My second wife and I signed a lease on a house. She said she needed 30 days to "clear her head". OK. So at day 31 I was ready to move in. She said if I tried to move in, she'd take out a restraining order on me, I had to "court" her "all over again." I looked at her, w/o saying anything, and left. She invited me for dinner a week later- I took my older daughter w/me, as a witness, said as little as possible. 2 months later, I got a letter in the mail, from her lawyer- $500K, and lifetime alimony, for a divorce. I didn't feel well, pitched the letter. 2 months later, the offer was $250K, and LA. You see, most men sign the first papers they get- thinking the pain will go away. Oh no, it only starts then. A year later, their offer was $1K, no alimony. I took the bait, I should have waited. I lined out part of the divorce agreement, and signed it. And never talked to that woman again. Ever. Not even once. She died 3 years later. My sister cleaned out her apartment.

The problem is, men suffer ridicule for reporting abuse at the hands of a woman. In the USA the "Duluth" model for DV only removes the MAN from the situation even though the woman may be the aggressor. Unfortunately, men defending themselves, even with proof of the woman initiating violence, is considered using force against a "helpless" woman. False claims, when proven, should result in the person filing the false claim, facing the same legal ramifications as someone who committed the assault. But that will NEVER happen. SMDH
Thank you for sharing this. I'm so damn happy that *someone, somewhere* is helping male survivors of abuse. My father was a survivor, and nobody believed him, nobody believed ME when I said mum was the abuser. Mum got custody, and it was hell for all of us.
I worked in healthcare for nearly two decades and it was heartbreaking how many male victims of abuse I saw. Almost uniformly I was told they didn't report because even when they did they were ignored or even charged for 'false reporting/wasting police resources'. The times I tried to report under mandatory reporting, I was penalised or told to stop overstepping.
Yeah. Just really glad opinions are finally - slowly - changing.
Abuse is abuse, regardless of gender. If someone is yelling, hitting, throwing things, controlling finances, access to your home or using safety as a bargaining chip, it's abuse. If someone is trying to control your friendships and relationships outside the relationship, it's abuse. If they are trying to control your sexuality, it's abuse. If someone is demanding intimacy when you do not want to engage or using it as currency for safety and security, it's abuse.
Also, the "what could a woman really do to physically hurt a man"... As someone who's had split lips and shiners and a broken finger from MY 2 YEAR OLD NEPHEW when he was PLAYING... I'm pretty sure a grown assed woman can hurt a man. This sexist BS is not only excusing and actively supporting DV, it's ALSO sexist AGAINST women. It boggles my mind that anyone would even think that. I've seen my 5ft nothing mother throw my 6ft father across a room. Women absolutely CAN hurt men.
My hs boyfriend had a girlfriend who abused him. We are 47. Men should be able to be safe in a relationship just like women. Look at Johnny Depp. Let’s get justice for these men.
My friends father stay with his violent wife because he was afraid for his kids, until his wife came at him with a knife.
