Lyrics:
on the street i’m a kingsize killer
I can make your kingdom come
on my feet I’m an earthquake shaking
so open up my little onehey what are you looking at
who the hell do you think I am
what are you looking at
like you never seen a broken manlover nail yourself right to me
if you go I won’t be well
I can hold my arms right open
but I need you to drive the nail
hey what are you looking at
who the hell do you think I am
what are you looking at
like you never seen a broken manHow do you see me now?
You built my tower to tear it down.
And how could you see me now?
If I stopped cracking up myself
If I stopped cracking up

Go Annie! We’re so lucky to witness her artistic journey and growth in real time
Evil e.
St. Vincent in her Nine Inch Nails era is exactly what the world needed
Omg and I SEE you
Preach
Came here to say this
Definitely started with sad but true industrial cover
@jdg5209 Agreed, that was fresh. NIN & Bowie combined
Just a reminder that this lady can play guitar for Sufjan Stevens, co-write Cruel Summer with Taylor Swift and can also rock out harder than damn near everyone else. Annie is a true genius.
Edit: Yes, I'm aware that she's also worked with Swans, The Polyphonic Spree, David Byrne and Sleater-Kinney. I just wanted to keep the comment brief lol
Collaborate with David Byrne, the Swans! Insane versatility
Wasn't she also providing guitar for Polyphonic Spree for a while? And she produced the latest Sleater-Kinney album a couple years ago.
All the above is true, I was too lazy to type all of that other stuff out haha
@@NeonRadarMusic fair enough heheh, will have to check out the polyphonic spree one
We don't care about Taylor swift, the rest cool
This is a magical blend of PJ Harvey, NIN, and so much more. But most of all, it’s so uniquely Annie at the same time. Amazing.
There's some QOTSA mixed heavy in there too.
@@pitpride1220not just Queens...very Desert Sessions ;)
@@yourmomstube202 Yes, fair point!
A lot of people saying NIN but, yeah, reminds me of PJ Harvey a lot too. Really looking forward to the new album.
yeah she definetely must be a fan of PJ Harvey. and I love them both! music4soul and everything else!!
It's the sound I’ve been begging for for over a decade. Worth the wait.
💯💯💯
since NIN's Only?
yeah her edge is back I love it!
LMAO! I thought she'd work with pop producer Antonoff again but when the news said she self-produced this new album, I think I'll check it when it's out 😂
Influencer collection, yes?
What I love most about St. Vincent is the fact that EVERY music video makes you feel uneasy or uncomfortable in some way (cruel, cheerleader, slow disco, birth in reverse, and so forth). I hope Annie never lose this iconic visual identity.
fast slow disco making you uncomfortable omg the homophobia is off the CHARTS
YES EXACTLY
@@bumtarara7894 OMG you're so boring
@@bumtarara7894 right? There is nothing uncomfortable about that video, unless a leather bar makes you uncomfortable.
I don't know that its homophobia so much as not being exposed to the leather community and/or fetish images
I love how she uses the guitar - like a machine. No out-of-the-box riffs or leads, just bizarre chords coming at you like a freaking wrecking ball!
This is so true. So fascinating and inventive.
Do you know what a riff even is lol
😂@@tinkdnuos
Los Ageless anyone?
I love she produced this album herself. She is phenomenal.
Mad fucking respect. SUPER excited she's producing the whole record herself. I like jack antonoff's work but he could not make a song sound like this. Just amazing
The song, along with the video is impressive.
oh, is that why it's so dang quiet? the LUFS level is definitely off. Love the track, but I had to turn my 100 watt stereo and subwoofer all the way up. Normally I have both at 2, instead of ten. It's definitely my favorite thing I've heard of hers in years, I love her older stuff like 'Cruel', etc, She should definitely stick with self producing, but find someone else to master it... I produce music, and I also struggle with mastering, and often see a large waveform filling the display, and it's still quieter than other pop tunes. If I turn it up, it clips and distorts. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, and I've watched countless videos. I suspect she's going through the same thing. The ad came on and I had to turn my stereo back down!!
yeah i respect jack antinoff but his production on her last two albums felt very bland. whereas this sounds great
@@jimmythebold589this video is just quiet for some reason, the song is at a normal volume on streaming
This video... the build up of the song... that freaking NIN element that kicks in- I'm like unwell and in awe 🔥
Reminds me of The Hand That Feeds from With Teeth
@@aHumanByMistake Reminds me of Broken Man...
