Seriously dude! I've been waiting for this!!!! Thanks!
Excellent review , as always Josh, and thank you for digging in to find cure to raise the brightness settings. You make all the difference in the world for your viewers by doing this, that's what makes you stand out and unique 👍👍👍👌
Man I love your honest reviews.
Ditto but i have to wonder if he's moving house to get extra storage for all the laptops has has reviewed!
Hey Josh! Sir you are probably one of the best tech reviewers i have seen in this short life of mine till now..... Keep going.... Love the way u deliver the detailed information.
This video was extremely well made. Great job!
Thank you for this review, Josh! 👍🏻I like your detailed information about using this machine and the facts i get from you to find just the right machine for me. 👌🏻
Thank you for such reviews ❤️
For those wondering. Another difference between the t14 and t14s is that the t14s only has solderd Memory while the t14 has an additoinal SoDimm slot.
wow
Amazing reviews as always.
I been waiting for this review and laptop pre lockdown! But now I want a 15 inch version!
Now that virtualisation under AMD has matured, specifically with regards to Android emulation, this is something I'm seriously considering...great review as always Josh!
I use it on android studio and works ok
Another great video and comprehensive review compared against the other popular laptops 😊😊
Great video Josh! Was waiting for this video to drop since you recommended it in your discord :)
Exactly what I needed .
Thank you for the review
Really appreciate the programming benchmarks!
Great video like always Josh!
Thank you for the review. Based on that I just ordered on t14s. Waiting to get it. Will write my impressions on it.
@Desmond Arthur They changed 3 times the delivery date of the notebook. So, I canceled the order and bought a Dell XPS 9310, which was delivered in 4 days. As for the Dell, I am pretty satisfied.
Stumble upon this while considering a laptop for on-the-go work and wow! What a load of well communicated information geared towards a diverse group of consumers! I think you may have sold me on this BEAST of a computer. Thanks!
Did you end up getting it? I'm on the look for a laptop too but hesitant on what to get. Appreciate some feedback
@@sarahhdeib1247 I actually with the T15, but it is a great laptop with tons of customization for your specific use.
That was an excellent and thoughtful review! Thanks!
Haha, JustJosh back with another banger of a review!

Great review! Subscribed!
Wow! I'm sold! I'll be buying this for work purposes, which involves heavy use of spreadsheets and multiple cloud softwares. I believe this T14S is good enough. Thank you for the detailed and honest review. Subscribed! :)
Is still running good?
great review as always
Thanks for this. I'm looking to buy one soon
would love to see 2 in one review as thats what im looking for.
Atlast! ThinkPad
woah! I like your approach, direct to the point and did not wasted my time. but I still watched the whole video. lol.
"Most programmers I know code with music anyway" That's so accurate
but they use earphones or headsets so speakers are not really required
haha programmer coding with music played through laptop speakers 🤣
@@michaelxz1305 Through laptop speakers? Who said that?
I have a friend who is a programmer that left the speakers out when reassembling his ThinkPad lol. He only ever uses headphones.
That being said, that being said 🤨
Great review!
He is so honest , humble and accurate that if youtube allow i would like his video 100 times 👍🙏❤️
Ordered this with the 400nit the day it was avaliable, after checking lenovos store multiple times a day for months.
Recived it a few weeks ago, but have not gotten to use it yet unfortunatly. Its still in its box. Camt wait to unbox it and start up.
@ Well...I only got to use it for a day before I had to send it back to lenovo for repair. Some issue with windows that I could not seem to fix myself. It was not even possible to format the computer. Windows completely froze. Now its fixed, and on its way back to me again.
But I really liked it the day I got to use it. Really wish it was a 16:10 display though. I got the UAE display, wich does have poor response times and a little ghotsing. But colors are good.
Overall performane is amazing. REally fast and snappy computer. Very light weight too.
@@myleswolfe5139 The T14s has soldered RAM only. Didnt know there was a 8Gb option. I would just get the 16 or 32gb. You cannot upgrade ram later.
If not you can get the T14 which has a ram slot.
