Xbox had alot of good games the PS2 didn't get and vise-versa, However there was alot of Shovel ware on the PS2. I like the Hard drive and being able to rip your own music. I love not having to worry about a memory Card too. 6th generation you could make an argument for each system but for me Xbox is the best out of this Gen.

Ps2 was better. More games plus easily modded playing at 1080i. Ps2 1080i plus bigger game selection. Modded Xbox can do a lot but the quality of the Ps2 wins. Have fun with those trashy xbox dvd drives and bad clock caps.

The Xbox has almost 3 times the power of the PS2. Also it has Conker: Live and Reloaded and JSRF and Panzer Dragoon Orta and Outrun 2 (I think it was re-released for ps2 as well as 2006: C2C though).

    • @Willom

Conker on the Xbox looks better than a lot of 360 games. I'm not even fucking joking.

    • @Willom

I think I have a soft spot for the Xbox. It was one of the first consoles I ever played on. My dad came home one day from work with a weird silver box and some green CD cased and a bunch of wires and 3 controllers. "I got this for 20 quid." I spent hours mastering it. Timesplitters Future Perfect, Outrun 2 (poor little me, I couldn't drift on it until a few years later!), Panzer Dragoon Orta and many others. I still play it all the time.
Also. Reliability. That's something that comes to mind. Never had a problem with my Xbox. Not one. It's a tank of a console. Big Bertha. It reads games that have been pulverised. PS2. I never owned one. My friend had 3. 2 broke and his current one struggles with scratched games. Xbox 9999, PS2 1 or 2.

Don't forget that the OG Xbox can be modded (it's basically the PSP of consoles IMO), so you can technically emulate a lot of classics on your Xbox including PS1 games.

20 gigabytes is pretty tiny nowadays, especially if you compare it to what SD/micro SD cards can hold up nowadays, and that's not including external hard drives. Whereas the original Xbox you can install a larger drive, but it isn't going to be super simple.

    • @Lukeno52
      @Lukeno52 8 лет назад +2

20 GB? Try 8GB. Although if you're emulating 16-bit era games, that's going to be more than big enough.

    • @winlover37
      @winlover37 8 лет назад +1

That's true, but that was from a time where the HDD was only used for 3-4 MB game saves and the occasional CD you'd burn onto it. 20 GB is a lot for that.

I used to have that special edition translucent green Halo Edition Xbox back in 2004. The Xbox was a really nice system. I liked how I could use custom soundtracks on some games. I spent a lot of time copying CDs to the hard disk drive and naming everything myself (there were no Gracenotes for the original Xbox). Also some games could output at 720p display resolution although I'm sure very few people used that since HDTVs were so goddamn expensive back then. Project Gotham Racing 2 and ESPN NFL 2K5 were some great titles I remember playing along with Red Dead Revolver and the Halo titles.

I found it interesting you say PS2 collecting is cheaper right now, I'd almost say the opposite. PS2's sell well where I live and are the same price at retro game stores as Xbox's. There are a lot more expensive games on PS2 than on Xbox, and a lot of games that are on both systems cost more on Ps2 (even when the xbox version is superior). Around 90% of games that are on both systems look and run better on xbox. Why would you ever get an xbox or Ps2 shipped? They are very common, just go to thrift shops or retro game stores; even stores will be cheaper than online with shipping.

These tasks was done by vertex shader on xbox gpu, which is much more powerful than ps2 in terms of geometry processing. ps2: 1 vertex shader (VU1 ,4way simd )@ 300 MHz, xbox: 2 vertex shader (in gpu , each 4way simd) @233mhz.

PS2 is my favourite system, just due to the sheer amount of games and how developers managed to work out technical marvels on the system's limitations, like Shadow of the Colossus and BLACK, which looks like an early 360 or ps3 game, hell there's even AA, which the PS2 does not have on hardware. However, the Xbox is a great system, and it's super underrated. Titles like Steel Battalion really experimented, and you just can't beat Halo: CE as a great killer app. Also it's got Metal Wolf Chaos, which is the most AMERICAN game ever made, and that puts it up there near the PS2.