So hype for a heavier st Vincent album! I still think about Grot often
This exactly
Giving a minute of silence for GROT.
Yeah, "Daddy's Home" was a fun little retro-pop pastiche, but stuff like this is what I love her for the most.
YES!!!
St NINcent is now a thing, and I am here for it
or ya know, it's PJ Harvey from like 20 years ago
@@bengtalexsander5123Go listen to that cr@p?
@@bengtalexsander5123 You think PJ Harvey invented that sound? HAHAHAHAHA
@@madhatter8508did i say that? I think st Vincent's reference pool is shallow enough that you can trace this pretty directly to To Bring You My Love, just like how Daddy's Home is a pale copy of Beck's Midnight Vultures
@@squareversesine Yes, you did
St Vincent has a way of wearing her inspiration on her sleeve while still making the sounds her own
Good thing she didn’t let her sleeve keep burning, just hope she keeps turning the tunes out 😎😎😎
Needed a new St. Vincent era so much
I’ll be here waiting for her pop era to re spring :)
Without cringey personas, please.
@@heat_wave5774her pop eras were boring and forced
@@kindgottDaddy was so cool, wdym?
@@petratetris5944I loved the stuff she did with pop, definitely glad to see her exploring a heavier sound like this though.
Love the Cheerleader visual flashback vibes in the beginning :)
My thoughts exactly!
Yesss
miss cheerleader so much
And the moment of a collage of her signature dance moves
All the little dance moves referring to her previous albums! Gosh what a genius!
I noticed that too, got super excited when I saw some from her Rattlesnake performances 😄
loved her in her gangam style era, so glad shes still killing it bestie angel 1:38
Closest current artist to 'a Bowie', who can play with persona and narrative while remaining her own authentic self. Any comparison with another artist is now obsolete. We should cherish Annie for as long as we can. Brilliant.
Wow, that is what I always thought!
well said
Prince......that is all
@@dizzygee87 You know Prince is dead right? They said "closest current artist." But yes, Prince was great at it too.
Authenticity has no place in pop culture
Distorsion-heavy St. Vincent oh how we missed you!!
St Vincent coming to save music in 2024 was not in my bingo card
Too me
It was definitely on mine.
Music doesn't need saving. We're in literally the most prolific and varied music generation to ever exist.
While I agree with it not needing saving, I will also say this generation being varied and prolific does not automatically equate to quality. @@MBfromNL
Finally, Hard Rock Annie is here. Been waiting for this Era! 🙌
Is it me or is this like a sequel to Digital Witness and Self Titled sound? LOVE
Can't wait for the full album... Welcome back Annie, you were missed. Come back to Italy please 🟩⬜🟥
Looks like that era, but heavier!
Deadlift workout music right here 💖 *a u t h e n t I c v i e w s* 💖 dun took St. Vincent oFf 2 da big leagues and for dat I will always be super grate
EVERYBODY STAY CALM STAY FUCKING CALM
I CAN'T AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
YOU STAY CALM!
Cant believe st vincent actually set herself on fire for this video !!
For us
And stood in a big endlessly black room with a spotlight in the middle. It's crazy that all this was captured in camera

And brother, its a joke@@Outplayedqt
I miss early PJ H , so thank you St Vincent!
This sounds nothing like early Polly

Agreed. Are you over 40 also? 🤔😅 🤘🏼e@@marknewbold2583
She surpassed even my wildest expectations. This is absolutely insane. ❤
i have never heard of this artist, this song just showed up on my recommended… THIS IS FIREEEE!!!
omg you should get into her music !!