Amazing laptop I really like it thank you for review
Hey Josh! Thanks for yet another top-notched quality review, this channel deserves a million subs!
I was working as an intern at IBM in the 90s and I was pushing a cart full of these thinkpads. One of them almost fell on the floor and I almost died.
And then ?
I just got one from my employer. I love the perf on this laptop!
Excellent Review!!
Every time I think about getting a laptop, I come to this channel. Hands down, the most straightforward, professional, and easy-to listen to videos on the subject. Hope you are doing well Josh!
Your videos are the best bar none
If only Lenovo would put a Ryzen 4000 series CPU in the X1 Carbon😍
It'll come, dont worry.
Based on my experience with the T14s it'd probably melt through your table and sink to the centre of the earth! :D
@@scollurio true 😂
and 32GB RAM
at the same time the X1 will have a worse screen
IMO 1080p is the best for 14" because it doesn't need any scaling
Another very informative review. Thank you! I just priced out the Thinkpad X13 AMD with this T14s AMD with same specs (AMD Ryzen 7 4750U, 16GB DDR4, 128GB SSD (don't upgrade to the larger hard drive from Lenovo. Buy a Samsung 512GB NVme SSD from Amazon for under $100 and swap it out), 500nits FHD IPS with Privacy Screen, WiFi 6, Backlit Keyboard, Fingerprint Reader and IR/720fps Camera. The T14s priced at $1687 and the X13 came in at $1378. The only difference between the 2 laptops is that the T14s is a touch screen and X13 is not. Oddly the X13 Intel variant does come with a touchscreen option. Too bad the X13 Yoga (same specs as X13 but with touchscreen) only comes in the Intel variant - no AMD.
Great review! I'd love to see your opinion on the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7
@Just Josh: Thanks, always, for the programmer perspective! Could you do a video on the P14s? It's hard to find regular reviews on it, let alone the thorough stress tests. I'm interested to see the Mozilla Compile times b/w it and other laptops with dedicated graphics. It'd also be nice to see it up against the Dell 9310; your review got me wondering.... lol
Nice video mate
I ordered the 14" Ideapad 5, with the 4500U cpu, based on your review(s)
it's been great, and i really like it! build is nice, keyboard is nice etc. i got the better screen option and it'll do!
anyways, keep it up! i enjoy your content
How much did you pay? Thanks
@@luisfernando55 I live in Denmark where everything is expensive. i paid 6100 or 970 dollars... :/ It's much cheaper in the US
Bought mine directly from the lenovo site. otherwise i couldn't get one with more than 8gb memory
Another great review...Intel is getting their arse handed to them. Love the competition. I think next year is going to be very exciting as I believe almost all of the major laptop vendors will offer a AMD option for their premium laptops...also is the next gen version of USB going to be available soon-ish that will offer all the speed of Thunderbolt. Also will be interesting to see what Apple can pull off with their own ARM chips in Macbooks. It's getting interesting in 2021 (hopefully without Covid19). I'm jussayin.....
THANK YOU, finally a review for the AMD version!
9:42 Would I personally buy it
LMAO, you already bought it, Josh
How about the Thinkpad X13 AMD? Waiting forward for your review on that and the comparison between the two. Thanks for awesome review anyhow!
Great video.
Great review...
Does this AMD device work with the USB-C Thinkpad dock?
1. Would have loved to see the demo of speakers and fan noise. I was curious about the high pitch noise you repeatedly mentioned.
2. I am not sure but I think you should put these laptops on max brightness while recording.
3. Overall nice review 10/11
Hey Josh, thanks for the review. The reason why you are seeing a large performance difference in your MySQL test is most likely related to the different file systems as well as the operating system kernel's handing of file operation.
Great review! How about looking at some Eluktronics laptops, such as an RP-15 or Mech-3?
The actual performance of the chip is way above basic use only. Very good device.
Hey Just I have smashed the like button haha
What it needs is a 1920x1200 display more than a higher resolution one. Thinkpads always had taller screens, actually, 4:3 would be ideal, but with so many manufacturers now using 16:10, it would be more cost effective than 16:12.