The 6th generation of gaming was defiantly the best by far. The PS2, GameCube, Original Xbox, & Dreamcast. So many fun, innovative, creativity, & classic games were published year, after year, after year. I miss that era (2000-2006). Though I have to admit even though i like the PS2, the lens are VERY SENSITIVE causing not to read games correctly, and the rubber on the Dual-Shock 2 analog controller wears out REALLY REALLY FAST which was annoying. The PS2 wins simply do to it's library of games but each consoles of the 6th gen are great regardless. They all had UNIQUE/EXCLUSIVE games on each. Can't go wrong with neither.

Nowadays I prefer the original Xbox as well its cheaper to get games for it as most of the time I can find complete in box games for like 2 dollars on average, and they do usually output in 480p. own both console from back in the day and both currently, 3rd party games always felt more polished on xbox. i mainly used my ps2 for resident evil games, final fantasy games, final fantasy 11 online mmorpg. xbox games are actually very cheap to buy. most games can run like 5-10 bucks and alot of the higher end are like 15-30

You're right man about the awesomeness era of the Ps2/Xbox. I had a Ps2 when i was a kid, and just recently started to collect for it, i already got 43 Ps2 games! Im lucky i can buy them cheap, but as i see, i have to react fast. I also want to buy a Xbox shortly, i also find it a nice console. I mean, i always thought it was an odd console, i mean Microsoft making a gameconsole? Come on, but still want it, it's funny to me. Oh and don't forget the Gamecube!

People talk about the PS2 having disc read issues, and early units scratching the disc, but the Xbox had some PSU issues with some of the early units. Me and my brother got an Xbox about 6 months after launch, and had the PSU fry our console about a week after getting it during a play session of Project Gotham Racing, so we took it back to Walmart, got all our money back, and about a month after that got a used GameCube from EB Games, and it's still in my collection to this day(I always played it more then he did, so when he moved a few years back he said take it), and it's working with zero issues beyond a cheap Game Stop controller being worn out, and one cheap Chinese no name memory card failing on us, so yeah people give the GameCube shit, but those little cubes are built like tanks.

Both systems were great. The PS2 was backwards compatible and the XBOX was a beast specs wise. PS2 had the better game library while some XBOX games went as high as 720p and have aged better. Overall I feel like the 6th gen was the last great generation. All games came on a disc and you got the full game with a manual. You had to actually unlock characters and extras, not pay for them. PS2 games are starting to go up though as some people consider the PS2 retro so buy them now while they are reasonable.

It's also important to note that as durable as Xbox systems are on the outside, they aren't as good on the inside. DVD-drive Xboxs commonly have issues nowadays (especially Thomson drives like mine), and the clock capacitor will leak onto the motherboard eventually if it already hasn't, requiring it to be manually removed at some point. Just something to remember for anyone collecting. Most can be easily modded too, and have bigger HDDs installed to run game backups if there are disc-drive problems.

I have the version 1.6,it had a different clock capacitor since Microsoft seen this was a issue. They changed them either in 04 or 05. Mine is a 05 model.

    Well...
Ok, the PS2 has a massive, MASSIVE games library (excluding its backwards compatibility of course). And the original XBOX was a very good console as well, with superb games (it also had very good controllers just as much as the PS2's dual shock was, only different by design but still very comfortable in my opinion).
It's probably a tie in terms of fun games to play on both systems really. I'd say that they're equals (but yes, the PS2 wins when it comes to the sheer number of games available for it, it's just insane).

I had a PS2 in high school and college, but I had friends and roommates that had the Xbox, so I played both plenty back in the day. If I could only keep 1, it would be my PS2. However, I see no reason not to collect for each since both consoles and libraries are pretty cheap to have. Especially since the 360 is BC for most games (though not all run well), and the early PS3's are BC as well.

