  • Episode 595. Elevator Row sent me a sample to try today. It is tasty, but so much Maple Syrup. What do you think about whisky with strong cask flavours like this? Tasty for me, but certainly different. #elevatorrow #canadian #whiskyneighbour

Being a bit of a whisky purist myself, I get what you're saying here. It's possible the maple cask was well infused with syrup when the whisky was added. Some maple syrups are much stronger in flavour too, especially if it's that gorgeous, nearly black, less processed stuff. I remember picking some up roadside years ago when I was in Quebec. Looked like tar, poured like molasses, tasted like heaven!
I'd probably enjoy this once in a while as a 'dessert' sipper, add one ice cube, but I suspect that it would more likely be added into pies, BBQ sauce, or good old hot chocolate. Ain't nothin wrong with that...😉
Suspect you're gearing up for year end at work. Hopefully it doesn't get too frantic.
    Cheers Jon 🥃

Your ideas for how it could be enjoyed seem spot on. This is a sweet one would add a lovely nose, but some kick in the sip. Yep, year end is coming, not it's hold on till the end of June!

Great video Jon. I appreciate Grain Henge putting this out as a single malt and a higher ABV. So many distilleries go the route of a maple flavoured whisky product at 30-35% which I find are like drinking maple syrup candy and far too sweet. Sounds like a neat dram but one I will pass on this time around due to availability but won’t be turning down a sample. Cheers sir. Enjoy the game!

So far, it is a better version of a Maple Cask, but the nose is still so sweet!

    I´m hoping for Stars-Panthers final, as a Finn.😁

That would be a good set, but of course, I need to see the Oilers show up!

I don't think I can get any Grain Henge here in Canucks country (Gibsons, B.C., near Vancouver). I'd like to try the Maple Syrup, but as a Canucks fan I know that you can't always get what you want. Go Oilers!?

Respect for commenting. Yep, as fans we do not always get what we want. They may ship to BC, I'm not sure. Cheers!

Nice review I’m not much of a finished guy most are either to sweet or just off tasting. Rum finished bourbon and rye’s just have a very odd flavor for me. Now some toasted bottles are okay but double oaked is again just not something I enjoy.

It sounds great, but 120 for the bottle is a little too rich for my blood

I appreciate the video Jon however that heavy maple syrup note is a big turn off. Not my idea of a good single malt whisky. My initial thoughts, listening to your review suggests to me that the maple syrup barrel is just too heavy handed.