Thinkpad keyboard is the best keyboard i ever used.. every stroke feels satisfying.. other brands keyboard felt like typing on a piece of paper.. i hope the next iteration has smaller bezel, better colour accurate screen and upgradable ram.. another wishful thinking is to get mx450 gpu although the built in vega is more than enough for my casual gaming
Why is this not good for video editing? Thank you for sharing your knowledge - great videos.
I've been using the predecessor (T495s) for 9 months now and I think it's a really good laptop.
Same here. It's seems the only change is the processor and the screen (depending on what you choose). And, under normal situations, when you put the notebook in silent mode, you won't hear the fan.
Hey Josh,
I am about do buy myself a laptop for working/casual porpuses (which makes this laptop also interesting). I came across LG's "Gram 15". Since you never mentioned it, I wondered what you would think about this laptop? Is there a possibillity for a review from youre side?
Greetings from Germany.
Just want to point out, the SSD in T14s (AMD) is slowed down by Lenovo. My T14s came with 1 TB Western Digital SSD which was meant to give me 3500/3100 (read/write respectively) after reading the specification. Performing several Crystal disk mark tests, I found out that the SSD only gave around 1660/1400 (read/write respectively). 2 other people have also reported the same problem on reddit. This could be the reason why the odd results on importing SQL database.
Good video, unfortunately i bought the intel edition because I got a crazy deal on the i7.
4:38 well Intel has AVX 512 on 10thgen mobile nowadays, probably that's the reason. I didn't work with MySQL but I do recall that it can be optimized with AVX 512.
Filling out those bezels with a 3:2 screen would have been super cool! :D That said, great review!
Agreed
Or 16:10
And no camera at all, who the hell need camera on working laptop
@@popokatapetl6995 I would say pretty much every single person I know in covid times need a camera for their video calls. Do you carry around an external cam for work? :P
@@w2best no, I simply use the phone all the time ;)
Does look pretty nice
And it has trackpoint! Which is great when you're programmer, because you don't need to put your hand/fingers off the keyboard. Pity it's so rare in notebooks.
Thank you for your work! Is it powerful enough for some light video editing (ignoring the screen quality)
5th, I want to but an Asus Vivobook S15 for programming, but now hell Nah!, prefer this, but I wished it was less expensive
Great review, as usual. It's nice to hear an opinion from someone who has similar laptop usage patterns as me.
Did you test Premiere Pro with Mercury Playback Engine (GPU Accelerated) option enabled in project settings and Hardware Encoding in export settings (it works on AMD since v14.2)?
Great detailed review. Thank you!
Intel will really be hurting as they have virtually nothing better to offer now both on the desktop and notebook side!
I would like you to review some Chromebook laptops.. they are just more affordable and a lot of people use basic stuff.
I was just sent this laptop for my work.I had never heard of this brand.i just knew Dell and HP was better than this brand.Boy was I wrong. Thinkpad had me to "think again"🤭🤣🤣I love this review. Now I await to hear from IT to set up this double monitor.
I have a T14 on the way to me!!
Really like your laptop videos, exeptional and extremelly informational.
Would you also cosider reviewing the Thinkpad P14s Gen 3? it has a new screen ratio of 10:6. There are no real video overview for this laptop type available on youtube yet so you would be the first
Thank You
Really appreciate you going into detail about the screen since the 300 nit touch panel is the brightest panel available for T14 AMD options in Japan. Only Intel options get the 400 nit. By the way, how necessary is it to get extended warranty for a Thinkpad? Been going back and forth on the options. My job doesn't revolve around computers and I wouldn't carry it around. Any feedback is helpful. Thank you.
Thanks Josh. After this watching this video, I ordered the E14 Gen 2 with the 4700u, 512 GB ssd and 16 GB ram. This will be my main laptop for programming. The ram is 8gb soldiered and 8gb sodimm. I am happy to get the full DDR4 low latency RAMs and not the high latency LPDDR4 ones. I heard that there is a potential performance issue with Ryzen 4000 series processors and high latency LPDDR4 rams as present in some notebooks. It would be great if you can test this on the 4500u and 4700u with both dual channel and soldiered configs and make a video.
