I am loving using it and can't get over how good the 6850u and 680m are whilst never getting hot or loud! being able to play Apex on integrated gfx is something I never thought would be possible. My only gripe is the webcams mic really isn't the best quality

    Great review! Just picked up one of these at MicroCenter for 799.99 USD ( Intel 1245u, 16GB RAM Soldered on and expanded it with another 16GB total of 32GB, 512GB, and 1080p IR webcam) and I'm really enjoying the purchase. Would have preferred the AMD variant but for the price it was hard to turn down. Already have a 5950X 64GB 6900XT custom built desktop so I'll survive... for now until I can upgrade to AM5.

    We have a few intel 1165G7s in the office, and they run incredibly hot, and throttle down all the time with very poor battery life. The constant fan noise is very annoying too. We also have a few Ryzen 5800Us and they run cool, quite and have great battery life. The intel laptops may have a higher single core score on paper, but in reality they slow down as soon as you have a few apps running. I have noticed that OneDrive is really pushing the intel laptops to heat up, especially when it starts to sync.

      As an update and, I hope, helpful to others - I bought the T16 on a fantastic deal; it actually worked out cheaper than the T14! I am delighted. My requirements are that a laptop has to be as quiet as possible, have decent battery life, good keyboard and sharp (preferably high res) screen. My usage is mostly writing and research and a little photo editing on ON1. This has led me in the last few months to try out: Spectre 16 (slow and heavy, fan noise), Asus Zenbook pro flip 15 (sent back because of 2 faults), LG Gram 16 (12th gen meant fan almost always on vs 11th gen which was mostly silent) and then Macbook Pro 14 (brilliant, but just didn't run the research and writing software as well as on windows). Last despairing throw of the dice was T16 and I'm astonished by how good it is - the availability of the 86wh battery in the AMD version finally swung me towards it. For my usage, it is absolutely silent. The 2560x1600 screen is beautiful. Performance is snappy and responsive. Battery life feels like it's at Macbook Pro levels - in every day use, I just don't need to think about battery or power as it goes on and on. Right now I'm looking at 77% battery power left - 11hr 21min! The keyboard is fantastic; I know many have complained about the decreased key travel on modern Thinkpads, but I don't notice a difference. If I were to be critical, it would be that the speakers are a wee bit tinny, but perfectly adequate for video conferencing and the camera is OK, not brilliant. In summary, I am very picky about my work machine (especially regarding the issue of fan noise) and I am delighted with the T16. For me, it is as close to the perfect laptop as I've ever experienced. Hope this is helpful!

      I'd be interested in that information as well.
      This is exactly what bothers me as well when dealing with modern thin laptops. I might get a desktop to use at home, but I'll miss the portability so I'm still trying to find a laptop with reasonable fan sound. I miss my old HP 15, crappy laptop, but served well without any coil whine or fan whine.

    Great review! I'd like to ask, how can you connect 2 external monitors to this?
    What I have now for work is a Gen 2 version of this laptop. Obviously, one of the monitors would be connected via the dedicated HDMI port.
    For the other one, can I buy a USB-C hub? Don't I need the port to be Thunderbolt-compatible for that? (and since we have the AMD version, there is no Thunderbolt support). Really trying to figure this out before I go ahead and order that other monitor.

    The big advantage of the T14 above the T14S is the user replaceable keyboard. I found out that when I recently spilled some fresh water over my T490s replacing the keyboard was a complete bitch. Had to remove the motherboard and remove about 70 (!!) micro screws. Spill resistant keyboard: not really. I just ordered a T14 gen4 AMD. Nice thing is that when ordering from Lenovo without operating system you get 130 EUR discount! I use Linux, so that is a very nice bonus!

    In all fairness I think Lenovo does not get enough credit for the big jump in display quality since the first gen t14 was first introduced... gone are the old days of dim, low color accuracy displays, can now work on excell, vscode and enjoy netflix on it... all t14 from gen 1 have a beautiful 500 nits 4k display option which is worth every dime imo, rivals a Mac screen but with a massive boost on built quality and ports!

      @@MashITTech Thanks. What about T14 vs T14S? I can choose between T14 gen3 Ryzen 7 PRO 6850u with 32gb ram and 1tb ssd or T14S with i7 1260p, 16gb ram and 512gb ssd. Won't the Intel version be more premium with bigger battery, better build quality, and better upgradeability?

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  12 дней назад

      it has nothing to do with the fact its intel but the T14s is slimmer, slightly more premium and has an extra 8% battery capacity over the standard T14. The T14 gets an ethernet port and has an extra 5w more power than the T14s due to its larger fan. You should also be able to get the T14s in ryzen. Hope this helps,
