Jenny Doan demonstrates how to make an adorable bird quilt using precut fat quarters or scraps. This pattern was designed by Jean-sophie Wood, creator of the Block Lotto blog.
During the early 2000s, Jean-sophie designed quilt block patterns for her blog. Every month, quilters mailed in their finished blocks, and one lucky entrant won the lot! The Block Lotto is now a distant memory, but Jean-sophie’s patterns are still available, including this delightful Bird Block.
Feather your nest with these sweet patchwork birds; they’re great scrap busters and such a joy to make!

These birds are so stinkin’ cute! They look like Partridge family birds! Thanks Jenny! This is a really fun one! 🌷
That's exactly what I thought! 70s kids!
They really do 😁
They look like tropical birds, lol, thanks to the creator for letting you teach this.
Thanks for sharing. I was a caregiver for my mom when she had Alzheimer’s and we use to watch birds together. She would love these little birds.
I love this. I think I'd like to make some bird blocks and some birdhouse blocks. A whole neighborhood. These birds remind me of the sandpipers that run on the beaches in Florida.
I'd love to see a birdhouse block! That sounds so cute with the birds!
Love your new word "scrabric" for scrap fabric 😊
“Scabric,” I love it!!! This is such a great tutorial….It reminds me of my mom and dad. They were avid bird watchers 💜
I finished making my shopping list for a different quilt pattern from MSQC just this morning - now I have to buy more fabric, Oh Dear 🤣
I hate when that happens!!! hahaha
Well, let's just add another awesome project to do, love these birds !!!!!!
This is the best MSQC tutorial EVER! Made me laugh.
Ohmygoodness I see a flock of birds heading my way. 😊
That’s the cutest bird quilt ever!! Jenny you get younger and younger!!! Thanks for making us all smile!
I LOVE quilt blocks that contain a consistent element and a dynamic element. All the movement of the legs is so grounded by the birds, it's really lovely
Jenny I could not stop laughing at the new MSQC word of the day...Scrabric! That made my night and I'm totally going to use that word now! Such adorable birds!
Me too! If we can all be convinced to say Bennifer, why not scrabric. I'm in!
Jenny you made me so tickled watching you make the bird's.
I really enjoyed this pattern.
You're right, you can't help but be happy, & smile when you make these sweet little birds. I'm going to see if I can figure out way's to add a hat, or something to them too. Ha, ha, thank you, Jenny.
Love the ombré fabric!
I love this lady. She makes everything look soooo easy.
Love these birds.
They reminded of the partridge from the Partridge Family Show opening.
"as long as your bird has a beak, 'cause he needs to sing" 🎵🐦😍
There are so many options with this block, thank you for sharing! And thank you to Block Lotto for the original pattern! So glad you got to do a tutorial on this, added to my library for later

This makes me happy, going to have to make some birds in remembrance of my mom who loved mountain blue birds. She was a beautiful seamstress and quilter. She passed away last October.
Hi Paula, how's your day going with you?
Just the cutest thing ever!! What a great way to use scraps and remember the quilts we have all made.
Love the happy little birds. They are so cute.
That block is adorable! It would look great with alternating blocks of butterflies for a very summery look. Thanks for sharing this

My friend and I did this! We had so much fun!
Oh Jenny, this little bird looks so adorable! It makes me smile too. Thank you for sharing, ❤️❤️❤️
🥰 Chris
Oh my goodness, what a darling spring pattern. So very addictive and adaptable to your personal style. I could vision this as a border over a kitchen window that changes seasonally. Thanks Ginny and the MSQ Crew for bringing this block to us.
The bird is adorable! Thanks for the inspiration & excellent instruction!
I am going to try making a nest for them, instead of legs. Just guessing here, about a 7 x 3 brown rectangle snowballed on each end with a 3 inch square. I can't wait to try this!
What a perfect pattern...and your happiness about the bird! I love the way you show us your patchwork. I made a quilt from the house pattern, now I have to built birds...you are a wounderful inspiration every time♡
I LOVED these birds! 🦢
I made one last night just to try. It was fun and easy. Thank you.
Thanks so much for showing us how to make these adorable birds. They do put a smile on my face. Thanks!
So darn cute. I have challenged myself to not buy anymore fabric untill I have used up my scraps. So this is perfect. Birds and houses together would be awesome quilt
Adorable pattern. Jenny needed to throw in one little Chuck the Duck for added humour! Thanks for always producing great content! Cheers,
❤️
Such a beautiful quilt
Love these birds…..I can’t wait to make a bench pillow with them! Thanks for sharing!
Oooh, a bench pillow!! YES :)
I’m going to use this pattern to make a wall hanging of sandpipers on the beach. Can’t wait to get started.
This is absolutely adorable. Love these birds. There are so many possibilities of bird projects to make. I love it. Thank you, Jenny. And feel better very soon. 😍❤️🪡🧵
I LOVE this!
I think it would make a great temperature quilt. I’d make 1 bird to represent a week-the body and wing represent the avg high/avg low temp OR the highest/lowest temp for the week.
Thank you, Jenny, for your wonderful tutorials-and ALL you do! Stay well!💜
Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
Brilliant idea!! 🌡️
I love these little birds they are so cute. I think I have to sew some, even because we love to watch the many birds in our garden and feed them all over the year, specially in the Winter. The birds must look great with a background with green leaves, too, and some berries mixed in between. Thank you Jenny to share this pattern with us. Many greetings
What an adorable bird. I love how you brought nature inside. 💖💖💖

These birds made me smile as soon as I saw them. I'll have to make a bunch so I can smile in every room. Maybe some pink flamingos for the bathroom? Thank you, Jenny, for sharing this pattern and a fun way to use the ombre fabric (which I'd looked at and wondered how to use it).