Literally
She's so cool my personal recomendatiom is
"The melting of the sun"
man dig into her discography. I think you'll feel both uncomfortable and drawn to her music. It is worth it, trust me.
Oh, you're going to have such a ride. Enjoy
DAVE F’N GROHL on the drums 🤘🏼
St Vincent and PJ Harvey are my 2 favourite female artists. They are genius
I was just about to comment that I'm getting PJ Harvey vibes from this. PJ is the best!
This woman is one of the most talented people in the world
All I've waited for!!
Annie back to her experimental rock roots.
Why is the volume on this so damn low?
Wait for it. It's a crescendo of volume ON PURPOSE.
Super low
Get better ears
You never know what you’re going to get with each new phase and yet STV never, ever disappoints
weirdly, it feels like rage against the machine, sleater-kinney, and lcd soundsystem all at once. 😄
YES KINGG
I got PJ Harvey personally, but I don't usually like to toss out comparisons.
you’re so hot when you talk about music
you’re so REAL
Comment king is back 👑
I like industrial sounding St Vincent very much. I think this album will make me rather tingly.
one of the absolute musical greats of our time has delivered a brilliant new song!!! an INSTANT discography highlight, as it were. welcome back, legendary queen, thank you for this powerful anthem 🥹🎸
Wow that is the catharsis you didn't know you were craving. Outstanding.
this girl is on fire 😎🔥
She just Robyn-ed the heck out of this music video. What a one-woman show.
Robyn with Royksopp
I am very impressed by this young lady. She deserves to be along side some of the guitar greats and has
a great look too!
young?
@@henriquesouza3444 I sure as hell wouldn't call her old based on what I'm seeing here.
Music is life , i swear
Music is actually music, not life.
@@Artofficial1986
Really ? Wow, didnt know that
Incredible. Amazing.
What you looking at?
Like you never seen a broken man?
/RIP every other artist
She is BOWIE! Hail the Queen!
Not got 1/10th the talent of Bowie I'm afraid
She's certainly the closest thing we have to Bowie in a living artist in 2024.
This song in particular also reminded me a little of Prince's post-Revolution, pre-NPG stuff, when he was just in the studio with mostly drum machines and a guitar.
Well no like you know
@@twincitiestarayou must be very young to be thinking so.... She's very good though and talented but I would never think of comparing her with Bowie
She is RANDY NEWMAN! Hail the Queen!
Amaaaazing. I’ve been listening to a lot of St Vincent’s older music lately and now knowing more new music is coming makes me so happy! I’ll be listening to this on repeat and preordering for sure.
She is being at her thrashiest! Just what the doctor ordered for this time on earth! So good Annie. SO GOOD!
fight fire with fire
Annie never disappoints. This is Frikkin amazing
Excellent album, thank God St. Vincent is back to her older-school self.
? Her 2021 album was amazing
She brushed the dust off those guitars and brought them for this song. So excited for the album!
The guitars from her last tour? Where are YOUR albums, know it all? Are you REALLY a fan if you are a "conditional Karen" fan? Please show the world what a failure you are... Now go get your Welfare check.
I got chills from that vocal performance 😵💫
St. Vincent’s production game is the heir-apparent to Peter Gabriel. 🔨
yep, guys, get ready for the album of the year. this song is literally lit 💕
What a gift to see this pop up. Love Annie Clark. Been listening to St. Vincent since the beginning.
Heard this on the radio In Philly ❤
Always manages to reinvent herself and remain authentic. What a musician.
Annie Annie Annie. This lady can’t be kept in a conventional box by anyone or any space in time🔥
Such amazing song i love st Vincent music her and nine inch nails should do a album together
She's a powerhouse...blown away as always ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Goodbye Jack THANK GOD
FOR REAL. I loved daddy’s home as an album. Not as a st Vincent album.
Had no idea that was the issue until now but her last two albums just seemed kind of off and now i know why
I've never really been a fan of St. Vincent but this song is fantastic. I'll be checking out the new album for sure.