Heard that too, this RAM is questionable at least
Hi Josh, can you do a review for the Lenovo X13? It will be good to see its performance with this T14s
Hey, nice video! What keyboard format did you ordered? I'm from Spain and I'm interested in this ANSI US layout
I ordered me a thinkpad T14 Ryzen 7 with 16gb onboard plus a 16gb module (the education model with an upgrade to 32gb ram) because i really need the rj45 ethernet port. I expect it to have about the same power and can't wait for it to arrive, i'm so excited. (upgrading from a dell Latitude E4300 from 2010 and going to sell all my desktop computers)
Watch my video dropping tomorrow morning. You will be happy with your purchase
SUPERB FACIAL EXPRESSIONS - A TRUE GEM YOU ARE JOSH. PLEASE REVIEW E14 I WANT TO SAVE SOME MONEY I WANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH WORSE THE CASE IS. THANK YOU
Definitely on the fence with this vs something like the new lemur pro for a mobile Linux workstation.
What did you end up getting?
Great for going to conferences (whenever that happens again)
Love from India
I've been anxiously waiting for this review, thank you for making it! The bezels and audio are a bit of a downside, but the combination of the Ryzen CPU, 14" 400 nit display and the great ThinkPad keyboard make this machine perfect for coding.
Why do you describe the audio is a downside on this laptop? Speakers are very important to me as I am using screen readers all the time, could you please let me know what’s the problem in the audio of that laptop?
@@nohafouad7916 it only has downfiring speakers (as compared to front firing speakers in the T14 or newer carbon X1 models), and apparently they also aren't all that great. It may be worth to wait for the next generation of X1 carbons hopefully equipped with the new intel 11th gen processors as I find those to be a more appealing product in general, but this is for nitpicking reasons more than anything else. But if audio quality is really important to you, I'd suggest you get an X1C.
Are there any issues using 2 QHD external monitors on a non-thunderbolt laptop? If not I'm definitely throwing arch on this for my next development laptop.
@Just Josh how is the linux support? I'm specifically interested in GPU support of USBC to HDMI 2.0 on ubuntu. I heard the 4k series AMD chips require a kernel upgrade for the GPU to work but I haven't heard specifics.
Wish if it had come with Xeon so i can have fun with ECC rams...never used one so always wanted to experience one..14" screen and big battery underneath, so that you can use this muscle performance laptop anywhere and for long long durations...wish if Lenovo guys had provided an option that if someone want to go with AMD or Xeon!
this laptop is perfectly ok for some photo editing and 3d design. the vega 7 gpu of the ryzen 7 4750u is faster than some entry level dedicated gpus. far from optimal, but definitely workable.
Screen is trash.
400 nit 100% srgb screen is decent for a business laptop
About G14 Josh, it is louder only when you use graphic card in it. Agree that keyboard brightness isnt that good comparing to T14s, but for that you get better screen with higher frequency with better color accuracy, high performance CPU( which is better for future) GTX/RTX card if you want to play a little or use CAD (but some people will need to do it in headphones :D ) and better build materials ( magnesium alloy vs smudgy plastic chassis in t14) for the same price
i knew it! the first unicorn
Ryzen in a Thinkpad P1 chassis would be 🤩
Hi Josh, another great review. There are three choices of power cord: standard 45W , 65W USB-C and 65W Slim USB-C. What's your choice?
Great videos. Will you please consider reviewing Samsung Galaxy Book, the blue one. Please
Lenovo legion 5 review next please! Thank you
I love Josh reviews cos he is annoying very particular I like people who are very picky and he is very very picky I like the details of your review
I got the Yoga Slim 7 (4700U) And I think it is the better choice given the price (~1000$ for the YS7). (Assuming it is available for purchase) the keyboard is still good (not as good, but still...) As I can see the 16 threads do not do too much for the performance. The display has 100%SRGB (not touchscreen though) The speakers are also great and I guess it is a personal preference but I like the aluminium build. Also The YS7 does not have a fingerprint scanner which may be a big downside for some. + it is limited to 16GB of RAM, so if you need more T14s is better for you.
