner knowledge is over the top! ... (SHAME for a Masterpiece like this beach house to be wasted on one of the most infamous Hollywood assholes).
You're welcome! I did a lot of a research on Lautner, because there was any hardly information about his house, now I shared this knowledge with everyone who was once seeking like me.
I agree this is one of Lautner's most ingenious designs!
Yes, and still the house is so litttle known: it deserves more attention.
Thank you for creating this series. ❤️ It is delightful!😁😁
You're welcome. I like making these videos. John Lautner is a brilliant architect and he deserves a good explanation of his work.
A very original blend of materials and forms...

They keep getting better… I initially wasn’t going to watch but this is one of the most amazing uses of land 🥂🤗
Yes, its a very clever design still its one of Lautner's lesser known works.
Beautiful home, what a great place to grow up. Nice touch with the surf tunes 🏄

another masterpiece of brilliant archtecture by Mr. Lautner. Ed Norton is lucky to own this one...
Yes, it's a masterpiece. I don't know if Edward Norton still owns it today...at the time video it was the case, but maybe he has sold it.
Looks/seems bigger on the inside than expected. Thanks for these excellent videos, Jop.

It's surprising this ingenious design isn't more well known. Lautner's visual intelligence is amazing. It gives a So-Cal inflection to high modernism.

Stunning, such a shame Architects lack inspiration this day and age.
Such a cool design and you’ve made another wonderful video for us to get to know it better! Thank you again for this exploration. :)

The subtle changes over time are also interning -like the solar panels!
Interesting that you notice that, I didn't saw that detail. Yes, solar panels on houses didn't exist in 1968.
When you're done with the Lautner collection, you should move onto other MCM architects. Great videos!
Yes I will, i'm preparing some videos about Frank Lloyd Wright designs.
Zaha Hadid ?!
John Lautner is under rated TBH.

Stunning building! The man was a genius...FLW would be proud (or not) but hey .. at least people still live in his creations!
Yes he was really a genius, FLW indeed was proud of him, he called him ''my best student'' .

Yes this house is also one of my favorites.
Stevens house by lautner a masterpiece….
The engineers should also be given some credit for these types of homes, architects dream up the concepts and the structural engineers make it work.

No I didn't "over use it".
It's a quote from The Observer in 2017, an article written by Morgan Halberg .
Don’t forget the Balboa Island house which has a similar answer to narrow waterfront lots.
Yes I have made a video about that house. It's the Rawlins House ruclips.net/video/NlivxHgwFE4/видео.html

If Heaven exists, John Lautner designed it.
Or collaborated on the design!
Beautifull sayin! :) Couldn't agree with you more!