INCREDIBLE. She never lets us down
1:17 Absolutely love this part where the guitar riff rips through the atmosphere like a chainsaw.
YASSS 🤘🏼🤘🏼🔥🔥 My favorite part 😁👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
RIP Aaron Bushnell
I couldn’t help but think of a that as well…. Rest In Power A. B.
I always wanted a St Vincent record produced by Trent Reznor.. A record sounding like this. ❤
Do you work for Fox News, and that's why you lie?
Saw her at the RAH last night, seen her twice before and I’m totally obsessed in love with her. Think she’s a brilliant artist and guitarist.
Wow. I just keep watching this and thinking how much I’m going to love this album.
It's like synth pop meets grunge. Here for it!
There is so much going on in this whole album its insane. 90's Me and 2024 Me are straight cheesin' right now. This is the stuff.
Got into a conversation with a friend and decided that if anyone was going to take up the mantle of Bowie in terms of evolution of artistic phases, ingenuity, and overall musical ability, it’s Annie fucking Clark.
Yeah. No shit
I ..LIKE ..IT!!
she never disappoints.
im anticipating the new album.
It's funny how people are comparing this to Strange Mercy and the self-titled (at least on r/popheads) because to me it sounds nothing like those records, this is an entirely new era for Annie, darker and harsher and bleaker, and it's absolutely fantastic. She doesn't repeat herself, she only moves forward, and I'm very excited for this album after hearing this song.
even though it is her harshest sound since krokodil/grot, people are comparing this to strange mercy and self titled because those were her last albums to have a comparable level of distortion and heaviness. masseduction and daddy’s home are noticeably tame, even compared to actor.
Love the uncomfortable pause at the beginning... Even after the music 🎵 starts
did you notice the tear falling down her face?
Love this song! ❤️
Priceless. Physical Vincent. 2024. 🌵🌵🌵
love everything about this from start to finish
That drum and bass is very NIN like, industrial feel.
I think grohl is on drums
@@enthnd03 And who are the 2 other drummers?
@@JewishJeff839 look it up.
@@JewishJeff839 Alongside Dave Grohl are ex-NIN, Devo and The Vandals drummer Josh Freese and an established jazz session drummer Mark Guiliana, who currently performs with St. Vincent in her latest live band line-up. All three are performing in an intricate polyrhythmic build up.
Edit: I made a slight mistake, Josh Freese didn't play in this specific track but he did play on "Hell is Near" and "So Many Planets". It's Cian Riordan on the third drum.
@@GuyWhoLikesTheSnarkies1435 Wow. You read the CD...
By far the most innovative artist of the last ten years IMO 👍 cant wait for the new tour, long live Annie ❤
Now this is rock'n'roll ! Raw and powerful, I love it ❤
I answer myself to say that this song is haunting me
She’s such a brilliant songwriter, musician, and a provocative performer.
🖤🖤 Beyond ready!
So glad she went back to rock and roll!
❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Love the new artistic direction, new mood, new vibe. Reminds me a little of QOTSA or The Kills !
Yeah the kills at their start!
I call this "St. Kills-ent." I couldn't help but think of the RATM-ish lyrics "Born of a broken man / but not a broken Anne!" Also, we'll have to see if the rest of the album is the 2019 Tool x 2019 Sleater-Kinney that I predicted on Annie's twitter account.
@@eaterdrinker000 Can't get a life, without any talent?
Excellent song and lyrics.
David Byrne with a lamp becomes an expressive, living human being on fire. I may even like this more live.
This is like early PJ Harvey. I’m about it.
Are you kidding me? How insulting to PJ! This is pretentious dog crap as usual from St. Vincent. I'm sure critics will lap it up, but her music lacks soul and originality. Everything is so on the nose and referential. You can see and feel her trying so hard to be good. This is nothing like early PJ or PJ at anytime! PJ makes actual music from the soul and doesn't give a shit about what other people think. This fame seeking trickster is willing to set herself on fire to get people to pay attention. How bout just make an original, decent song....
