Hello Sarthak. Thank you for taking the time to comment. Reading this definitely inspires me to create more videos like this. What other problems are you having that you would like help fixing?
@@michaelgumleyguitar like CAGED system to understand, and better start with anything in basics for finger picking styles to learn... Some of them are here only to learn things like Marcin, Peter Gergely, etc etc
Hi Michael, indeed these are wonderful exercises. My Finger-3 & Finger-4 are not listening to my brain and won't budge. Probably these finger training or rather brain training exercises are going to tame the fingers. Thanks for sharing this information with us. Hope to see more of you with more informative videos.
You're very welcome! Those fingers are the hardest ones to get under control. Just do these exercises consistently and in a few weeks you'll develop much great control and dexterity!
Michael thanks for all of the info. My third finger will not cooperate but I'm moving it the best I can - over to the B string and I can see it won't be long and I'll be able to touch the high E string. Thanks also for the video on learning scales. I just learned Blackberry Blossom like you said. I took 4 notes played 3 times. Add another 4 notes 3 times then played all 8 notes 3 times. I was a little hesitant if I'd remember as the cadence got longer but it works just like you said. I'm going to learn new tunes this way from now on. Can't thank you enough.
This is a really good exercise. I was looking at my little finger to move and my ring finger moved instead. And visa-vera. Crazy! I can feel the tiredness in my hand and forearm. Looking forward to the progress. Thank you!
How's it Michael!! I need to learn EVERYTHING!!!! Strumming is a struggle. I can't wait to try this exercise. I'm subscribed and looking forward to learning more from you. Thank you very much for your lessons and time to make them!
Hey Darren - yes that's where you put your thumb. Imagine you have a tennis ball in your hand or are holding a can of drink sideways - Everyone's hands are slightly different but can make the same general shape with the thumb pointing up rather than sideways
Hi Michael, thank you very much for the video. I'm practicing it every day. I've just started playing at 70 years old. I like the electric guitar but I don't like using a pick. How can I get my fingers faster. Thanks. Greg.
Hey Greg, thanks for your feedback and good on you for getting into guitar! If you want to use your fingers instead of a pick you should work on using each finger in isolation on the open strings until you can co-ordinate them quite easily, then we can try and sync up the fingers with your fretting hand. I will address this in a video for you soon :)
Cool. Thank you. I know these as Sergio Assad's finger independance excercises. Perhaps check out his brother's ....Odair Assad's " favourite " excercise. It's wicked.
@@michaelgumleyguitar ruclips.net/video/UfrYKlX6Nkw/видео.html This one is a bit harder than yours, and is the logical continuation to the ones in your vid, but will take your left hand technique to another level. Cheers.
Hey Michael first let me say thanks for subscribing to my channel (I just subbed you also) but also this is a cool drill while watching it (because I'm a little crazy) I came up with a level 3 harder version, you can try do the same drill but try to have your fingers that are not moving instead of anchoring them to the frets try to have them hover over the same frets without touching the strings and then do the drill (going to probably have to do it real slow and less reps and try to consciously not move the fingers it's definitely hard)
@@michaelgumleyguitar thanks if you want something harder but not quite as hard lightly touch the strings without pressing down not as hard as not touching at all but still harder than anchoring
Great Video! 25 reps is a lot for these bones! 😂...and I'm on tiny Ukulele. Finger #3 is my handicap. Must need a ring 💍. 😂 I'm starting to play more lead. I'm excited for the benefits of these exercises! You can't get there without putting in the work. Thanks for sharing this information. I appreciate the time it takes to make a video. I truly appreciate the length of your video. You reached my Max attention span. Keep up the good work! Cheers!.....🦋
The difficulty is always a good indicator that you're in the challenge zone! If you need accountability stay tuned as I'll be putting together a group you can join :)
Wow! I've been playing guitar for 20 years with a couple of breaks here and there. This exercise is new to me and it is easily one of the best in terms of fast results. I'm sure it's subjective but this is great! I can't wait to see how much better I can play after a month or two of doing it! Thanks a lot! You have definitely earned a subscriber and thumbs up from me!
So cool! I always thought spending more and more money to buy better instruments makes me a better player. 😉Now I can take my available instrument and improve my playing by coordinating my fingers and brain 👍
you can make a case that getting a new piece of equipment motivates you to practice more so you end up getting better. I sure as hell played a few extra hours a day every time I got a new guitar. If you're buying new gear, barely practicing and just looking at it that's a different story
Excellent and surely difficult. Best thing.. short, concise video. I am 65 and have to fast track.
Thanks from Toronto...
Glad it helped!
I also appreciate your feedback about the lesson length :)

I have planned out a video for CAGED system which I'll probably do this weekend :)
An excellent tip. I learned it years ago, and still do it in my practice sessions. It works.
That's awesome!
Thank you for this video ❤may god bless you💌
You are so welcome Matu
This is the video that got me subscribed. Excellent advise for me personally.
Welcome aboard! I'm glad you liked it :) I've got another finger exercise video coming out today :)
Brilliant !
Thank You Simon!

A+ excercise!

WOW great video !!! i'll try this, it makes sense !!!

If difficulty is any indicator, I I think you're on to something and I am going to try it. Now to find someone accountable. Thank you!

Have you got a really big room or are those miniature guitars in the background?
haha, I wish they were real but no, they are miniature guitars. A gift from my girlfriend who knows I love Van Halen
like it
Thank you
Thank you for the tips. This finger independence is difficult and very challenging for me and for many others and this is a very good start. Cheers.