I still have original working PS2 and Xbox (as well as Dreamcast and GameCube)... I seem to be lucky in that aspect.. the PS2 won the software war and the Xbox won the hardware war. In my mind the Xbox heralded a turning point were PC games became consolised. There was simply nothing like Morrowind on any other console and so began the convergence of console and PC.. hence why the Xbox was named. For sheer variety of software however, the PS2 was unrivalled!! Both consoles any serious collector should own.

While i still love the PS2 and have fond memories of it, i think the XBOX was the better console with it's simple more-thoughtful and forward-pushing design. Everybody says it was a 6th-gen console war, when in reality it was more a fight between an end-90's and a early-2000 machine. It's interesting.
The PS2 was designed to display games in lower resolutions than the Dreamcast, in which developers could make use of hardware anti-alaising ... except AA was broken. Remember the first batch of PS2 games? (Ridge Racer V, i'm looking at you)
But even then, most games just displayed in 4:3 480i, when in reality it could do much much more.
My theory is that Sony saw a threat in twhat the Dreamcast and DirectX could do at the time, so they felt under pressure and rushed the fucking design and looked at what was possible. It's specs were good when it was released, but i think, they forgot what made the first PS so successful in the first place - it's simple hardware design.
Shame that we might never see the PS2 real power (same with DC and Saturn), since most games used like ~50% of it's power at best.
Microsoft on the other hand used what was mostly tech-industry approved for their console, so the results were as expected - with some suprises. But it's library still got no real JRPG. :D

Yah I was thinking about a retro-ing a PS2, I have the OG Xbox with like 80s games already and I have to say I really Love the 6th generation and he is right PS2 is cheap to collect for. Alot of the games that are shared a more expensive on the Xbox more often than not. But its not the case for all of them. PS2 has some expensive games too. But I agree overall it is cheaper and easier to collect for.

PS2 by a long shot on this one, although I do love games like Panzer Dragoon Orta, Jet Set Radio Future, Forza and Outrun 2 (was that one on ps2?), the PS2 has a much larger and more diverse library. Shadow of the Collosus, Gran Turismo 4, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, Dragon Quest VIII, Silent Hill 2 and 3, Ico, Okami, etc. There were just too many fantastic games to name, there was seriously something for everyone, and that was the beauty of it, every genre was represented well, adventure games, platformers, fighters, puzzlers, racing, RPG's, and even the weird stuff you can't even classify like Katamari Damacy. Not to say that the Xbox was a bad system, not at all, multiplat games really shined on the Xbox, I owned both back in the day and really made sure to buy the Xbox version of multiplat games because they generally had better visuals and frame rates, and as a Sega fanboy it was the next logical step since I didn't want to support Sony for killing the beloved Dreamcast, but eventually I had to get my hands on Silent Hill 2 and Virtua Fighter 4.

Oh yes, it's amazing. I had it on the GameCube as a kid, I now own the dreamcast version which I actually consider to be the best, since the Dreamcast had the best arcade stick, and if I'm not mistaken Capcom Vs SNK 2 was built for the Naomi arcade hardware which was essentially an arcade version of the dreamcast hardware, several other Capcom fighters of the era used it.

The xbox vs ps2 is combined the same story like the sega master system vs nintendo nes, in that more powerfull systems don't automatically means that it is better, because it's finaly all about games, games games.
The wii u is an exception,it's the least powerfull system but sells as little because of having not enough games for it.

I like them both. If both systems had a certain game available, I'd prefer the Xbox version in most cases (and in some cases the PS2 version is horrible, like Max Payne 1, while the Xbox version runs a lot better). I also just throwing in a game and saving, and not having to worry about or remember on which of my 10 memory cards a particular save is. But the PS2 has a lot of great exclusives (a lot more, IMO) and way more of the types of games that I really like (JRPGs and other weird Japanese games like Katamari). PS2 (both the phat and the slim) are also way smaller than the Xbox if that's a concern for your setup. If I had to choose one over the other I'd have to go with the PS2 (since if I really wanted to play Max Payne 1 again I could play it on PC instead).
