Thank you, Mr. McIlwee! We wanted to drive by the house but missed it and got turned around. Pulled onto a street to figure out where we were. Looked around for a street sign and then up through our sunroof -- and there it was! From the back was a great view! Thank you for taking care of such a wonderful piece of art!

Great house. Lautner was a genius, he created so many beautiful houses, Chemosphere, Elrod house, Arango, Sheats/ Goldstein residence, Silvertop, the list goes on.

My home is below the Elrod house in Palm Springs. Always fun to look up at and can be seen from so many vantage points all over the Valley. This is another great and I admire your dedication. They absolutely should be preserved. Thanks for sharing!

John Lautner (1911-1994) had chosen a long span steel frame for the roof so he could be flexible in the organization of the interior underneath it, as the partitions were not load-bearing. One of 5 house he finished in 1962... the best architect ever!

This should more accurately be titled, "John Mcllwee on *Restoring* Lautner's Garcia House." Also, oddly--and conspicuously--absent from the narrative is any holistic or detailed view of the outcome.
why should you want such a house and then tear it out for some nasty formica
Lots of pix of plans and the guys face not very much of the actual structure. Very disappointing.
