    Important detail: L13 has only soldered RAM and no slot to upgrade, with what you buy it is what it dies with, while L14 has 2 RAM slots and can get up to 64GB.

    Being a current L480 user, really like the new Poly-carbonate body upgrade and Aluminium option, ABS plastic on mine has already cracked near the hinge area.
    Good to see the slimmer bezel and privacy shutter, really miss that on my L480, wish I could retrofit it somehow (till then sticking to my trusty electrical tape).
    Overall L series is the best balance between price, build and performance.

      @Jingyuanonchrismas 4 года назад +1

      you could replace the l480 display B-cover with the L490 one for the privacy shutter.. they're the same dimensions. How long after did the ABS plastic crack after you started using it?

      @kiranm25x 4 года назад

      @@Jingyuanonchrismas Thanks for the tip, I was not aware the display bezel cover from L490 is a direct fit for the L480.
      Also, the ABS plastic has cracked on the Keyboard base cover, starts just above the "ESC" key and goes till the hinge cutout on he left side of the laptop, it occurred after years of daily use

      @@Jingyuanonchrismas Yes, the hinge becomes tight over a time or usage, if you try to continue force open it all the time, it'll eventually give-in, just keep an eye when it starts to get tighter and you'll have to losen the hinge screws then to avoid the break in frame, which I did not do sadly.

    We got a shipment of L14 AMD laptops. Not bad, images well. The only stink about it is the M.2 upgradability . It uses a 2242 sized SSD. Not sure if a different main board is used for the claimed L14 with a 2280 drive or just uses a different heat pipe to accommodate the longer m.2 card. The ones we have will NOT fit a 2280 NVMe

    Very nice overview of the new models. Thanks a lot! A question on the difference between L and T series: In terms of keyboard and trackpad are there any difference between these and say the T490? And if I was to put a L14 next to an T490 both with FHD displays (standard 250 nits) are the screens equal or does the T series still have the edge?

    • @davelewis7855
      @davelewis7855  4 года назад +2

      I found the L14 keyboard and trackpad to be ThinkPad nameworthy. They were very good and key travel was excellent. Keep in mind backlit keyboard is going to be std on more T series configs and optional on fewer of the L configs. If you are only considering FHD screen w/250 nits I'd call it even between the L14 and T490. T series does have a more premium feel to the materials and it offers Thunderbolt vs. USB-C on the L. Memory is all soldered on the L series so you cannot expand later. T490 does have soldered memory but offers 1 DIMM slot for expansion. Right now there is GREAT deal on Lenovo.com for a T490 - i5/8/256/FHD/backlit - $799 !! Part number 20N2S3DQ00

    Hi Dave! Nice video! Do you think you could compare the T14 and the L14 with respect to materials used, touch feeling and display? Would help a lot in deciding whether the T14 is work the extra :-)

    • @davelewis7855
      @davelewis7855  4 года назад

      The T series definitely has a feel of higher quality than the L series the materials used have a somewhat softer feel to them and the unit itself is also thinner than the L series so those two things combined to give you a definite perception of higher quality with the T series when you just pick it up.
      With regards to displays the L series will only go up to a 1920 x 1080 (FHD) display the T series will go up to a 3840 x 2160 display. So if you’re wanting a laptop with a resolution higher than FHD you would definitely want to look at the TV series the T series also offers thunderbolt whereas the L series is limited to USBC.

You basically need to wash your hands before touching it otherwise it ends up looking 5 years old in 24hrs. Overall it felt fairly flimsy and their tdp is very limited and underpowered for such a large and thick laptop case giving good performance but it could have been better
    Also I don't care for audio on laptops but omg this must be the weakest sounding speaker I've ever heard on a laptop..unless it's whisper quiet in the room you can't hear music playing
